I got called in for an interview at Arby’s! I’m surprised because I just applied yesterday. If I get the job, I’ll be excited about it but also pretty nervous. I can be too hard on myself sometimes, so I don’t know how I’ll deal with rude customers and the fact that I most definitely will make a lot of mistakes at first. Still, I’m happy and also somewhat proud of myself.
@EmZoWe I have the same problem (I am 15 right now). I suggest letting them know before applying (by email), that you really want to be a part of their program.
@EmZoWe I skipped 8th grade and am in the same boat as you, but I wouldn’t say it’s really affected me all that much. I think you just need to look harder. I was able to find a volunteer positions at 13, and quite a few places hire at 15. I would just go ahead and register for the internship. It couldn’t hurt. Arby’s asks for 16+ too, but they just called me in for an interview!
@neptuna
Congratulations on the interview! Hope you get chosen. ^^ Maybe I’ll start looking for jobs. (Six Flags is looking for 16+ workers, maybe I’ll ask if I can do it despite my age? I know there are some laws regarding child labor.)
I’m able to volunteer at a few places, and I suppose I can tolerate it. At my local cat and bird shelters, where I’ve been volunteering, 15 and under people can only clean the cages compared to 16 and over people who can actually socialize the animals. While I’m glad I can at least get some volunteer hours, I’m not gaining any experience, which kinda sucks.
I’ve applied for the internship along with a note about my age. Hopefully it doesn’t count against me. sigh maybe I should have stayed back a year.
@EmZoWe Thanks! I think you would have a good chance of getting a job for the summer. At 15 you can work very few hours while school is in session, and employers want people who can work decently long shifts. You get away from some of the work restrictions during the summer. It’s good that you’re looking now because there’s probably going to be a lot of competition in May.
But yeah, I get you. It does suck sometimes having skipped a grade. I probably won’t be getting my license until December, and because of that I kind of feel like I have less time to be a teenager before I go off to college. I still have to rely on my parents for a lot.
Good luck with the internship!
@ak2018 Yeah! I actually made it just so I could help out my friend in college, but I like the feeling of being adult-y so I went ahead and made a full profile. I’m definitely not starting while school’s in session, so my parents are pretty supportive. They just keep asking, “Who’s gonna take you?!” Like, chill, this is a family of five people.
Well I hope all of you guys are able to get a job soon. I actually just got accepted to volunteer at my local library this summer. I’ll be volunteering once a week, on Saturdays, starting June 18th. I’ll also be going to summer school and I’ll try to get my parents to get to go on a college tour before summer school starts.
I got scouted by Abercrombie once but it turns out I’m too young to work there.
I also got rejected by McDonald’s so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Been working in the kitchen of a restaurant since I was 14. I only work weekends but having complete control of my own money is nice. I usually pick up extra shifts in the summer.
@tcuboundbaby But it’s with the College Counselor, you could do it with like a academic counselor but I prefer to do it with the College Counselor. But I feel like it’s a waste or something.
i started working at amc theaters when i was 15 and theres alot of 14 year olds who work there too.
S.N.H.C is now. I wished didn’t procrastinate!
@apple1893 I may or may not be joining today as tomorrow is a teacher workday for me.
I also just asked my parents and it’s official. We’ll be touring either Virginia Tech and VCU, or Virginia Tech and GMU this June, I’m so excited! I might also try UVA.
I always assumed you couldn’t work until you were 16, my birthday is in May and that was when I was going to apply for jobs. I might have to start looking into working now though. :o That could be good.
@apple1983 I’m joining the SNHC tonight, today is my last day of break and I didn’t do any HW earlier in the week. RIP me. :((
@LeopardFire Your birthday is in May as well? Which day? I’ll be turning 16 on May 10th.
I’m kind of excited for the next book we’re going to be reading in English. It’s Coraline by Neil Gaiman. Yes, we’re reading the book that the movie was based off of.
@LeopardFire YAY!
Still Working :((
UPDATE: Going to bed, YOLO!
@ak2018 May 23rd for me! Coraline’s cover scares me, but it sounds like an interesting read from what I remember of the movie.
Speaking of my b-day, my friend wants me to go to an open house thing for Boston University but its on my birthday, which is also on a Monday because fate hates me. ;~; Has anyone done any research about BU? I love Boston but I don’t know much about the colleges there.
@apple1893 Lucky you. I’d YOLO to but my grades are already in the danger-zone as it is.
@LeopardFire What do you consider as danger zone?
