High School Class of 2018

Congrats @ak2018! That’s amazing!!!

My school has a half day tomorrow so we get out at 11! That’s never happened before! Good thing that’s after my math class; we’re eating pie for Pi Day tomorrow in class.

I still have a few weeks to wait for SSP and YSPA. The anticipation is killing me! Any tips on how to pass the time without going insane?

Just looking through the c/o 2017 thread is giving me anxiety. Do you think we’re going to be the same way in a year’s time?

@Hamlon How bad is it? Hopefully we aren’t like that gif of that guy walking into a room with pizza only to find it’s on fire next year. Some of them might be freaking out because MIT admissions results come out tomorrow night.

the WashU thread is even better. WashU doesn’t have a set result date, so it’s a group of kids thinking today is going to be the day only to be disappointed.

@frazzledazzle There’s not really anything else left for them to talk about except their college acceptance dates and college app regrets. Not to put them down, but it is pretty entertaining. I know this is going to come and bite me in the butt in the future, but I just find all of these decisions threads really captivating.
@kassh4 I have to check that out! Have you seen r/applyingtocollege right now? They are making memes out of their angst. My favorite is the one about a “One Night Stand.”

@Hamlon Lol yeah I saw. God, I love r/Applyingtocollege.

@kassh4 I just found a YouTuber on the WUSTL thread, so thanks for the recommendation. Lol. :))

@Hamlon Yeah i saw him on r/Applyingtocollege a few days ago.
I didn’t know until today but Su at Su the youtuber is a mod on reddit.

@kassh4 Holy crud. It’s a small world. What’s her username?

Honestly, if I get to the point where I can make a serious application with actual SAT scores to top schools, then I’d be satisfied. It isn’t about getting in for me; it’s about knowing what would happen if I seriously applied.

My main problem is knowing if my SAT test taking abilities are good enough for a 1500+, because I’m not completely sure :frowning: The Subject Tests are alright. But the SAT? For a top 1% SAT score, it’s hard not because that score requires top knowledge in AP-level courses or whatever, but because they made it harder by making the questions difficult to interpret and easy to miss small pieces of detail on (which is all because of a time limit that doesn’t give a reasonable amount of time to read questions carefully).

@Hamlon tylersunami. Lol i thought tylersunami was a dude this whole time.

@acomfysofa Try the ACT maybe

Some of us probably will be. TBH though, stressing isn’t going to change the results. I have a feeling my parents are going to be the first ones to find out because I don’t check my emails that often.

@Hamlon The deposit has to be sent within 30 days of your acceptance. I’m planning on seeing if I can get it reduced though.

@ak2018 I’ll contact them today then. Hopefully, they aren’t on break!

@Hamlon I would say to try and take this chance to challenge yourself. I’d recommend taking Differential and Integral Calculus and Physics I for Engineering Students. Both would definitely be rigorous and challenging, but would definitely get you some credit on your transcript if you pass.

Also, it’d be cool if we were in the same class section! :smiley: I checked the AP/EA course list and there’s only one section of Differential and Integral Calculus, so we might be. Honestly, I’m planning on getting all the other participants and doing a group study hall for Calculus and Physics. I really want to pass Calculus and get the credit, so I might be able to get into Calc BC. I don’t how I’m going to pass Calc and Physics in six weeks! :))

@Hamlon I like the common app roasts on r/ApplyingToCollege.

@ak2018 That’s what I chose to sign up for because all of the programming classes have a morning AND afternoon time slot everyday. That is NOT how I plan to spend my summer. I’d rather be exploring the city/campus and getting to know a lot of people. It seems like both programs give students a lot of freedom to leave campus and do whatever provided they still go to class and check-in at night.

I am so happy about this snow! I should be using this day to be productive, but Im making waffles instead lol. Is SAMS your first choice @ak2018. Also, I already took the SAT, so I dont know what I would do for the SAT prep course

Do all of you still have school? I have March (Spring) Break this week!
