I worked a little bit on my Why NYU essay. After fooling around with intro paragraphs, I skipped it and just wrote a paragraph about why I want to attend the school. I wrote about the individualized major option and the diversity of the campus. Now I have to go to work, and when I get home around ten I get to do all of my homework! Yay!!
I actually had free time yesterday, because I was supposed to have softball practice but it got cancelled due to rain. I made popcorn and watched Full House reruns. Now I’m going to have to pay for it tonight!
Here is my hw load:
AP Chem: post lab questions
Honors Precalc: none
AP Lit: work on summer reading presentation and read the first half of Heart of Darkness
Medical Interventions: do research on bacterial meningitis
AP Physics: study for quiz tomorrow
AP Microeconomics: three different worksheets on elasticity (which is really complicated)
@CoolCakes Crickets? :o That’s cool. I’ve seen a wasp fly into my high school before, that wasn’t fun…
@nyuhopeful44 I have a crap-ton of homework myself:
Pre-Calc - study for test (that I need to get an A in because my grade is a 69 RIP me)
Financial Literacy - study for test
H Latin III - none
Intro to Marketing - none
AP Lang - find 20 new vocab words, define and use in a sentence
APUSH - none, but there is a test coming up that I should really start studying for ASAP
Chemistry - study for test, finish chapter 2 packet
@CoolCakes That’s cool that you have crickets at your school. All my school has are potheads. lol
@nyuhopeful44 Here’s my homework load:
AP Language: hook+thesis activity and to prepare for the in-class essay that we are having tomorrow
APUSH: map activity
Calculus: piecewise function worksheet
French: read ch. 3 in Bonjour Tristesse
Chemistry: no homework since we had a test today
I have the first rehearsal for youth orchestra tonight for 2-ish hours and then I eat dinner, so I’m probably going to be doing the bulk of my homework after 9:30p or 10p tonight.
I had the most amazing lucid dream last night! I woke up at 4, changed my alarm from 4:30 to 6:30, went back to sleep, and then realized I was a dream after doing a reality check! I won’t go into many details but it was awesome! I flew a ton, and I kept waking up, but then I would do a dream exit induced lucid dream, and go right back in. I must have been dreaming for an hour or so, and I unfortunately forgot some of the first parts of my dream. Hopefully I can do another tonight.
Online US History:
Grade: a hundred freaking percent
Best. Thing. Ever. Explanation: I get to use notes on every test and quiz. Including the final exam.
IB World Lit HL:
Grade: A-
I love class discussion, I love the teacher, and I even love the assignments. But I got an A- on one assignment she put in the assessment category for some reason, and my grade became an A-. We get to redo assignments in this class, though, so it’s not a problem.
AP Calculus AB:
Grade: A-
My GRADE WENT UP. I hope we have two quizzes this week so I can get my grade up to that A before midterm 1 is over.
IB Math SL:
Grade: A
This class is so easy, I love it. We just had a test today, and I flew through.
IB Spanish IV:
Grade: A
Me and the teacher are practically best friends. The class is a little hellish though because we have to memorize so many words before every quiz, but on the bright side the quizzes are literally just “translate the English into Spanish.”
IB Biology HL:
Grade: A
I don’t like the teacher that much. She’s nice, but doesn’t really explain stuff very well. Plus, we’ve been doing all kinds of stuff for weeks, but chose the ONE thing we never went over in class to have a quiz on. AND in addition, when we were labelling cell parts on the quiz, it was printed out really weird and you could hardly tell the difference between the organelles. I wanted to be challenged in Bio, but so far it’s just a slower version of freshman Biology.
Creative Writing:
Grade: A
I don’t like the teacher that much because the class is a blowoff class. He’s one of those teachers that just sends us down to the computer lab so he can grade papers while we do nothing. I hate it because I’m there to improve my creative writing skills, not for an easy elective.
I’m still barely alive, haha AP Chem is murdering me. By the end of this year, I’ll be lucky to be in one piece. We had a test today for gases and thermodynamics, and the majority of the class did not finish. Also, Science Olympiad tryouts test is tomorrow, and guess who hasn’t studied? Also, have to prep for the PSAT, and study for precalc test. Just let me get through tomorrow, please.
