High School Class of 2018

I took the SAT today (second try), I think it went well, but may need to retake. IDK hoping for the best and remaining positive.

I forgot my calculator for the SAT. :((

@PulseStar Ouch how did that fare

I might get some program decisions next week! Hopefully I get at least a bit of good news…

@Soccer1235 I think I did okay. The section took me a bit longer than usual and I guessed on one problem. Let’s hope calculation errors don’t kill me.

@Soccer1235 When do you think they will tell us about NIDDK Step Up. It says mid march, so i was thinking maybe this week or next.

@Hamlon I love 6LACK!!

So today I went to and AspireIT event. Everyone was really nice and I met some professors from Virginia Tech. I think I like it more that UVA now.

@PulseStar If I didn’t have my calculator I definitely wouldn’t have finished so kudos to you
@Tobster18 I’m hoping they let us know next week!

Went to tour some colleges this weekend and I liked all of them but I really loved UCLA! We also visited UCSB, USC, and LMU

I have a visit to Penn State set up for this Saturday. I thought, “we won’t get snow in March.” No snow during the winter but a snowstorm in March now. Sometimes I really underestimate the craziness of PA weather. How’s Boston near the end of April? I’m visiting 2 colleges up there then.

@Tobster18 This was on the NIDDK STEP-UP website
“The NIDDK STEP-UP Director will begin notifying applicants of acceptance into the STEP-UP program by email on March 15, 2017, this will continue until all available spots are filled. Accepted applicants will be required to confirm their participation within one week of notification.”

One of my sister’s friends found a National Economic Challenge online and we started a team of 4. Ended up placing #1 in PA which qualifies us for the state competition on the 21st. Two rounds to go and we can get cash and a trip to NYC I’m very excited.

Also, now have college visits scheduled for Williams and Cornell, the process is getting very real.

@soccer1235 Ahhh, im so nervous!!! When was the last time your application was updated?

@Soccer1235 Hold up, where did you see it say that? On the application portal?

I saw that on the program website @Tobster18 and it was last updated March 3rd. The only thing that I’m not too happy about is that you only get one week to decide, and I have so many other applications floating around. Maybe they could give me a deadline extension if I get accepted (which probably won’t happen lol)

Edit: here’s the website https://www.niddk.nih.gov/research-funding/research-programs/diversity-programs/research-training-opportunities-students/short-term-research-experience-underrepresented-persons-step-up/frequently-asked-questions

@Soccer1235 Mine was last updated March 8th. I also have the same problem, I applied to NIH SIP and I’m still waiting on a few PI’s who said they would contact me soon. Honestly, if I get accepted I’m just going to say yes, and if something better crops up, I’m going to tell them that unfortunately I won’t be able to commit. But, on the other hand that is kinda of selfish, because I would be stealing a spot from someone else. Thanks for the website.

No problem and lol I applied for Jackson and I emailed a PI who never responded. not sure if it is a good idea to try emailing another because I’m not sure if I’m not supposed to do so

I also applied to STEP-UP! @Tobster18 @Soccer1235

@aspiringgirl Hopefully, we all get in. I don’t think this program is that popular.

Yeah I couldn’t even find a CC thread on it :)) I guess it isn’t as popular cause you don’t do a residential program but they do pay you a fair amount which is really cool
