Guys I am feeling super stressed and worried. I am not doing so well in AP Calculus AB. I understand some stuff and other stuff I don’t :(. I’m also stressing out about my extracurriculars. I’m not really doing that much apart from studying for a science olympiad, and speech and debate, though I’m trying out for science bowl. I’m just worried that my grades in math and my ec’s are not up to par for the schools I want to attend, i.e MIT.
@ak2018 , what textbook are ya’ll using for AP Chem? and how much daily studying does it require?
Current grades… ahhhh yes @thenorthstar we are crazy but for me I know I’m capable of doing well so why shouldn’t I try. A 4.0 is a realistic (not easy rn, but realistic goal for me).
Multivariable Calc: 100% somehow?? I aced the unit test and all of the quizzes
Physics: 100% but we haven’t had our first test yet so
Physics Lab: 100% easy bc I’ve pretty much already taken a harder version of this class
Chemistry: 93.5% I need a 96% or higher for a 4.0, I think I’ll get there tho.
English: 100% again, we haven’t turned anything major in, just stuff that you pretty much get points for if you complete it.
I changed my profile picture! Hard to see, but this was actually a picture I took last year for AP Photography. The prompt my teacher gave us was “reflection in an unexpected place” or something like that.
@VANURSEPRAC We are currently using the Zumdahl AP Chemistry 9th Edition textbook. Out teacher gave us a practice worksheet to practice on and a few problems from the textbook to work on. I had done really no more 40 minutes of total study time for this topic, at home, but will likely increase the study time when we do a much more complicated topics.
AP Photography??? @snowfairy137
MAJOR GRADE UPDATE!
Spanish 2 - 89% - B+
I took a quiz yesterday and got an 88%, which apparently brought my grade down. I’ve been teetering on the edge of a B+ and an A in this class for a while. I hate that I’m actually going to have to study for this class this year. Last year, in Spanish 1, I rarely had to study to get an A.
Functions/Trigonometry (Pre-Calculus) - 92% - A
Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics - 90% - A
AP English Language and Composition - 88% - B+
That timed summer essay we did a couple weeks ago in class really brought my grade down HARD! My grade dropped at least 10%. That’s got to be a new record for me, but one I’d rather not have. My grade should be pretty fine though.
PLTW Principles of Engineering - 94% - A
We took a quiz today on Wheel and Axles. When I did it the first time around, I got a 50% due to incorrect calculations, I was not within the 5% margin of error of the actual answer, and not being able to determine the mechanical advantage from a picture (whether it’s less than one, exactly one, or greater than one). When I retook it, I got a 100%. My averaged quiz grade became a 75%, but that still brought my grade down.
U.S. and Virginia History - 99% - A
AP Chemistry - 89% - B+
That quiz I just took brought me up to an 89%, meaning I’m one point away from an A. I would honestly be so surprised if I got an A for the quarter.
I know it’s really early, but I spoke to a few of the AP teachers who will be teaching the classes I plan, at this point, to take next year. Hear’s what they said:
AP Physics C: The teacher said it was perfectly fine to come into AP Physics C while concurrently taking AP Calculus AB. On the first day, we will go over all of the Calculus we’re going to need.
AP Economics: I had to either pick this class or Economics and Personal Finance, so I decided to pick this class to challenge myself. There will be a bit of reading involved, but I think I’m up for the challenge.
AP Computer Science A: I put this class as my 1st alternative elective, but I wouldn’t have been allowed in anyway. The class, at least this year, was meant to be a senior class. Therefore, seniors got priority enrollment this year. Next year, this will be a junior/senior class. Everyone in the class is doing pretty well.
@thenorthstar I get what you mean, but I actually think this thread is part of the down-to-earth side of CC. I haven’t seen too much craziness when it comes to getting an A- vs. an A.
@BucketsUCSC AP Studio Art 2D but with a focus in photography
@thenorthstar I don’t even have all As and I haven’t since second quarter of 7th grade. lol I still work hard, overanalyze and stress, and try to do my best.
Is anyone else less stressed this year even though your schedule is much more demanding? I’m completely chill lately. I watched two seasons of Shameless in three days and still got all of my work done.
@neptuna I’ve been flip flopping. Yesterday I felt good about my grades, today I’m stressed out again. I feel like there is a lot more quizzes, but other than that I pretty much feel the same as I did last year.
@neptuna Grades don’t really bother me - so long they’re 87 and up :). The only difficult classes I have are AP Physics and PAP Algebra 2. I love the subatomic part about Physics (atoms, neutrons, leptons, quarks, electron volts, Higgs Boson) but everything beyond that is pretty tough. Math in general tends to be difficult to me, and my other classes are medium difficulty at most.
@neptuna I’m really stressed rn. But it helps knowing I just have to tough this year out, then next year will be awesome, then college which will be awesomer!!! (Excuse my lack of grammar-- I got 0 sleep last night)
Did anyone else’s school close down for Hurricane Matthew? My school district isn’t going to be affected by the governor called for our school districts to be used as evacuation sites for those on the coast. So I have no school this week!!!
@Tobster18 That’s bitter sweet. Yes no school but that doesnt mean that the AP exam gets delayed. That just means that you teacher is going to have to rush.
@kassh4 That’s very true, last year our state had a flood and lost a week of school. My AP classes were so behind, especially AP BIo, which probably caused me to get a 4 on the exam instead of a 5, because we never got to the Ecology unit. I think I’m going to study ahead, in order to stay on track.
@Tobster18 I dont know if studying ahead would help unless you cover the whole curiculm. I think you would have to study what ever you have left at the end. Say you work a chapter ahead right now but then next week the whole class is gonna have learned it so that doesn’t do you any good. I dont know if im making any sense right now but I dont think it would help to study ahead just start studying a month before AP exams if you know you arent gonna get to certain units.
@kassh4 it depends. My school lost a week due to a windstorm that knocked out power everywhere last year in November (I was in hawaii but i heard it was cold and not fun lol). Our district calander has builr in snow makeup days, so all we lost were a ton of 3 day weekends DX. Also, most of my AP teachers build in some review time right before the AP test so we may have lost a day or two of that, but no content.
