High School Class of 2018

@chr1717 @nyuhopeful44 @neptuna Same thing happens here with football between UVA and Virginia Tech. These football rivalries seem to always get out of hand. In fact, I’m pretty sure a couple years ago, after a football game between my school and the school 5 miles away from us, someone sprayed-canned a car that belonged to a person from the other school and it said “(Insert my school’s name here)ordie”.

@neptuna @Kelvin82 Cool! I’d love to hear about your summer adventures.

@DaEmmJay23 Oh. Lol I won’t be able to go around that time. I’ll be in summer school.

@apple1893 Lol, yes you have! :))

@neptuna Good Luck! I tried to write a journal after watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but could never stick with it. I stopped after the 3rd day. :))

@LosingCrayon Well, I’m hoping to keep this thread active over the summer. Will you be here?

@ak2018 so true. Even the ivies have it (Harvard and Yale )

Hey guys! I need your help on improving a club.

So I started Chem Olympiad at my school so that students could learn more about higher level chemistry, especially since my school doesn’t have an AP Chemistry course. It began in January of this year and ended in April (as the National ChemOly exam finished by then). I plan on doing the club again next year, but I have no idea how to make the club more engaging.

Since I started the club so late in the school year, my primary goal was to get every member ready for the examination by doing little group tutoring sessions during lunch as club meetings. For example, I discussed gases one day, then thermo another day. However, a lot of people stopped coming to the meetings, leading to cancelled sessions and all that stuff. As a result, I’m trying to come up with ideas to make the club more fun. I plan on doing kahoot, quizlet live, and jeopardy so that coming to the meetings isn’t such a chore. Unfortunately, demos will be really hard to do, as the chemistry program at my school isn’t very well funded and demos are often expensive and sometimes take long to set up and clean up. I plan on doing some celebrations, such as at the end of the year and on Mole Day.

Do you all have any suggestions for other activities/celebrations/easy demos that we could do as a club, like making art with shaving cream? I still plan on doing presentations and helping others learn chemistry, but I want to make the experience more engaging. I talked to the advisor about all of this, and they said to think of ideas over the summer, so yeah.

I absolutely love chemistry and all that stuff, but it’s sometimes disheartening to spend two hours making a presentation and not having any members attend the meeting. Plus, recruiting for the club is super difficult, as people at my school are generally more interested in biology or math than chemistry or physics.

@Muufeen Maybe you could do something with oobleck? You could make stress balls using that and balloons. There are a couple of Youtube videos that show how to do that.

@ak2018 Thanks! Lol yeah I definitely don’t write in my journal daily. I think my life would need to be more exciting for me to do that. :))

It’s finally summer, but I’m still not feeling very productive at all

@nyuhopeful44 The Things They Carried is really great, and I’ve also heard lots of good things about The Road.

My school doesn’t have NHS, which is sad.

But finals week is near!

@cxprus You’re not missing out on anything good and productive. It just gives kids an excuse to volunteer only for their personal benefit. It feels so wrong to show up somewhere once a year and never come back. My NHS chapter requires us to do events like that though. I don’t even think I’m going to put it on my college application.

@Muufeen I would say that if you want people to come, maybe try getting members who will be in Honors Chemistry next year to join. Also, I’d look at some cool labs you could do, maybe try looking on YouTube. At our school’s Chemistry club, one time we made smores. I forgot what it was meant to demonstrate.

@Hamlon Does your school have a Key Club? I think that would be more enjoyable as when they volunteer, you usually go back to the places you volunteer at.

Hey guys! Got any ideas for some ECs? I feel like mine currently are not enough especially because I am seeing so many people with out of the ordinary ECs and I can’t seem to think of any I can join that could be nearby.

@dryoxx KEY CLUB!! It’s an international community service organization that is a branch of Kiwanish. If your school doesn’t have one go to keyclub.org and start one. There’s a lot of opportunity to move up and meet new people. Message me for more info

@nyuhopeful44 Haha right now I am the vice president of my Key Club!

Honestly, the Chemistry SAT 2 test seems harder than the Chemistry Olympiad local exam. I seriously don’t understand what chemistry is now, despite doing reasonably well on Chemistry Olympiad after 3 months of studying lmaoo

Hey guys, so I had this idea of create a prospective high school class of 2017 - 2020 thread, on CC, under all of the college pages I wish to attend. I thought it would be a good idea to find out who I’m up against with. Do you guys think it’s a good idea?

@ak2018 ehhh, that sounds like a ton of excess stress. I’d say no.

@awesomepolyglot I mean, I was planning to mainly use it as a way to get to know people who will be applying to the same schools I’m applying to.

@ak2018 I’d say do it only for the class of 2022 (are class). If you think of it, the other years do not matter.

Does anyone else ever go on Google and type " lowest stats accepted at (insert college name here)"

Their other stats are usually 6’6 265 pounds
