High School Class of 2018

@wildguy57 Don’t study the vocab lol. It’s pretty basic, and it’s vocab in context so the main strategy is to plug in each of the choices into the sentence replacing that vocab word and seeing what fits. You could even possibly say that you don’t need to know the vocab word itself, just the question’s choices

@kassh4 I think they were here once, but I haven’t heard from them since.

I just made the AP English Language and Composition 2016-2017 Thread! You may officially go on it now.

How did u get jailed tho? @kassh4

@wildguy57 I was distributing PDFs which is copyright infringement.

Off to the library to study for SAT hopefully I will be able to productively study

@ak2018 I would go to the library today, but the heat index is 100°F today and I’d have to walk 1.7 miles to get there.

@ak2018 oh man that’s far haha do you live in the country?

@fuzzypolarbears lmao it’s only 1.7 miles not 17 that’s like a 20 min walk
@ak2018 I FEEL THO. I walked to a place about a mile away from work today at lunch and it was 104 because lyft and uber were too expensive but it wasn’t that bad

@fuzzypolarbears @oPhillppos No, I actually don’t live in the country. I live in an urban neighborhood. For me, it would’ve been a 30-minute walk, because I usually have a full backpack of stuff on my back and I have to cross numerous streets. The last time I walked to the library was Tuesday and it was about 86°F and my face was sticky and full of sweat once I got there. I had to wash my face in the bathroom and I’m pretty sure I smelled kind of bad. It probably didn’t help that I had a PE class two hours before that. It’s not usually that far and it helps listen to my music. And OMG ever since The DC Metro started working on the tracks, the amount of Uber drivers in the my area has skyrocketed.

@oPhilippos @ak2018 OH MY GOSH I thought it said 17 miles and I was like man the things we do for education haha thanks for pointing that out

Oh. That has to be bad. Are you jailed permanately or for some time? @kassh4

This is why I fail at reading comprehension now that I think about it

@wildguy57 I’ll be free in 2 weeks. #FreeKassh4

I am so happy with my improvement in the English section of the ACT. First time I took it i got a 20 and I was really struggling for a while not I have got up to a 33/34.

I’m jealous of you city dwellers. Here, the only thing nearby other than a church is a convenient store 2 miles away, and even then it’s not safe to walk/bike because there are no sidewalks here. Being in online school with a loud family, I wish I could walk to the library like you guys.

I just bought my ACT prep book! I got the official one. It was a bit more expensive, but a lot of people said it was the best one to use. I’m also finally gonna start working on those OpenStax textbooks, and I actually still haven’t gotten my permit or started driving school, so you can definitely count on me being studious these next several weeks before school. I’m kinda mad at myself for procrastinating everything. Netflix pulled me in and I couldn’t leave (I’m watching Sense8 right now).

I’ve been volunteering more lately which I’m really happy about. I volunteer for 4 hours every Saturday, something I hope I can continue to do even after school starts. Next week I volunteer for their coding camp, and the week after that a math camp for girls. The camps are gonna add 40 hours or so to my log, so that’s great.

By the way, I mentioned a couple of weeks ago I was going to Rochester, NY and I’d tell you guys all about it, but I didn’t end up going unfortunately. Some things came up. :frowning: Hopefully I’ll be able to do something else before school starts. I was thinking about going to Cedar Point.

You know, with the end of high school fast approaching, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to do in the future. I’m almost certain now that I don’t want to go to an Ivy League school. I think that dream was only my inferiority complex talking, and ironically nothing would feed it more than me being surrounded by incredibly smart people for 4 years. Plus, I’m not the greatest at handling stress. I think going to an Ivy would really hurt my mental health tbh. I’m realizing now that I don’t need to go to a prestigious school to be good at what I love and be happy with myself. If you’re also considering Ivy League school, I would take a moment to reflect on why that’s actually your goal and if it’ll make you happy. I feel like a lot of people have the wrong intentions for going and don’t even realize it.

@Neptuna you’re not supposed to bike on sidewalks after the age of like 10 tho.

Ok so today in the camp I’m counsoling we had some robotics/mechanical engineer guest speakers and one of them is the one who teaches robotics at the college I’m taking classes at next year, so I talked to them to see if there was anything I could do with robotics on campus, and he invited me to sit in on the robotics class that I thought I wouldn’t be able to fit in my schedule till spring senior year!! Super excited.

@neptuna I also haven’t gotten my permit yet, but I should be getting it sometime in early August, once I finish my Health and PE 2/Driver’s Education class. I’m planning to take my permit test sometime around August 8th.

Also, is there a room in your house that no one really uses? You just might be able to convert that into a study room. I have a study room in my house and most of the time it helps. My family isn’t really loud, but sometimes I just need a quiet place to think. My ACT prep has also been going pretty well.

I also applaud you for deciding that you don’t want to go to an Ivy League school. So many people try getting into those schools only to end up distraught when they don’t. I honestly love not having a goal to go to really any Ivy League school. That’s way too much unnecessary pressure.

Random note: We have a lot of neighborhoods that have no sidewalks. I always wondered they were made that way. They’re in the neighborhoods with pretty big townhouses.

@snowfairy137 OMG! Congrats! Now we’re technically both in Robotics classes.

Question though, are you technically registered for the class or are you just sitting in on it?
