High School Class of 2018

@ak2018 I have a spreadsheet where I organize the schools alphabetically in the subcategories reach, match, safety (also color coded) and have information for ~25 different things relating to the school and the admission. The schools within the subcategories are organized by acceptance rate.

Schools:

Reach
Caltech
Dartmouth
Harvard
Yale

Match
Boston University
McGill
Whitman

Safety
University of Arizona
University of Maine

Misc.
New England Conservatory of Music

Right now:
Early Action: Caltech (reach, dream school)
Rolling: University of Maine (safety, kinda early action)
Regular: Harvard (reach), Yale (reach), Dartmouth (reach), NEC (match-ish), BU (match), Whitman (match I guess), McGill (match, legacy, dual-citizen), University of Arizona (safety)
Harvard and Yale have Restrictive Early Action. If I can somehow apply to those schools without other Early Action schools knowing I applied early, I would do so.

I’m going to try to rank the schools 1-10 for which schools I want to go to the most. That will probably help when next year comes around.

A lot of the schools on my list I probably won’t get into. :(. That’s the bad thing about there not being many interesting schools for Astronomy/Planetary Science. : /. I’m bringing my GPA up this year by studying really hard, so hopefully my stats will be better for college admissions next year.

That post was long. Oops.

I feel so behind all you guys. I’ve been visiting schools, but I’ve barely researched any in-depth. I don’t even know what I want to major in, which makes things difficult. :c

Anyways, I’ll list what I’m feeling so far:

Reach: Mount Holyoke
Matches: UConn, Emerson
Safeties: Eastern Connecticut State University, Roger Williams

I’m not even thinking about early action. I’ve heard that you can get less financial aid by doing it, so it may not even be an option for me.

Stats:
GPA: 3.7 (weighted, unweighted not reported)
PSAT (10th Grade): 1200 (660 R/W, 540 M)
AP’s: American Gov (4), APUSH (taking now), AP Lang (taking now), Stats/Calc AB (next year, very scared), Enviro Sci (senior year), Euro (senior year), Psych (senior year), Lit (senior year) (Will I even be able to pay for all these AP exams, considering my twin also will be taking several AP’s? Who knows)

Extracurriculars:
Community Service Club - 4 years
Book Club - 3 years
Swim Team - 1 year (probably won’t mention this)
Elementary Student Mentor - 2 years
National Latin Honors Society - 3 years
National Honors Society - 2 years (praying I will be accepted :’) )
Hopefully a job, if that counts

There’s no way I’m getting leadership positions this or next year, due to my lovely social anxiety. I actually feel worse after listing this out. Hopefully I get a good SAT score to help balance out my very underwhelming extracurriculars.

Wait…how are you guys already applying to college?

@cliffnotes, we’re not. These are just plans for next year.

@Hamlon What’s Questbridge? I’ve looked it over a little bit, but not really figuring out the general idea of the program.

@averagebean Welcome back! :))

So a few days ago, someone put posters up promoting the Edge Club’s Prayer at the Pole event. The Edge Club is a club at my school that allows Christian students to meet with other Christian students. So there were a few posters that were put in the bathrooms and were placed over the hand dryers so that they were pretty much in your face. Well sure enough, knowing the people that go to my school, the posters were defaced. Someone had written the words “All Hail Satan!” on the posters in the 2nd and 3rd floor guys’ bathrooms (each floor has two bathroom for each gender). I personally wasn’t really offended by it and actually found it ironic. I’m more upset by the fact that no one has talked about and none of the administrators have done anything about it. Seeing the poster, for the most part, reminded me that our school is filled with the most intelligent people in our county as well as Satanists and potential school shooters.

@nyuhopeful44 i feel you. i don’t do as well on the math parts on either test

IB Bio HL: A
IB English HL: A- (I got an A- on this 10 point “one pager” and now my grade is an A-. But she says I can get my one point back.)
US History: A (LOL I dropped APUSH, and I have 100% in this class. I take it online, I love it.)
IB Math SL: A (Best. Class. Ever.)
Creative Writing: A

Once again, I can’t remember my seventh class. But I have an A.

My grades look like this:

AP Micro: A

I might as well do one of these too.

Freshmen Year:
AP Human Geography (A/A) (5)

AP Spanish Language and Culture (98)
AP United States History (97)
AP Art History (100)
AP Calculus BC (Self-study)

I got a 1370 on my PSAT last year, and I would like to get a ~1480 this year, although anything with a 219+ SI is fine for NM semifinalist.

Rank: 1/353

I got a 1390 on the PSAT, but i need a 1420 for national merit…any tips?

Since everyone’s posting their current grades, I might as well hop on the bandwagon.

AP Language: 84.88% (B-) (I got a 50% on a vocab quiz that my teacher made me take even though we arranged for me to take it at a later time. I made flashcards to study before taking the vocab quiz, but he made me take the quiz before I had the chance to study.)

APUSH: 91.64% (B+) (I got a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t adequately study.)

Calculus: 98.6% (A+) (We’re using the flipped classroom method and I love it! It works so well!)

Honors Chemistry: 95.26% (A) (The class is easy and I haven’t learned anything substantial yet.)

Honors French 4: 93.42% (A-) (I got a 40 on a homework because I didn’t do part of it.)

Honors Band: 100% (A+) (Basically just participation grades and a test at the end of the quarter.)

Rank: 56/256

So far school’s going well(ish). I might change to the other AP Language teacher because I can’t handle the teacher I currently have. Not blaming him or anything, but things aren’t going well. If I change AP Language classes, I would be in a different Chemistry class (not like I’m complaining). The class would be a different difficulty level, so my grade would probably change. Nothing definitive yet. Probably deciding what I’m going to do tomorrow or Friday.
Mid-quarter is Friday! I think this year’s going well! It’s going well than previous years for sure!

@cliffnotes Khan Academy. It’s very useful! There’s practice problems, videos, and practice tests!

I’m so pumped to graduate. I’m just sick of high school. IB is putting a sh!t ton of stress on me and ahhh, I have 3 tests all in one day plus quizzes and assignments due left and right.

Can’t wait for winter break so I can finally unwind and then stress over mid terms.

Also, class ranks seem really stressful. I’m so glad we don’t have them here. When I went to school in Asia, after every exam, the school will print out the rankings and post them onto the board so everyone will know how well you did and what your ranking is.

Just for fun :stuck_out_tongue:
