@acomfysofa Yeah i think the science is all about practice and strategy.
Anyone here know any resources on improving English and Reading for the ACT? Looking to get 32+ from 24/25 in those subjects.
I know a website called albert.io I know that they have test prep on there. I know they have a few questions for free and the rest you have to pay for but I don’t think it’s anymore expensive then a test prep book, but it gives you an explanation for every question and why each answer choice is wrong or right. They also have test prep for all AP classes and I have the APUSH full version and it’s great.
So for the phone interviews for the Hamilton Scholars, you needed to sign up for a slot by the 19th. I checked today, and only 67 people signed up for one, meaning the other 3 people are automatically disqualified. THAT means that instead of a 50% shot of getting in, I now have a 52.24% chance! I’m loving that tiny 2.24% right now haha
You guys, I think I found my major. I know I vowed to never major in engineering, but I’m probably going to major in Biomedical Engineering. :)) I’m not all that attracted to the idea of building things and that’s why I avoided it, but I finally realized that not everyone who majors in engineering ends up an engineer. I’ll still be able to enter a research-oriented field. That major would provide me with a perfect balance of math and biology (my two main interests), and it would open up so many doors for grad school. I feel like I’m on Say Yes to the Dress and I’ve just found my dress, like, I’m ecstatic. <:-P
Got my act score. I got a 29. Not what I wanted but it’s alright for my first time, especially since I was sick with a horrible cold when I was taking it so I don’t feel that bad about how I did. Better luck next time I guess. Can’t wait to see my sat scores
Guys I got a 1490 on my sat!!!
@Hamlon that’s great! I got a 1350! I want to improve on this, but it’s still the highest I’ve ever gotten on my past psats and practice tests. I’m pretty pleased.
750 on Math 2! Not bad for someone who only self-studied Pre-Cal before the test
Next step: US History by more self study :))
Also, it’s proof that I can definitely get better than a 30 in Math on an ACT (which I got on my first practice test yesterday).
I got the same exact score on my Jan SAT as the Dec SAT. The only difference is my math went up 20 points while my reading and writing went down 20 points. At this point I’m frustrated especially since I thought I did so much better this time. I guess I’m just going to focus on my ACT next week and March SAT. I’m probably going to sign up for the April ACT, maybe I’m just focusing on the wrong test.
I got 1480, I’m not upset since it’s my first time. Not looking forward to the retake tho
I got a 1480, and this was my second time. I improved my math from 680 to 790, but I only did so bad the first time becuase of fatigue from football the night before. I only improved my r+w from a 670 to a 690, and I got a 14/24 on the essay. I wanna do math/science/economics in college, so I don’t know if I should retake. Like I already showed I’m good at math and decent at English.
I’ve decided that my first-choice school is University of Rochester. The financial aid is great, their Biomedical Engineering program is fantastic, lots of opportunity for research, and I like the city. High Italian-American population. Plus, my parents grew up there, so I think they’re gonna be pretty happy with that. The only problem is that the acceptance rate is 34%. I’m gonna have to ace the SAT.
Well, I had a 90 point drop from 1550 to 1460 this time around, which was probably caused by the fact that I had auditions for the All-State Music Festival right after. On the bright side, I did get perfect on the essay, but I don’t even know if I want to superscore with such a stark difference in scores.
Congrats on all the SAT and ACT results! It seems like most of the SAT takers scored in a similar range. :o
@neptuna Mine is April 5th, so I have to start studying. orz Do most schools take it March 1st?
@Soccer1235 I don’t really know how to feel. I was kinda sad for Gatsby, but there was a lot I didn’t like about him. I think everyone did things they shouldn’t have, except for maybe Nick.
I found out about a program that will let me take a college course for free at a nearby school. I’m already taking 4 AP’s and an honors class, but its free college credit, plus there are so many cool options. If I do it, I’m planning on taking either Writing for the Media or Online Journalism. I would gladly drop AP Stats or AP Enviro Sci to lighten my load, but I don’t want to lack in math or science courses. orz
Have you all mapped out when you are getting your standardized tests done? I think this will be my timeline:
April - 1st SAT
May - AP Tests for AP Lang and APUSH, SAT subject tests in English and US History
June - 2nd SAT
My goal is to get my highest R/W possible the first time around, so I can put all of my energy into the M section in June.
You guys encourage me to push myself so much and I love it! My school isn’t too competitive (1/3 of the students end up at the local community college). I got a 1220 on my SAT which is really good and similar to my friends but compared to you guys’s scores it seems so low. I am definitely going to retake it 1 more time.
Apparently I got a 100 on my Math exam and a 98 on my Canadian History exam from last semester, so my Math final mark went up and my Canadian History mark stayed the same
Also, I was one of the few (or the only one) to get a 100% on a Pre-Cal geometric series test from yesterday! The only reason I got a 100 was from my self-taught Pre-Cal for the SAT Math 2 previously, because there was this question that involved both geometric series… and higher-degree polynomials (ex. x^8)! That was never covered in class or in the homework @-). It’s safe to assume that probably only me and a couple exchange students got it.
@madison2000 We use albert.io for AP Chem. It’s pretty useful sometimes.
@Marg532 Congrats!! Hope you make it!
Isn’t it weird that you likely would not have heard about this opportunity if I had not put it in this thread?! You would’ve missed out!
@neptuna Congrats on finally finding your major. Welcome to the vast world of engineering! We’ve been expecting you!
Also, Rochester is definitely on my list too!
I’m also switching my schedule up a bit so that I’m taking AP Comp Sci online and AP Econ at school. I’m also planning on practicing and coding in Java over the summer. For those who have taken AP Comp Sci, what are your thoughts?
I came into school and talked about my good sat score. My friend who took an expensive sat prep course got an 1100 (worse than on his psat) and now I feel super bad for talking so much about it. He really wants to get into Notre Dame, and now he has lost all hope in increasing his score.
To anyone who may have gotten a lower score: don’t give up! Your score doesn’t define you, and you will get into a good college.
My score went up 110 points from an 1410 to a 1520!! I am in shock. The wildest part is that my math score went up 100 points from a 680 to a 780! My mom and I were laughing because I missed 6 questions in the grammar section. Oh well, I always knew I was bad at english
