High School Class of 2018

@Marg532 I knew the exact date we were talking it. It’s been on the PSAT website for a few weeks now.

I just got back from the football game AND IT WAS AMAZING! There were reunions, large upsets, people turning up to music, and even a snake. I’ll explain later!!!

@ak2018 My school is good at soccer and baseball. The girl’s soccer team won states last year and the baseball team won states the past 3 years. Science Bowl has won states the last 2 years and math team won states last year. I don’t know about other sports. This last year my school won their 100th state championship.
That sounds great! I can’t wait to hear about it!

@LeopardFire My freshman year one of the football players committed suicide. I didn’t know him, but his friends always said that he was so happy. I’m so sorry that one of the students at your school died. It’s always so hard.

@Marg532 I’m taking it that day as well. I’m prepping on Khan Academy also! I created a study plan on Wednesday in which I practice for 45 minutes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and have 2 practice tests - on this Sunday and another the Sunday before the exam.

@frazzledazzle My practice schedule on Khan Academy is Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for a half hour, and I have 2 practice tests scheduled, one for today and one on the 8th. I would’ve scheduled them a little closer to the day of the test but I have to work around my marching band competition schedule.

AAAAHHHHH!!! I had just started my first section of Reading on my practice test and my mom insisted that I come downstairs to do some chore that could’ve been done an hour from then. I managed to finish the section on time (with 1 minute remaining), but I was kind of rushed, and I wasn’t able to double check any of my answers!!! It will be fine though. It shows my ability to perform under pressure, I guess.

My old school had its only death I can remember back in sixth grade when a kid in my grade passed after having complications from a brain tumor removal. I think a student at a nearby school got shot in the head at this festival (I didn’t go) and died a couple days later.

Just finished my practice test and I scored lower than I’d hoped, but smack in the middle of the 50th percentile of one of the colleges I’m looking at. My weak spot is math, definitely. I need to seriously practice the no calculator section (apparently I don’t know how to do a lot without a calculator…) and I just need to review math in general, as well. English could use a facelift, but I believe that some of that was being interrupted during the first part of the English portion and having to rush to get done. Sooooo lots of studying to do in my downtime!

So here’s how the football game went:

My brother and I got to the game around 6:30pm. My dad drove us over and gave us $20 to buy two $6 tickets and any food we wanted. I went inside as soon as I bought my ticket while my brother stayed outside of the gate for s bit and went to go see some of his old friends. This game was my school, OP, versus the other school, CDH (I’m just going to use initials for the school names). Once I went inside, I saw the bleachers for the CDH, which were pretty filled, and the side for my school, OP, which was pretty dead! Since OP and CDH are pretty far from each other and the game took place at CDH, I knew not as many people from OP were going to show up. Since I live closer to CDH, I got there in 10 minutes.

So once it got closer to kick-off, I started to see more people from OP start to show up. Before the game started, we stood to the national anthem. After that, I started to see some of my sophomore friends from OP just as kickoff started and went to sit with them. One of them was in my Engineering Explorations/Robotics class and we started talking while his other friends gave us some Arizona Tea to drink. As were talking, taking selfies, and just having a good time all around, it was announced that CDH had scored a touchdown. Not even a minute and a half in the game, and we were already losing! After that, I kind lost faith in my school team! :)) My friends were pretty much betting and predicting how much we were going to lose by. I said at least by 60 points. :)) One of my friends went to the CDH bleachers and we were yelling, “BOO TRAITOR” and “D+”, because she has a D+ in World History. :)) A couple of minutes into the first quarter, I saw some more of my junior friends and sat with them for a while. I was so surprised to see one of my junior friends in particular as she now goes to the new high school in our county (I went to her pool party over the summer). I asked her how the new school was and she said that it does not live up to the hype, but that there football team is a lot better than ours. I can DEFINITELY believe that! As it was nearing halftime, my junior friends and I decided to go get some food. While there, I saw some of my old friends from middle school and we talked for a bit. I got a hamburger and my friends and I decided to be traitors and sit in the CDH bleachers for a bit. We sat over there during the pretty short halftime show and half of the 3rd quarter. I actually went to go get some more, but that’s when we saw the snake. One of my friends saw a snake right under the bleachers and it legit tried to bite someone. One of my friends, stupidly :)) , tried to get it to come on his little piece of paper. After a little bit of walking here and there. I decided to be a traitor no more and go back to the OP side, which seemed a lot more LIT! But not as LIT as the CDH side, who were turning up to Future and were shouting “OP, LP”, meaning we took the L. I saw some of my friends were white indicating that it was a white-out game like I thought it would be. I stayed there and talk to some more of my junior and senior friends, as well as talking to some of my friends who graduated. I’m proud of one of them in particular as he is entering the Marines! Back to the game, we almost had one good pass in the 4th quarter, but it became a fumble.

