Finished with all A’s this making period and it feels GOOD
I don’t know about anyone else, but this semester I finished with all A’s and it was so dang hard. For my school, a 93% or higher is an A, and I got a 92.65 for English which rounded up, giving me an A. I was so glad to see that as it was the first time to do that in a while. Anyone else had such close calls with their grades like I did?

@averagebean That’s true! I love Caltech and hope I can visit there before senior year (it’s 3000+ miles away from where I’m from).
I’m planning on applying to McGill in Montreal! My grandfather got his Masters there in the 50s.

@BucketsUCSC California is also the state with the highest population. That adds to it. I know a lot of fellow New Englanders are going to apply to lots of schools in the North East, including the Ivies.
@nyuhopeful44 I’m getting my rank/GPA from the Guidance department at my school tomorrow morning. They didn’t include it in our report cards.

I know I could have done better in AP Bio this semester, I just need to crack down and get my work done. I have a goal to get all A’s this quarter/semester. I REALLY need to improve my GPA and rank. I’ll post my current rank and GPA tomorrow when I get them.

@frazzledazzle Yes!! McGill is the top university in Canada despite the fact that the rankings keep going up and down here, alternating between UofT and McGill. I’m applying there as well as it’s way more convenient than a school in the US. Not to mention, it’s a whole lot cheaper as well. For the US, I would have to pay about $100K CAD as an international student (since the Canadian dollar value is so low currently) but for Canada, I only have to pay about $20K CAD including living expenses. Struggles of being an international student; the top universities in the world are so pricey and so far away.
@tonyk16 YES, I barely made the top 5% of my class due to my ever decreasing English and Social Studies mark. I dropped 23% in social but thankfully, my science and math marks kept me upright.
@averagebean The price is a lot lower even for an international student from the US. The program I want to study only costs $19k a year for tuition, compared to $40-50k a year in the US.

@frazzledazzle.Do quarter grades even affect your GPA. Or only semester grades in my school only semester grades
@BucketsUCSC ive thought about this. I honestly don’t think it’s grade inflation. The people who don’t deserve As at my school don’t usually get As (honors or higher at least). At your school, are your grades considered superb?

This semester, I got my first B+ and it stung so much, especially as I was so close to getting that A-. I am determined to do much better second semester.
@BucketsUCSC I also don’t think it is grade inflation. My high school in California is known for being very rigorous and extremely extremely competitive.
So sorry for triple posting, but is anyone doing science Olympiad? Our regionals are at the end of this month, and I am not ready for anatomy and physiology. Especially since the skeletal system is driving me crazy right now.