Algebra 2:
Grade: 89%
I would have at least a 90 if I had scored better on my functions test. But thankfully I can earn back some points with a test conference next week and probably improve my grade a bit.
Music Theory:
Grade: n/a
I don’t have any grades in the book yet, even though we had a little quiz for treble and bass note identification. I would have a 100% if that were in the gradebooks!
Music History:
Grade: n/a
No grades in yet for this class either. Should have a decent grade in this class eventually, though.
Human and Social Biology:
Grade: 100%
We grade by module portfolios, which is putting all the worksheets and packets into a portfolio folder and getting it graded as one grade rather than multiple. I got a 100 on my first module portfolio, so I have a 100% in the class!
AP Literature/Composition:
Grade: 83%
I need to do makeups for my two Harkness discussions that I scored poorly on (75% and 60%) and I will get a boost in my grade.
Gym:
Grade: n/a
No grades yet, but gym is an easy 100 once the gym teachers actually grade. They only do it based on changing into gym clothes and participation.
AP US History:
Grade: 95%
The only reason why I don’t have a 100% is because I got 4 points off of the unit test we took today. I have 100s on all my participation grades and chapter notes and packets.
Band:
Grade: 100%
The only grade in the book is participation in practice this week. Add in the 100s from my past two lessons and it should still be a 100!
Chorus:
Grade: 100%
Some grades are still not plugged in, but I should still have a 100 when they are.
Overall Grade: 94.5%
Not what I’m used to having, but still pretty good in my opinion. Need to bump it up a half point to get to high honor roll versus honor roll.
Anyone trying for AIME? I have taken two AMC 12 practice tests and have done mediocre at best around 72. I really want to get up to AIME level any tips? Free books online/websites for beginners etc.
Edit: @OMPursuit i think ive seen you around talking about AMC/AIME any tips?
@frazzledazzle Thanks! I have a lot weighing on my Pre-Calc and Chem tests, since I currently have a 69 in the former as I said, and a 90 in the latter that I would like to make a solid A. Financial Literacy should be an easy A, but I don’t want to get too cocky; that’s what landed me in the Pre-Calc situation, kinda. ^^’
I’ve finished my Chem and AP Lang homework! I’m going to study for Pre-Calc now. I think I will review for the Financial Literacy test after I take my Pre-Calc quiz (I have Pre-Calc first period, then Financial Literacy second period), and I will study for the Chem test during AP Lang, since I know I will have a substitute. We’re supposed to work on homework that’s due next Thursday, so I should be able to put it off for now.
My friend is coming over tomorrow to study for the PSAT with me. She’s better at math and I prefer the reading/writing section, so hopefully we will be able to help each other. Besides Khan Academy, are there any websites that are useful that we could use to study for the PSAT or SAT?
@snowfairy137 Good luck to you! Don’t worry practice tests are designed to be harder
I was unable to take the PSAT last year due to being sick, so I am kind of nervous
@Soccer1235 I wish I was able to lucid dream! I either don’t dream or don’t remember them. I rarely have a dream in which I remember it. Maybe once every month or so.
@cliffnotes I talked with professors at the university along with the director of the astronomy center to give me the opportunity to work with them and use the telescope for my research. I knew the assistant director since he helped me out with my project freshman year when he was a senior. Basically, it’s just networking and some luck. In my field people (that I know of) are welcoming of letting a high schooler have dark time on fancy telescope equipment. I haven’t had much luck at the Harvard telescope, though. The manager says I don’t have enough information to observe there, which makes sense. Research has its ups and downs, but it’s fun.
@averagebean but then you aren’t allowed to get a lot of freshman merit aid (I don’t know how much internationals get anyway though). And its really hard to transfer to some schools, especially ivy leagues.
I actually had an eye doctor’s appointment today, so I got to miss both my Spanish and Math classes. The appointment went pretty well. I was told the same old stuff (use ointment under your eyes before you go to bed, or your eyes will become very dry). I had watched the Home Improvement Channel on the TV in the lobby until the end of my appointment and went back to school. We read about John Smith in AP Lang and finished notes in U.S. History.