The game ended with a score of (0-47) with us taking the L. Even though we lost, we shouted “OP” as we were leaving the stands. We raised both the OP and American flags and screamed “OP” and “'Merica” on our way out. I got invited to an after party, but had to decline because my parents said no going to parties after the game, LOL.

Guys I haven’t been on in forever! Anything important I missed? A current update on school life for me
I’m exhausted. Marching band, work, NHS, student government. I’m about to hold my funeral. And on top of that, float building for the homecoming parade starts next week and I am in charge of that since I’m VP of junior class. I also have a marching competition. Good news is in calculus, we took our limits test two weeks ago and I made the highest grade (101, she changed one question to a bonus because everyone got it wrong). Most of the class failed (it was hard). Then in AP Government about a month ago, we took our first test and I was the only one to make an A. Things are going really well. There’s just too much stuff to do with not enough time.

@ak2018 is CDH your brothers school

Homecoming dance is today!!! So excited!!! Kinda bumbed that they never play my music, but I don’t think its something normal teenagers would like (basically anything played for contemporary routines on So You Think You Can Dance).

@BucketsUCSC No, but my brother might transfer there next year. CDH is closer to, but GF, another high school is our base school (the school we live closest to). My brother was planning on transferring there in between sophomore and junior year, but says he really wants to go next year. He saw a lot of his old friends there and they all said he should come there, so now really wants to CDH. GF also had a football game last night, but they’re really bad. In order to transfer, he’d have to enter the CDH World Language Program, which means he’d have to earn a C or higher in ALL of his classes this year. This will definitely give him the motivation he needs.

Hey guys, here is how my week was!

-Ran for school president, said speech, WON ELECTION!

  • Lost soccer game 0-8, really depressed me. For those who don’t know, I want to play D3 Soccer at MIT (Dreams).
  • Toured Skidmore and Marist with school, and we stayed in a hotel, really fun!

I just got out of work and I’m soooo exhausted. But I’m excited for tomorrow, because I have a marching band competition! We actually have a good shot at getting a good score!
Also, I have to finish a packet on Chapter 3 of my APUSH textbook by Sunday night. Uuuuugggghhhhhh not my favorite thing to do :expressionless:

I’ve decided I’m going to do swim this winter  I have never done competitive swimming, but it sounds like a good thing to keep active after getting cut from the soccer team. In my old school, I could have started Varsity, but at this new 3000 person school, I got cut from all teams.

@Soccer1235 Hope you do well!

So here are my current grades:

Spanish 2 - 89% - B+ (Should be an A, but is a B+ due to teacher error! :frowning: )
I’ve already told my teacher twice that she put in one of my assignments as 0. I showed her the assignment again and she still hasn’t put it in. The assignment was to show her the way you planned to memorize vocabulary words this year. I made flashcards and showed them to her, but she didn’t put them in the gradebook. She’s one of my favorite teachers, so I’m somewhat okay with this because I know she has a lot on her mind. As long as she puts it in soon, I’ll be fine. I just don’t like seeing that B+ knowing it should be an A.

Functions/Trigonometry (Pre-Calculus) - 82% - B
It’s a really good thing that if we do well on the test, our quiz grades will be bumped up as well. I haven’t been doing well on our last two quizzes (got B’s on both) and getting a good test grade will give me an A in the class.

Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics - 92% - A
The history of engineering quiz we took on Friday changed my grade from a 90 to a 92, which kind of made up for my terrible isometric drawing on Wednesday.

AP English Language and Composition - 100% - A
We currently have one grade in here, but she gave us all 100 on the assignment.

PLTW Principles of Engineering - NO GRADE YET
Our first grade will be our design project in which we have to make levers.

U.S. and Virginia History - 100% - A
I literally should have at least a B right now. :)) I haven’t turned two of my DBQs. :))

AP Chemistry - 89% - B+
I’m just trying to not get anything lower than a B. We just did a lab that should hopefully raise my grade up.

We are done with 1/3 of the first quarter. Two-thirds to go!

@ak2018 We just got done with 1/3 of our semester too! This past week, we took 6 week benchmarks which are just a cumulative test over 1/3 of the material in classes.
My grades are
AP Calculus: 106 (lol, my teacher had to give an extra credit packet that added on ten points to the test since so many did bad. I had a 101, so that made it a 111, and she gave 5 points to people who were able to help other students too. I ended up with a 116)
APUSH: 101
AP Government: 98
Honors Spanish 3: 95
Honors Chemistry: 98

I’ve been doing research on colleges and keep coming back to Brown as my first choice. It’s flexible, diverse, liberal, small enough that I can interact with my professors, big enough that I wouldn’t feel trapped w/ the same people, and economically accommodating. I honestly think I want to apply here ED. It has all the pluses of a liberal arts school without being a liberal arts school. I’m just scared that if I visit, my love for the school will diminish because of a bad first impression.

All my classes so far haven’t had grades in yet except for two: Algebra 2 (89) and Chorus (100)
