Has anyone listened to Solange’s new album?! Omg, I can’t stop listening to it. The whole album’s a journey through her mind. The visuals for ‘Cranes in the Sky’ and ‘Don’t Touch my Hair’ are amazeballs! @-)
AP Chem - We get our quizzes back at the end of the quarter, which is kind of weird.
AP Lang - We get our writing samples back at the end of the semester.
@Hamlon I’ve heard about “Don’t Touch My Hair”, but I haven’t listened to it yet. I’ve literally been listening to Starboy by The Weeknd and 24 Karat Magic by Bruno Mars all weekend. I’ve also started listening to a little bit of Billy Joel. I’m actually starting to like his music. The Longest Time and Uptown Girl are my favorite from his album.
Anyways, has anyone been getting a lot e-mails and mail from colleges lately? They’ve been coming in like crazy and I’m actually pretty happy about it. So far, in the last year alone, I received:
From GMU: 11 E-Mails and 1 Piece of Mail
From UVA: 9 E-Mails and 2 Pieces of Mail
From Virginia Tech: 22 E-Mails and 2 Pieces of Mail (I wish this showed how much they wanted me!
)
From William & Mary: 5 E-Mails and 1 Piece of Mail
From JMU: 2 E-Mails and 0 Pieces of Mail
From VCU: 9 E-Mails and 2 Pieces of Mail
I received a postcard from Monmouth University in New Jersey, but I know I’m definitely not going there. You’ll never believe who I just got mail from this time. It was a postcard from Harvard College, Princeton University, UVA, Wellesley College, and Yale University about a joint program they are doing discussing all of their schools. They are coming to D.C. on November 2nd, but I’m not planning on going. Seems like a great program, though.
About to take a practice PSAT. Hope it goes well!
Since most of the schools I’m looking at are nowhere near Texas (why are there so many schools on either coast?), I’ve started watching vlogs on YouTube. They give that view of a school that you just don’t get from the official overview videos. I really like being able to get the layout/vibe of a school directly from a student’s perspective.
@Hamlon Me too! I’m in love with Weary, Cranes in the Sky (can’t explain why, but it makes me nostalgic), and Don’t Touch My Hair. I love the whole message of the album too.
Being in online school, I get everything back. I only have midterms and finals for AP Lang and AP Comp Sci, but I can exchange homework/quiz questions for those. I can also exchange homework/quiz/test questions for AP Bio and AP Stats.
@BucketsUCSC You do know that the Science on ACT doesnt really require any science. You should give a try.
@cliffnotes Why did you decide to self study APUSH? That class is brutal to self study like the prepbook do not have half the stuff and it is really hard to write a free response without feedback from the teacher.
@kassh4 I already did i took a practice SAT and got a 1440 on it same as my PSAT score and then i took a practice ACT and I got a 27 with a 32 in reading a 30 in math a 22 in science and a 25 in writing the time limit was probably a big reason for the large score difference but I also really hated the science section even though it doesn’t require science knowledge directly it does indirectly and having science knowledge is really helpful for saving time.
Is it bad to lack awards/honors? I was filling out an application for a summer program and could only come up with 2 minor honors. It was kind of embarrassing to leave all that blank space.
I’m a big believer in quality over quantity and a lot of admissions officers also stress this message @Hamlon
@Hamlon I wouldnt say so. Most my awards are from one club-Math Team. Btw which summer program are you applying to.
@BucketsUCSC Thanks for replying, but what do I do if they don’t have that much quality? It’s mostly just stuff from school-related activities.
@kassh4 Thanks for replying! I’m applying to LEDA.
@hamlon same for the summer programs. I feel that they want to see quality over quantity, and that they would much rather see the obstacles that you had to overcome.
I got a 1470 on the second psat practice test (730 CR+W 740 M)! This is NMSF in Texas!!!

@KG974 Congratulations! I’m from Texas, too, and I doubt I’m getting that scholarship. Are you better in R&W or Math? Because R&W averages two sections (so high writing and low reading gets a lower score than normal) yet Math is super intense - one question missed means you likely won’t get a perfect score.
Bonus: I read the “NMSF” as “NSFW.” Toootally different meaning, my friend. @-)
So SNHC anybody? I watched the debate rather than prepare for tomorrow’s class debate…
I also just took the first PSAT Practice test and got a 1450. It’s still improvement, but I’m pretty disappointed. I feel like its impossible to get to 1470, let alone 1500’s! Perfect score seems so far away…and I really want to qulify for NMSF for financial aid. Some colleges offer full ride tuition for NMSF!!!
Technically I was part of SNHC tonight, because my APUSH homework is handed in over Google classroom, so even though I don’t have school tomorrow, my APUSH homework had to be finished by tonight. But I will also participate in a kind of MNHC tomorrow, as I need to cram-prepare for my musical audition on Tuesday! I’m auditioning for every female part in Bye Bye Birdie, and I haven’t looked at anything yet!!!
