Update: On the practice test I got a 1490, 730 M and 760 R&W. I can only hope I’ll do this good on the actual test.
@neptuna which one did you take? I took some of the Collegeboard-released ones and I fared worse on them than on the actual test.
@Wolfgangbread The first one.
@neptuna I scored a 1500 on that one and got a 1550 when I took the actual test two days after. There’s variability, of course, but that’s at least my experience.
@Wolfgangbread That makes me feel even better!
@Wolfgangbread @neptuna what are your tips for the math section? i always do worse in math in everything
Time to annotate Great Gatsby! Drank a Dr. Pepper and hopefully will get it done before midnight, as I only have half left.
One day until January SAT scores come back !!! I’m nervous to see what I got.
kinda bummed my ACT scores didn’t come out today. sigh.
@Marg532 My district used to have an entire week when I was in elementary school, but now its only a four-day weekend. Today was my return to school. orz
@neptuna Is that when your school is taking it? I think mine is in April. Since I’m going to take a class for the math section to prepare me for the June SAT, I’m planning on prioritizing getting my R/W score to a 700+. I want to get 600+ for math, but that will be way harder for me, even with the course…
@Soccer1235 I read that in English last year! What do you think about it?
@carmen00 @nova17 I hope your scores turn out well!
I have Junior Planning next period, which is a weekly class that goes over college stuff. I think I’m the only one who actually looks forward to it. x)
@LeopardFire I feel that I would much rather have a 4-day weekend than an entire week, mostly because musical has one less week to practice before our shows. Also, Junior Planning sounds like a good class… wish my school had that.
@LeopardFire Yes. Sorry, I just assumed your school was doing the same SAT School Day thing. I kind of hope I don’t get a stellar score the first time around. Like, imagine if I got a 1600 and retook it because I was missing the essay section and then got a 1500. I’m planning on retaking it in October rather than June because over the next few months I’ll be studying for 4 AP exams and an SAT II, and I don’t know about adding the SAT to that study schedule. I’m also pretty nervous about math because I tend to be more frantic in the actual testing environment, so I don’t know if I’ll be thinking as clearly.
@ivakk I’ve just always been pretty good at math, so I’m not sure I have any wizard strategies, but I can think of a few things that would help. If you’re solving an equation, write down every step. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve gotten answers wrong just because I forgot to add that one constant or whatever. And with word problems, try to come up with an equation. Again, it just makes things easier to see. You can also save time if you pay attention to when it’s appropriate to use your graphing calculator. For example, if it asks you to find the roots of a quadratic equation in standard form, then you don’t need to waste time factoring. Just plug it into your calculator and solve.
Idk if I should take the SAT my school paid for next week. I’m taking college classes so I’d miss Physics and Chemistry. I’m already missing school that Friday for a robotics competition and idk, I really don’t wanna miss chem. However, I need to take the SAT at some point to qualify for NMF (already took the ACT and got a 36 with 10/12 W) and that’s like $60 down the drain if I don’t do it next week. My family isn’t in financial trouble or anything, but I still want to save as much as possible. What should I do??
Snowfairy137 - talk to your guidance counselor. For the PSATs in October my daughter had a dual enrollment class at the same basic time. They had dd come as soon as she was done and she took the PSATs in the guidance office. Her school doesn’t pay for SAT’s so dd will take in in June after she finishes an MIT SAT prep program.
@ivakk honestly, I don’t understand why I did so well on math when I last took the SAT (780) when my practice tests were giving me 700-730 range scores. The math section definitely calls for a more tight grasp of all requisite concepts than other sections, so having a thorough refresher of all concepts (particularly geometry) is necessary (which is something I neglected to do).
I ended up staying up till one for the annotations, but got 34/35 for them, which is good enough for me.
@LeopardFire I really enjoyed it! The end made me really sad, but it was an excellent read. Obviously annotations took some of the fun out of it, but oh well.
@LeopardFire I wish I had a class like that.
Anyone else have school vacation this week? I think February vacation is just a New England thing because of basketball tournaments.
Just took a diagnostic ACT from the Official ACT prep book. Without any prep, I scored 32 on Math and 31 on Science, but 25 on English and 24 on Reading :(.
I looked at the questions I got wrong. Math just needs a little more reviewing, Science only needs a couple more basic topics to learn, and a grammar book will probably do for English. But for Reading, I had no idea why they were wrong for half of the wrong questions :-/
@acomfysofa There isn’t really anything to learn on the science section it is just reading graphs and stuff.
@kassh4 Then would it just be practice? I found that many of the questions were easy, but some of them were worded weirdly and those were mostly the type of questions that I got wrong.
