High School Class of 2018

GUYS I NEED ADVICE!!! PLEASE READ!!!

So I take Macroeconomics through a local cc class online, and I hate it! I wrote before on this thread that I was guessing my way through, I WAS NOT JOKING! I just got a 48% on the midterm(15%), making my grade an 80% respectively (It says that online). Should I withdraw the class??? Basically, I can continue guessing my way through and comfortably get 100s on discussions (20% of grade) and 90s on assignments (50% of grade), but when the final happens, I WILL definitely get a big fat F (15% of grade), which would get me between a 72%-80% overall (too pissed to do math atm). TBH, I WILL stay in the class, If I am certain I can pull of an 80 overall, but not <= 79.

Basically, the reason I take classes there is because I took a stat class at the college and got a 93, so I was invited into their high school partnership program. I had to take this Macroeconomics class because it was an online class (not able to commute there during the fall due to soccer), and it was more appealing that other online classes.

Also, I will be sending this grade to college, so let’s say I do pull of an 80, they will see:

Statistics: 93
Macroeconomics: 80
Some other classes that I will definitely commute to: 90+

This situation above doesn’t seem too bad, and I am sure MIT (dream school) wont hate on me, but a C in a college level course will not do me any good…

Should I wait to withdraw, or should I just do it now? Do colleges frown upon withdraws? If I get A’s in other college level courses, and have one withdraw, will that lead to suspicion?

I know this long but I really need guidance!

Also note: This is not a requirement, I take these classes out of my freewill to learn.

@apple1893 is this class on your transcript and counted as part of gpa?

Not my high school gpa, but my cc gpa. I am going to ask them whether I can choose which class I can send or if they send all the classes as a whole. @kassh4

@apple1893 Say you drop can you pick up another class this late into the year? or do you not have a study hall and can pick up a study hall

@apple1893 I would either drop or see if it can be changed to pass/fail. You don’t want to mess up your college GPA. Are you sure you’re going to fail the final? Why not go to your professor 's office hours or email them for help? Do they not have any classes on campus?

Anyone find it weird that the class of 2021 thread is more active than the class of 2020? I guess it’s helpful to not have 3+ threads created just for your class alone.

My class’s poster got 1st place on Friday! Sadly our decorations got 3rd. School spirit day was a lot of fun! I even went to the Homecoming Game (didn’t have to since band wasn’t playing because of the rain), stood in the Student Section, and had a lot of fun! Some guy brought Moxie (a type of soda that’s popular in Maine) and a gigantic Rice Krispie Treat that were passed around. Sadly the football team lost 47-0. At least it wasn’t like last week where they lost 63-7.

@Hamlon The class of 2020 needs to centralize. It’s weird, though, that the class of 2021 is online - they’re in 8th grade!

What are you guys doing for SNHC today? I have a bunch to do for Poli Sci. I have to analyze 10 of Trump’s campaign promises and 10 of Hillary’s, write a paragraph on whose policies I think are better, list a bunch of their scandals/negative press, make a list of one-liners from the last debate, write a paragraph on who I believe won the debate and why, and then read a chapter of the textbook. Then for AP Bio I have to read a few sections of my textbook. RIP.

there was a while where the class of 2019 thread was more active than this one and it really bugged me lol.

I’ve been at a state key club conference all weekend so I definitely have some work to do!
AP Chem test tomorrow that I HAVE to get an A on
Honors Precalc bookwork and lecture
Medical interventions research
AP Physics packet
AP Econ test tomorrow

So for the PSATs Wednesday, to keep all the moo kids in school they brought this art creation/concert tour in called High School Nation. Apparently it was free and they donated $10,000 to our music programs. The headliner was drake bell which was pretty cool. Also our school has a girl kicker and she leveled a dude on his return two weeks ago so she went viral, got to go on sportscenter and everything.

Hey everyone, I’m new here! Gonna be exciting when all of us graduate in 2018

For right now, I’ll be studying from now to December for this SAT Math 2 Subject Test. I plan to get an 800 on that test (though I won’t be sad if I’m a couple point off!) to be one step closer to those Ivies.

I have this Barron’s SAT Math 2 book coming in tomorrow from Amazon and I’ll basically be depending on that book to get me through the test. I have knowledge of trigonometry, algebra, and all of that math learned from Grade 10 to right now, but not pre-calculus. I have a final mark of 96 in Academic Math 10 and an in-progress mark of 100 in Academic Math 11. I would be taking a higher-level math course, but my high school took away the Advanced or “equivalent-to-AP” Math 11 course recently so Academic Math 11 is the highest level course I can take right now (asides from IB) until I reach Pre-Calculus 11 next semester (and then Pre-Calculus 12 and Calculus 12 next grade).

Does this book sound right for me, or would I need other books to properly learn the subjects on that test?

@acomfysofa I’ve been procrastinating on taking that test for a while now (but I think its ok cause even though it covers up through precalc, I’m learning/reviewing some things in math class now that should be helpful). I have the Barron’s book too and I think its pretty good for what you want because it covers each topic pretty in depth and has a bunch of practice questions. Apparently its harder than the real thing too, so that’s good. I also have the official college board SAT II Math book because it has official practice tests which are probably useful. Good luck!

@snowfairy137 Thanks! Great to hear that it’s a book which teaches the material and not just for reviewing.

I recently heard of this program from my high school called Challenge for Credit where if you can show you already know the material, the school board assigns you a mark (heard it’s typically 100) and you automatically pass the course. I wonder if it would be possible to apply and get an automatic mark of 100 in Pre-Cal 11 next semester with an 800 SAT test and the only learning material being that book (haha).

Guys I have a question for anyone with knowledge about the SAT, I’m obviously a junior so since I used my 4 free score reports, can I still use score choice to prevent the colleges that I sent the reports to from seeing this score if I don’t achieve my desired result

Anyone in AP Bio know the relation between the pH in the stroma, thylakoid, and the cytosol. I said that stroma has the highest pH out of all 3 because I assumed since cytosol is mainly water it would be around 7, but literally everyone else put “Thylakoid has a lower pH than stroma” the answer didnt even mention the cytosol so I didn’t even consider it an option. Lowkey stressing.

^^^^ ignore. turns out read the problem wrong

Does anyone know any methods for staying awake, except drinking coffee. I’ve tried coffee and not only do I hate the taste but I hate how it makes me feel awake but disoriented and scatterbrained at the same time.

@Tobster18 20 minute naps do me well, but not around bed time but way before like 7 or 8 ish.

@Tobster18 I find electrolytes and drinking water helps. Maybe caffeinated tea would work better for you than coffee too? Idk I don’t like tea and only drink coffee with an insane amount of sugar in it (thanks starbucks).

@Tobster18 if you’re looking for a short term method like studying for a test the occasional energy drink shouldn’t hurt you if coffee isn’t doing the trick try an energy drink. Especially if you have the test like 1st or 2nd period I feel the energy drink powers you through the test even if you’ve been up all night, but if you have a really important test in the afternoon Id recommend you study till around 6 or 7 and sleep for 4 to 5 hours and then take your test
