High School Class of 2018

I finished with a cumulative GPA of 4.0 UW and 4.5833 weighed. I’m really sad though because summer school PE is going to bring down my GPA. I’m also nervous because I’m in the AP program at my school, not the IB program, so I haven’t been able to take as many weighted/advanced courses, making my GPA/“course rigor” less than IB students

I’m annoyed that honors science isn’t weighted at our school, even though honors english and stuff are.

We don’t even weight :((( my gpa rn is a 3.8 but idk what it would be weighted.
AP Chem: interesting
AP Physics 1: joke
AP Lit: both the teachers are hippies
AP Econ: bigger joke
Honors Precalc: hell
Medical Interventions: fun

I’m not very creative lmao. Today was the first day of summer. I feel it was pretty productive. I had a softball game and I read a couple chapters of Jane Erye for my AP Lit assignment. Also I started my NYU supplement cause I’m anxious to start applying to colleges even tho I have to wait over a year

I here everyone with these really high GPAs. Out of curiosity, how does your school calculate GPA? My GPA is about a 4.37, but that is really good for my school as a sophomore because each grade point is worth .05 and the maximum for a class someone can get is a 5 and that is a 100 in an AP class.

@KG5APR
My school does it like this:

         Regular, Honors, AP

93-100% A 4, 4.5, 5
90-92% A- 3.7, 4.2, 4.7
87-89% B+ 3.3, 3.8, 4.3
83-86% B 3, 3.5, 4
80-82% B- 2.7, 3.2, 3.7
77-79% C+ 2.3, 2.8, 3.3
73-76% C 2, 2.5, 3
70-72% C- 1.7, 2.2, 2.7
67-69% D+ 1.3, 1.8, 2.3
60-66% D 1, 1.5, 2
Below 60% F 0, 0, 0

@KG5APR
My school:
95-100:4
94:3.9
93:3.8
92:3.7
91:3.6
90:35
etc

@Hamlon Those were actually pretty funny! :))

@Hamlon I was technically away from my family away for one year in Africa. I was with my aunts and my two younger brothers. What I would say is keep yourself busy if you start to miss home. Focus on the good things about TASS, not the bad. And if you ever feel homesick, call home, if possible. This is meant to be an exciting 6 weeks for you and you shouldn’t feel bad that you’ll be away from your family. You earned this! I hope you have a good time. BTW, where is TASS? Are you going to be staying at a college? Will you be able to go on here while you’re at TASS?

@apple1893 Thanks! :slight_smile:

All of you seem to have complex GPA systems. :o Mine is simple:

90-100: 4
80-89: 3
70-79: 2
60-69: 1

+.5 for honors and AP classes, expect for Honors Bio, which is +.25 because of AP Bio

I guess getting an F would result in an 0? I don’t really know how that works.

@LeopardFire Wait so, if you average an exact 90, you would have a 4.0? If so I wish my school had that system.

Here’s how my school does it:

Grade | Numerical Percentage | Unweighted | Weighted (Honors) | Weighted (AP)

A+ 98–100 4.00 4.50 5.00
A 92–97 4.00 4.50 5.00
A- 90–91 3.67 4.17 4.67
B+ 88–89 3.33 3.83 4.33
B 82–87 3.00 3.50 4.00
B- 80–81 2.67 3.17 3.67
C+ 78–79 2.33 2.83 3.33
C 72–77 2.00 2.50 3.00
C- 70–71 1.67 2.17 2.67
D+ 68–69 1.33 1.83 2.33
D 62–67 1.00 1.50 2.00
D- 60–61 0.67 1.17 1.67
F 0–59 0.00 0.00 0.00

@sona7662 I would say the first one looks pretty interesting.

@wildguy57 @Hamlon I will be spending three hours a week on test prep. 1 1/2 hours for the SAT and 1 1/2 hours for the ACT each on separate days. I have also decided to do practice tests every 10 days. My first SAT Practice Test, that I’ve scheduled, will be on June 27th and then my first ACT Practice Test I’ve scheduled will be on July 7th and so on.

SAT Practice Test 2 - July 18
ACT Practice Test 2 - July 28
SAT Practice Test 3 - August 8
ACT Practice Test 3 - August 18
SAT Practice Test 4 - August 23
ACT Practice Test 4 - August 26

@KG5APR

UW GPA

4.0 - (90 - 100) - A
3.4 - (87 - 89) - B+
3.0 - (80 - 86) - B
2.4 - (77 - 79) - C+
2.0 - (70 - 76) - C
1.4 - (67 - 69) - D+
1.0 - (60 - 67) - D
0 - (0 - 59) - F

For AP and Weighted Classes - + 1.0
For Other Half-Weighted Classes - 0.5

Tomorrow, I’m going to start this summer off right, or wrong, by going to the library and starting my first SAT prep session of the summer.

@ak2018 Thanks for the encouragement. I picked University of Michigan as my first choice and luckily was assigned to it. We’re going to be in a dorm room, so I think I’ll be able to keep posting. Not as much though because they try to discourage electronics usage and I don’t blame them. Why pay for kids to watch Netflix and play Minecraft all day? :))

My school’s GPA:

90-100: 4
80-89: 3
70-79:2
60-69:1
0-59:/

Honors/AP/IB: +1

@Hamlon What’s TASS exactly?

@apple1893 Yep. However, it also means that high B’s are still only a 3, high C’s only a 2, etc. It can be a two-way street. Your scale seems really rough, though.

So AP_Trevor released the AP US Gov stats on Twitter, and nearly 50% of test takers got a 1 or 2. I don’t feel good about my odds…

I could have a 4.14 but I have a 4.0 both weighed. I was ~1.5% away from an A in Honors Chem, but I tested so poorly (even though I studied very hard) and it kinda sucks, since I do believe I understood the material. I have a friend did get an A, but she would ask me for test questions and how to do them, and I’d explain, but she does not for me.
