High School Class of 2018

I don’t know about if both the weighted and unweighted GPAs appear on my transcripts (they probably do, but I don’t know for sure), but we have W and UW GPAs. Five points are added to the grades of AP classes and the college credit classes that our school offers. Last year I had 10 raw points (2 classes) added onto my averages, this year is the same. Next year, I plan on having 15 (3 classes).

I’m pretty sure that colleges don’t care about your weighted gpa; they just look at your normal gpa and take into consideration your classes.

SPOILERS: (read in River Song’s voice)

I honestly just started crying at the end of episode 10 season 9 Doctor Who when Clara died. The Doctor’s way of coping with it was quite epic though, especially at the beginning of episode 11. Heaven Sent is honestly epic tho.

@LeopardFire We can retake a test regardless of the original test score. We have a 100-point test retake policy in my math class this year which allows you to retake up to 100 points, on tests, per quarter. It works similarly to a debit card. For example, I’m planning on retaking the test I got a B (an 80%) on. If I were to get at least a 90% (an A) on the retake, I’ll have a better test grade, but I will lose 10 retake points for the quarter, which means I’ll have 90 of the 100 retake points left for the rest of the quarter. The policy itself, in my opinion, is very lenient. I calculated that if one were to score no less than a 66% on each test per quarter, we only have three tests per quarter, they could retake each test, get a 100% on each of them, and still have one retake point left for the quarter. We also have the “quiz grade bump” policy through all of the math classes at my school that states that if you don’t do so well on a section of a quiz, but did really well on that section on the test, the quiz grade gets bumped up to whatever the test grade was plus 0.1 for improvement. For example, I got a 79% on my Analyzing Functions quiz from Unit 1, however, I got a 100% on that same section on the test. My Analyzing Functions quiz grade was bumped up to a 100.1%.

@ks2018 My school does. I would honestly hate going to a school that didn’t.

@kassh4 I also really hate how percentages aren’t shown. Especially since an A at my school is a 90% - 100%.

GRADE UPDATE:

Spanish 2 - 89% - B+

Functions/Trigonometry - 87% - B+
That test really hurt my grade. From what my friends have been saying, the test was not good for them either. I’ll be allowed to retake the test in a week or two. I’m not worried though, I’ll just need to do some studying.

Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics - 90% - A

AP English Language and Composition - 88% - B+

PLTW Principles of Engineering - 93% - A
I need to turn in a worksheet and retake the test to get a better grade.

U.S. and Virginia History - 90% - A
I still need to turn in a worksheet.

AP Chemistry - 89% - B+

I also talked with parents and they are completely on board with me donating blood during our school’s Fall Blood Drive. I actually really wanted to donate blood last year, but they told me I wasn’t old enough to do so, I had to be 16. I would donating blood during school hours so I picked to do it during my 4th period class in about two weeks. I have AP English Language my 4th period which is ironic considering my AP Lang teacher is the one who put the blood drive together.

When you are 6 weeks into an online class and realize you have a midterm next week. Like dang, I’ve been guessing my way through… :-c

Im thinkin about taking a statistics class at my local CC and then taking the ap test next year. Im gonna talk to my Stats teacher see how he feels about it

@Soccer1235 Heaven Sent is my favorite episode of Doctor Who ever! Amazing acting, directing, score, and cinematography. Pity BBC America put all of their eggs in one basket regarding the Emmys with Sherlock (not complaining, though), otherwise that episode would have probably won some awards. One of my favorite episodes of television ever! Did you know they’re filming the new season and the Christmas special right now? I’m so excited!

@ak2018 I’ve already decided that I’m going to donate blood on my 17th birthday next year. I’ll be able to donate without parents permission, and I figure it would be a good way to give back to the community.

@soccer1235 omg I watched those episodes like a week ago, they were amazing

Grade Update:

Medical Interventions Hon: 97-A (very chill class, i hate that it is early bird though)

Chem 2 Honors/AP Chem: 95-A (could be better, have a test this week)

AP Seminar: 99-A+ (all we do is talk in this class) :-@

AP Calculus: 86-B :((
(I hate math, and all we have is 4 grades and the quarter end next week, hurricane Matthew really messed up our whole schedule)

AP US History: 91-A- (Barely holding on, have a huge test tomorrow) :-S

AP English Lang: 98-A+ (She is behind on grades for like a month, we will see how long this last)

AP Psychology- 92-A (only have two grades, taking a test this Wednesday)

Symphonic Band: 100 A+ (easiest class to get a 100)

Marching Band: 100 A+ (i honestly don’t think this should count as a class but it helps my gpa, so cant complain)

Spanish 2 (Online): 90.67% A- (barely holding on, I hate spanish, especially online.) :frowning:

Are you guys part of a lot of clubs? It seems like many people are presidents of 5-10 clubs lol. I play piano, do sports, and volunteer at a local hospital, but so many people are the same and I don’t have any clubs. So I’m going to try to join Chemistry Club and Neuroscience Club since I know the people who run them.

I see people doing grade updates so I guess I’ll do one too haha?

Grade update:
AP Chem - A-

Culinary Art (lol) - A

AP Lit - B (going to have to raise this/improve my writing)

AP US History - A- (it’s apush so it’s pretty easy, though I have an A- bc I tend to do bad on those tests in AP classes during the first week or two)

Honors Spanish 4 - A- (going to have to raise this, I don’t really care about spanish but it dropped to an A- bc I totally bombed a quiz but I don’t think that’ll happen again, I just have to start paying more attention to spanish class)

Honors Pre Calc w/Trig - B (don’t think I’ll be able to get >95% and skip to BC sadly, but my test grades have been improving a lot so it’s raising slowly, but still going up at least)

@Tobster18 wouldn’t marching band, a regular class, bring your GPA down. Assuming you have over a 4.0.

Ig ill hop on the bandwagon

AP Chem- 94.46% This isnt including any of the labs because my teacher waits till the end of the semester to grade them and I didnt do too well on them so its going to go down, but i think i can still get an A.

AP Bio-98.13% Content wise its prob the hardest class but a lot of free points

English 3H-93.81% Not too many points in the gradebook and teacher is a hard grader. I will prob go down after she grades my essay

Chem 2H- 97.04% Class is easy content wise but A LOT of work.

APUSH-94.91% Class is a serious time commitment i have to spend so many hours studying for quizzes and tests it is crazy. Most time consuming class by far

Pre CalcH-97.39% Fairly easy, havent studied for anything so im happy with my grade test tomm tho.

Spanish 4H-100% teacher is super behind on grading and has only put in 3 grades.

@kassh4 I have around a 4.8 weighted and a 4.0 unweighted, and at my school a 100 in a regular class is weighted as a 5.0 so it would still help my weighted.

@frazzledazzle Yeah I saw that! @apple1893 Same but my midterm is tomorrow :))

I got into NHS  It’s not that prestigious at my school (well over 100 people in it) but it is still something to add to the college apps.
