High School Class of 2018

@Soccer1235 omg what state are you in you have only a 217 index for your psat???

@frazzledazzle that’s a harsh grading system! 91% is a B+? Crazy!

In my school 93% is an A-. Maybe that’s normal, but in middle school 93% were As.

I hate class rank. For example, this girl is going to have a higher rank than me just because she takes easy online classes every summer. And because my freshman year was trash, I can’t be valedictorian and I’ll be lucky if I make top 5. I’m stressed.

@cliffnotes Class rankings at my high school are complete trash, too. There are people who take barely any challenging classes who will be in the higher part of the top 10, while I’m stuck at number 7. Of course, there are also people taking equally challenging or harder classes than I am in top 10 too but there are people who shouldn’t be in top ten but they are.

@Marg532 YES! My school didn’t update class ranks at the end of the year last year, so the top ten is still loaded with kids who didn’t take any advanced courses last year!
I just hate the anxious feeling I get when I know there’s no way I can beat out my classmates, and I hate seeing my friends as competitors.

@fuzzypolarbears the way the NMI works is that you multiply reading by 2, add math, and divide by two. That’s why it is so low; it doesn’t change from state to state. If I had been a junior last year, I would have qualified cause Ohio was a 217

@Soccer1235 ohhh ok thanks for letting me know. i’m kind of clueless about a lot of official test stuff so everyone please correct me if i ever say anything wrong

my grades right now are mostly A’s because we haven’t had many tests or projects but i’m pretty sure it’ll just be downhill from now lol.

btw does anyone have tips for mastering the sat/act math sections? i always get stuck on the harder problems and i don’t know how to start ;-;

@fuzzypolarbears For me, I always get stuck with the geometry questions when they make the diagrams really strange. It’s probably because we didn’t finish the textbook when I did geometry in middle school.

The only advice I have is to try working backwards from the answer choices. Cliche, I know, but still.

@cliffnotes thanks for the advice! i’ve never had a strong background in geometry (several teachers coming and going in one year) so i’ll have to study up on that too

@ak2018 It’s an alternate form of applying to college for low income and first generation kids. From what I saw this year, they give applicants a lot of extra support.

It’s like a direct pipeline for colleges to choose from because they are always looking for more economic diversity. I’ve heard people say it increases your chances for certain schools, but I think the main factor is that you’re applying early to as many as 8 schools at the same time (for free!). That’s a huge plus because you can apply “ED” to multiple schools with more freedom than the average student.

Only downside is that you have to be sure about ALL the schools on your list because there’s always the possibility that you might have to attend in the end. This is even true for the non-binding schools. If you’re not matched to any other schools during Questbridge’s regular decision, there’s nowhere else to go except state school.

@nyuhopeful44 I hate it. I wish we had the 10-point system where 91-100 is an A or something. That would be a lot better.

@Hamlon I would qualify for Questbridge as well except for the fact that I’m not in the top 5-10% of my class. :frowning:

@snowfairy137 congrats! did you use anything to prep for it?

@frazzledazzle that’s pretty much how mine is. 100% is an A+, 93-99 is an A, 90-92 is an A-, 87-89 is a B+, and so on.
I got a 7/12 for the ACT writing. Is that good?

@nyuhopeful44 That’s exactly what it is for me!
I don’t know much about the ACT, but at least you got above 50%.

Yo, yo! I’m not dead, you guys! Just really lazy and forgetful. Here’s a recap of my first (5?)6 weeks…

English III AP
Teacher is super disorganized, so it’s like a free period.

AP Physics
DIFFICULT. We’re on 2D motion problems and it takes about 4 hours to do 22 problems BUT ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, I can tell anyone the resultant velocity, theta, degree, and length of a boat floating across water and an airplane in the sky…

Rocketry and Robotics
I’ve built two A-engine rockets, launched one, and am prgramming my robot to place a ball on top a PVC tube.

Art 2
Hate. Teacher. Hate. Class. That’s it.

Algebra II PAP
So difficult. My brain feels like it’s melting. It’s a fun class, though.

Graphic Design
Very fun class! Loads of freetime and fun.

Spanish III
Fun as well; loads of Senor Wooly videos.

APUSH
SO much writing and notes, but it’s a fun class, as well.

Bonus There have been 7-9 crickets in school cos of the cooler weather.

Good News!
I’m a Secretary in NHS and in Student Council
I’m a Treasurer Class Officer
I’ve bought my class ring! Well…locket, actually.
Planning on joining Writing Club and Comic Book Club.
7 As and 1 B for math (which was an A aaalll until one test).

Bad News!
I’m sick! Runny nose and sneezing, yuck!
Lost count of how many days left…@_@
I’m going to get a baad grade for PSAT cos I haven’t studied and there’s 21 days left! The highest I’ve got is a 1140 on a real SAT, so in PSAT terms, it may be 1200/1520, I think. My goal is 1490, so eh.
