High School Class of 2018

@LeopardFire Yea I’m from CT, but since I go to a private school my spring break (currently) may be different from another schools spring break, also we don’t take any standardized tests other than the PSAT, SAT, etc.

Hey guys. So today was officially the wackiest Wednesday. So for starters, when I got on the bus this morning, I heard the ripping of fabric. I check to see where the sound had come from, only to see that the sound was of the crotch-area of my khakis ripping. Luckily, I was wearing underwear as I always do. #:-S So I thought if I cover the hole with my jacket, I’d be fine. Wrong! It felt so uncomfortable that in the middle of 1st period I had to call my dad to get me a pair of pants from home. I went to the office and told them about my ripped pants and they were only able to give me blue shorts that came above my knees and were unbearably tight, but would have to do until my dad came with a new pair. Did I mention I was wearing boots and that my legs were covered in a thin layer of ash (black people problems :)) :(( )? I looked so bad lol. I just decided to go to the bathroom, wear the short under my torn pants and put my jacket over it until my dad came. My dad finally comes by the middle of 2nd period and I quickly go change out of my pants and go back into the shorts, and ran downstairs hoping no one I knew saw me in my horrible getup. My dad had called and told me he left already and that he left the pants in the office for me. I was like  . But if you think my bad day was starting to look up, think again! I apparently left my phone in one of six of my school’s mens’ bathrooms sometime while I was changing during 2nd period :(( . Let me just tell you all that I definitely started panicking! I looked through all six bathrooms, my torn pants, and the main office, bit couldn’t find. I had to go to the security office to make sure no one stole it. They also look for lost or missing phones as well. It wasn’t until lunch, just after 3rd period, that someone had found my phone. It was, ironically, one of my good friends from middle school who had found it. I was like ^:)^ . He is in our school’s NROTC program, those who are training in high school to become part of the Navy, and to thank him, I went to his chief and praised his actions.

So yeah, that was my day! Weird, right?

@ak2018 that’s crazy! I spent my whole day outside running. It would be pretty funny if you wrote your essay to Virginia Tech about this.

So guys I’m in bit of a dilemma. We have finally started signing up for courses for next year and I am not sure what to take next year, AP Physics 1 or AP Environmental. If I don’t take Physics now, I can’t take it senior year because it will only be taught every other year, 2016-17, it will switch to AP Chem 2017-18. My Biology teacher did recommend me for AP Physics, after suggesting AP Bio of course, but I declined  Anyone have any suggestions on which one I should take?

@tonyk16 AP Physics is a very interesting course and so is AP Environmental. I’d say so Physics now and environmental senior year if you choose to.

^^^ I meant “do” not “so”

Has anyone here done the Supermatch TM application on CC? I’m 100% matched with Cornell according to that (doubt it tho it seems really sketchy) and 83% with Stanford like LMAO NO. Although, that 79% with Yale makes me feel pretty happy as that’s my legacy school

I would like to go to Stanford or Cornell though.

Or Yale.

Actually, I just want to get into university. Ivy League and top unis are overrated.

@averagebean I’m 100% matched with CalTech which hahahhahaha yeah no. 99% with Harvard, Yale, and Columbia. Supermatch ™ seems to think I’m a lot cooler than I am!!

I’m 100% matched with UChicago, which is my dream school. I think I probably have somewhat of a chance of getting in there.

good: Found that Science Olympiad is life. Applied to my dream summer program. Deepened relationships with my family and friends.
bad: my 4.0 is slayed and killed.
Ugly: procrastination and english essays.

@OneNormalKnight Maybe it’s a sign. Praying for the day we all get accepted to Ivies and top unis.

Student loans though LOL.

Problems of being an international student eh eh

@ak2018 I love track yay join the family

We never have snow days at my school considering it never snows where I live in California…

Also, were you guys able to take APs in frosh/soph years?

@Kelvin82 Do you like SciOly? I’m thinking of asking my AP Bio teacher to sponsor a team next year…
@joyce1517 My school offers Human Geo to freshmen, and World, Bio, and Physics I to sophomores.

@starbyte, I had a great Physics 1 teacher and I feel I am strong in it /also love it. So while it wasn’t a breeze but I managed to get a 5. I mostly referred to the class notes for the study.

I spent hours yesterday researching Princeton, my dream school. My anxiety over discovering just how academically rigorous and stressful Princeton is sent me into a huge crisis. “If I’m questioning going to Princeton because I don’t want to work that hard to pursue math, then DO I REALLY LIKE MATH?” “What if I really want to be an economist? Oh god, why didn’t I register for the AP Micro exam?” “What if I don’t REALLY like theories and ideas and want to be an accountant instead?!?!?!” Ok, TMI, but don’t do any research regarding your future while you’re PMSing. I didn’t fall asleep until 4AM because I was questioning my life too hard. I’m ridiculous. :))

@neptuna Haha! I literally spend the whole day thinking bout the same things lol

@neptuna Samee. The other day I spent hours late at night just researching all these colleges and their programs. I’m terrible! I think so far into the future sometimes.

Hey guys, so I have a question. I really want to start getting awards and stuff, but how do I get nominated. Can I ask for a nomination? Or do I just have to wait…?

@apple1893 - I wouldn’t explicitly ask for a nomination but I would definitely try and make myself known to the people deciding the nominations. There’s nothing wrong with being a teacher’s pet sometimes (although I would avoid kissing up to classmates). If a teacher is in charge of it, speak up in their class, come by their classroom, offer to help with things… basically you want to be the person who comes to mind when they’re deciding.

@apple1893 Try to make yourself known to your teachers, like what @OneNormalKnight said, and make an extra effort in their classes regarding assignments and work.
