High School Class of 2018

Snowday today! It’s the first one we’ve had this year!

Well I have some good news! Track has been moved up to next Thursday with the interest meeting next Wednesday.

@nyuhopeful44 And likely due to the winding down of the winter season, your last and only snow day this winter! Lol :))

@ak2018 well still better than us, grand total of 0 snow days… screw climate change. But, we did have 5 days off after a windstorm that knocked over tons of trees and power lines haha.

Lol @snowfairy137 We had a thunderstorm and tornado warning as I was walking home from my bus stop yesterday. This has been one crazy winter. Hope everything is okay in your neck of the woods.

It’s pretty mild now but boy the week and a half before thanksgiving… 70 mph winds are destructive

Yeah they are. Today was pretty windy. I remember the most wind I’ve ever experienced was during Hurricane Sandy. @snowfairy127

@ak2018 eek I’m glad I don’t live in a hurricane prone area.

It’s past 2 am and I’m doing math homework. I love high school :))

12:30 and spanish is my overlord

Well, I’m finally going to meet with my counselor to schedule my courses for next year. Here’s what I’m planning on doing:

Engineering Explorations I/Robotics
AP Psychology
AP Chemistry
U.S. and Virginia History
Functions/Trigonometry (Pre-Calculus) (Weighted)
Spanish II
English 11

I’ve decided not to take AP U.S. History or AP English Language as I wouldn’t be interested in those classes. Any comments?

^Actually, just found out I go to my counselor for course scheduling next Wednesday, but still, anyone can comment.

GUYS IM SO EXCITED. So today, during homeroom, I heard about an announcement about a Minorities in Engineering Day at Lockheed Martin, a big engineering company and my heart was began to beat out of my chest. I was like, “God has heard and answered my prayers.” So basically, Lockheed Martin offered our school 10 spots for interested students for the day, which is on April 1st. I told my first period teacher I was going to the bathroom, just so I could go to my counselor to sign up. I’ll let you guys see the letter when I get home. I’m so happy  <:-P

@awesomepolyglot @HelloThere @ak2018 @nyuhopeful44 @snowfairy137 @averagebean @BucketsUCSC @LosingCrayon
You guys starts school way too early. I don’t even get out of bed at 7!

@Hamlon 10am is early? It seems a bit late. I would rather start early and end early.

@Hamlon Lucky! I wake up at 4:35am, before my parents do. By the time I’m at my bus stop, it is dark for the most part.

Here’s the letter (Sorry, I was so tired after school that I fell asleep)

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training is pleased to invite one chaperone and ten of your 9th - 11th grade students (per each school) to our Annual Minorities in Engineering Day on Friday, April 1st, 2016.

Minorities in Engineering Day has been created for students who are freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in high school and is designed to encourage them to investigate the world of engineering and the variety of career paths it can offer them. Our team has developed a series of sessions that will challenge these students to dream and imagine. We have created a network of support and encouragement to nurture these interests and allow the students to participate in interactive sessions designed for personal and professional development.

The schedule is as follows:

7:30am - 8:15am - Registration/Breakfast
8:15am - 8:30am - Welcome Speaker
8:30am - 10:30am - Engineering Project
10:30am - 11:15am - Speed Mentoring
11:15am - 12:00pm - Lunch
12:00pm - 2:00pm - Engineering Workshops
2:00pm - 2:30pm - Closing/Evaluations

We will honor the first 100 students that sign up, so we urge you to respond promptly. Please note that for security reasons all attendees must have U.S. citizenship. If our registration capacity has not been reached by the registration deadline, we will permit schools to bring more than ten students. Additional students will be registered in the order registration forms are received as space permits.

is lockheed martin fooling you?

So that was the letter. I’m really excited for this program. Lockheed Martin, as well as Northrop Grumman, are two big engineering companies that would be my dream to work at. I can’t wait for April 1st. I’ll definitely take lots of pictures and learn many new things about Engineering.

Lol, no! @thetex My counselor found that funny too. But yeah, she verified it and everything.
