High School Class of 2018

@kassh4 I’m interested in the ap chem chat, APUSH, and/or ap bio chat. My APUSH teacher cannot reach; the only thing she does is show us videos. Sigh…
@ak2018 does your teacher go by big ideas? At first, chem was a struggle for me, but I improved through practice and watching Bozeman science videos. I find them really helpful in explaining the concepts. Also, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I’ll do my best to help.

Hey Guys! Just finished up my paper for my online class.

@minimango @solarsystem @kassh4 @frazzledazzle I’d really appreciate having a group chat or something for AP Chem, as well as an SAT Math II thread.

@Kelvin82 Yes he does.

Hey Guys, I am going back to America today after spending the past 5 months studying abroad in Spain. This has been such an amazing experience and I dont want to leave but I am so excited to see my parents and family. Im coming for you America!!!

I just found out I’m more screwed in terms of college financial aid so thats fun.

Hi everyone, I decided to join CC once i stumbled across this thread. Junior year has been terrible for my depression and I struggled a bit last semester. I basically almost got straight B’s(6 B’s and 2 A’s) compared to being an A student but I’m excited to bounce back this semester!

Little bit about me:
I’m a black girl from South Florida and I attend a small middle/high school with about 1,400 students and 244 people in my junior class currently. I’m very passionate about beauty, fashion and social issues. With my passions I’ve started a fashion and beauty club at my school, and I’m the Vice President of the feminist club at my school. I’m currently working on the annual school spring fashion show and a BBQ where students can talk about social issues around the world, ask questions and educate each other. I also LOVE music and I’m trying to save up 225 dollars for this festival in Miami called Rolling Loud.

What I want to major in depends solely on what school I attend based on financial aid but here are my dream schools that are perfect matches for me:

Texas Christian University
University of Texas at Dallas
Howard University
Savannah College of Arts and Design
University of Miami

Also does anyone’s school have Cambridge Aice AS and/or A level classes? My school has been eliminating AP classes every year(only 5 AP classes left) and replacing them with Aice classes.
I have a 8 class block schedule with 4 classes each day
I’m taking
US History A level
Biology AS Level
Global Perspectives AS level
English Language AS level
Sociology AS and A level
As level is a normal class that fits one year worth of curriculum and A level fits two years worth of curriculum into one year so my Sociology class basically fits three years of curriculum into one!
I’m also taking AP Calculus AB and the only other AP class I’ve taken is AP Human Geography in freshman year

Aren’t A-levels a UK thing?

Any going on college visits this year? I’m going to tour some of the Ivy Leagues in April

I visited some of mine over Christmas break. I went to Johns Hopkins, Columbia, University of Chicago, University of Texas Austin, and Rice. Now I just need to visit soem safety schools… @angelwings0137

@snowfairy137 Not really but I noticed mostly only Florida schools use Cambridge as all Florida colleges accept some form of A level and/AS level credit.

@angelwings0137 I visted University of Miami, Tulane University, Emory and Texas Christian University during stops my family made when we went on a road trip to Dallas

@minimango UT is perfectly fine as a sole safety. Automatic admission and all that jazz. Is your potential major competitive?

Yeah I think the other schools are more of a reach but UT is more realistic financially (in-state) and academically. I think I want to pursue a career in Biochemistry. @Hamlon

@minimango Have you looked at Tulane, UTD, or Univeristy of Houston? They give out some pretty nice scholarships. At my school, students get full rides to UTD every year. I have to warn that UTD does have a commuter culture and is pretty dead on the weekends. It’s getting better (new housing and more dining options), but the school is still lacking.

@Hamlon None except for kinda the University of Houston because I have walked on the campus since I live here in Houston. I think my safety schools are Texas A&M and Baylor. They also have good scholarships but I definitely will research more about the universities you mentioned! Do you live in Texas?

And the reason I do not want to go to the University of Houston is because they also have a commuter culture like UTD.

@minimango Yeah. Automatic admission is a safety net. It really lets me apply to a wider array of reaches. It’s one of the few things Texas got partially right about education.

I’m jealous that you live in Houston (except for the traffic). Y’all are close to the coast, Austin, an awesome music scene, Louisiana, and great seafood. Dallas has malls, pretty buildings, the Cowboys, and the shame of SMU/Highland Park.

@minimango I am also interested in an AP chem and apush chat! Both of my teachers just read off ppts so I could use some more help too

I’m interested in APUSH and the Math 2 chat also!

I am going to Junior day at Virginia Tech, and I am also visiting VCU

Just heard that teachers in my province are rejecting the third contract deal and some are talking about going on a full strike. If they go on a full strike and then the government legislates them back to work, everyone can say goodbye to extra-help and any HS extracurriculars during HS :frowning:
