Good morning, it’s 6 AM over here. Do you guys know what SAT Subject Tests you want to take (or if any, at all?)? My goal is to become a Linguistics major with Computer Science minor, so I wanted to do either Spanish and Japanese or Spanish and Italian tests.
@KG5APR Good luck! I don’t think I have a chance for NMSF, especially in a competitive state like Connecticut, but I see the PSAT as affordable practice for the SAT.
@CoolCakes I think I will take US History, Literature, and Latin, if my colleges require subject tests.
My Pre-Calc test went okay. The Financial Literacy test was easy, as expected. Now I have to wait for period eight to take my Chemistry test. Hopefully this weekend will be relaxing!
Do you guys get Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur off? My town does, thanks to our large Jewish population. Being a Jew myself, its really nice.
@KG5APR I am! Planning to take practice test #2 this Saturday.
@CoolCakes I’m taking Math 2, Chemistry, and U.S. History.
Air Force One is landing at my town’s airport tonight! I already decided that I’m going to miss some of pep band to watch the plane land. It’s going to be refueling before finishing its journey to DC from Tel Aviv. I’m so excited!
@KG5APR I am! :-h
I’m taking the SAT tomorrow. Wish me luck!
My Bio teacher says I won’t be ready for the SAT Bio exam or the AP Bio exam until the end of senior year (I’m in the 2 year IB Bio HL thing). Is that too late to submit my scores to colleges?
I want National Merit, but I only got a 1390 last year and my scores are getting worse.
I’m actually really excited for U.S. History on Monday. We’re going to be doing a Socratic on the justification of the Revolutionary War. The way the seminar works is that 4 people will be picked to be the main debaters, while the rest of the class will take notes on the good and valid points stated by the debaters. My teacher has appointed me to be one of his trusted debate moderators (because of the maturity of my logic and reasoning skills), but will allow me to steal the show. Since I’m on my school’s Forensics Team and I want to make myself a better debater, I will try to either argue for both sides or against the colonies. Everyone will argue either pro-colonists or pro-Britain. I’m planning on putting some stuff together for it. I’m pretty excited.
@kassh4 I’m doing the Michigan Math Prize competition, which is basically as hard as AMC 12. I’m screwed, though.
@cliffnotes I’m pretty sure that’s too late. You could try self studying the extra info for the exam if you want to.
@ak2018 I know it makes me sound lazy, but it’s a ton of info that won’t be covered. In our first year of IB Bio, we only cover the first semester of AP Bio. And that’s hardly anything from the SAT Bio content.
@CoolCakes I’m taking the Chem and Math Level 2 SAT II’s.
@cliffnotes You guys only cover the first semester of your sciences in IB?! I’m zoned for an IB school, but didn’t go, and my friends mainly talk about how hard it is. I know it’s pretty hard, though, but do you guys go slow with the material?
Anyway, if one semester of AP Bio equals one year of IB Bio HL 1, then taking IB Bio HL 1 and half a year of IB Bio HL 2 should prepare you for three-fourths of the test. It’s really up to you to determine if you want to study the other info early. I would say to go on the website and see what the test covers to give you a better idea.
@ak2018 I kind of just compared what was on our Syllabus this year to the AP Bio website. So far, the class has been really easy, so I think it’s just my school being weird. I’ll check out the website.
@Cliffnotes Good luck tomorrow! fwiw, I think a 1390 is amazing.
I just realized that I actually have no homework over the three-day weekend. :o Is this real life? Am I being pranked?
@LeopardFire Same! Homecoming weekend!!
That reminds me, our school is already voting and coming up with ideas for our school spirit days and homecoming themes. I think they’re pretty cool!
Ideas for Spirit Day:
'Merica Monday - (We all wear red, white, blue, and anything that screams AMERICA!
Character Day - (Dress up like your favorite character from any form of media.)
Decades (Throwback) Day - (Dress up from any decade you want!)
Tourist Day - (Dress Up Like a Tourist!)
Disney Day - (Wear anything Disney-themed!)
Jersey Day - (Wear your favorite team jersey!)
My Suggestion: College Gear Day - (Wear anything supporting any college!)
A lot of people wanted Multicultural Monday, but there are just way too many rednecks at my school for that to happen. Every year, someone suggests doing Multicultural Day and every year the idea is shot down and is replaced with 'Merica Monday. I remember last year when a lot of people decided not to participate in 'Merica Monday and someone tweeted “If you’re not wearing red, white, and blue tomorrow, you’re a terrorist” which really got some people mad, but got about 300 likes.
Ideas for Homecoming:
Hunger Games (I REALLY LIKE THIS IDEA)
Glow in the Dark
Emmy’s/Red Carpet
@ak2018 We had an America day on Monday and I wore all Black even though Friday had been Blackout day. Seems a lot of people had the same idea too!
End of Week Grade Update
Spanish 2 - 90% - A
Finally, I have an A in here. The grade was a B+ on the interim, but I don’t really care. Now, I just need to keep it that way for the rest of the year!
Functions/Trigonometry - 93% - A
My quiz grades being changed brought me up 2%. One of my quiz grades is actually a 100.1% because my teacher adds 0.1% if your quiz score has been improved through mastery on the test. I missed class on Thursday due to my eye doctor’s appointment, so I have to get the notes from my teacher’s classroom page and make up a quiz I missed, which I will do on Monday.
Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics - 90% - A
We’ve been doing a project all week where we must recreate 12 isometric drawings in Autodesk Inventor (CADD). We’ve gone over the additive and subtractive methods as well as how to use fillets and chamfers in our designs. We also must do multi-view sketches of all 12 of the isometric drawings. Our teacher gave us a tutorial, since most of us are new to Inventor, and I’ve kind of used that to get through the drawings. For those who want a little bit of a challenge, you can decide to not use the step-by-step drawing tutorial (cheat sheet). I’ve used the tutorial for the first 8 drawings, so I think I’m up for the challenge of not using the tutorial for the last 4 drawings. All 12 of the Inventor designs, as well as all 12 multi-view sketches, are due by the end of class on Tuesday. Considering the fact that I haven’t even started the sketches, I definitely have homework this weekend!
AP English Language and Composition - 90% - A
I literally just turned in all my missing work in today and my teacher said, “If your head wasn’t attached to your body, you’d probably lose it” which is English teacher talk for “You’re pretty unorganized!” Both of which are true, at least in this class. :))
PLTW Principles of Engineering - 100% - A
We did a quiz and lab on Wheel and Axles, that was mainly it.
U.S. and Virginia History - 99% - A
We’ve been doing notes on The American Revolution.
AP Chemistry - 85% - B
We just took a quiz today on Light Waves/Frequency and Electron Configurations that I felt I did really well on! I hope it brings my grade up! We also have to finish our lab report by Thursday.
Unweighted GPA: 3.86
Weighted GPA: 4.43 (Calculated it right this time!)
