So, since I’m finally taking a one week break from worrying about my online class, before starting my final project, I’m going to use next week to do a little studying and prep for my subject tests. I’m going to be taking the Chemistry, Literature, and Math Level 2 tests all in May. I also decided that if I do well at the SAMS Physics Seminar, I might take the SAT Physics test in September.
I really wish my school had an intro physics class. We go straight to Physics C Mechanics and E&M. That’s also only a senior class so by the time I take it college apps will be done most likely. I’m worried that I’m gonna like physics a lot but its gonna be too late to become a physics major.
Are any of you interested in applying to UPenn? I only ask because I was in Philly today and I passed their soccer team lol. But a fun little story for you all: my parents’ work does some business with Penn medicine. And almost every single day someone has to go down to Penn to fix something because the students break stuff while doing research almost every day.
I don’t know why but this sort of comforts me. Like, these students are incredibly smart yet somehow they still don’t seem to know how to properly use and take care of equipment. Kinda makes me feel better for whatever reason.
Anyway, as this is the second time this week I was in Philly and passed one of their teams, I thought I’d share lol.
@kassh4 We do have both a basic Physics class (of which is fairly easy, yet most people fail due to the math involved) and AP Physics 1 at my school. We also have AP Physics 2, which is offered online because no one takes it at my school, and AP Physics C Mechanics only. If you have a potential interest in Physics, I would talk to the Physics teacher at your school or look online to learn more about it. AP Physics C is a mainly-senior class at my school.
I toured RPI today and I loved the school! Although it was raining and snow was still on the ground, the campus still stood out with its beautiful buildings. During the information session, I learned things about RPI that I never knew of: It was the first college to administer an engineering degree; It has 100% employment for those who want to pursue IT (not me, but that sounded dope); also RPI ranks high with high return rates on the college investment after graduation.
Overall, RPI is ranking high on my list and I felt like it was a good fit. Hopefully I am awarded the Rensselaer medal this spring!
@carmen00 UPenn is actually my number one! My friend actually plays football there and I’ve seen their womens soccer as well.
@acomfysofa I’m an international. We have 3 terms for each academic year and exams at the end of every term. Juniors however, take mock exams in the middle of every term and at the end to prepare for the national exams…next year. It’s pretty grueling. Worst part is, for the national exams, we take only 9 subjects, but we’re forced to learn all 15 at my school because the director says he wants us to have a “broad base”.
What SAT prep materials do you guys recommend? I want to test in November, but I’m aiming for a 1600(yikes).
Did anyone here apply to Yale Young Global Scholars?
@gigichuck Your SAT prep schedule is prob going to be different based on what level you are on and what your subscores are. Have you taken any practice tests?
So I got into economics for future leaders at Rice University! Low key considering majoring in economics now instead of chemical engineering, but we’ll see if I get into any engineering summer programs. Anybody else waiting on summer program acceptances?
@ChemistryKing7 I’m waiting on a few summer programs
I find out about the Hamilton program on the 31st and I’m super nervous! I think I bombed my interview, but it was only because I was super nervous. I don’t know, though… I’ve got 5 days to stress about it haha
On another note, I got my prom dress today! It’s really adorable!
@kassh4 no I haven’t
@Marg532 I got mine early this month and I’m getting it tailored this week. I’m so excited for prom!
When’s everybody’s prom and what’s your theme?
@madison2000 My prom is on April 29th! We’re having a fairytale theme. I get my dress back sometime in April and I’m so excited. That reminds me, I need to buy my prom ticket this week lol.
@madison2000 Mine is May 20 and I have no idea what the theme is. I know what dress I want, but I am way too lazy to get it
@madison2000 May 14th! No idea on the theme, but my date is wearing a white dress so I’ll have to get some kind of matching suit
@gigichuck I would start by taking a practice test from Khan Academy.
Are any of y’all doing college interviews this semester? I got an email saying I can do an interview for Reed College this weekend at a local coffee shop and feel like I should get it over now. Is it worth it to wait?
I toured UW-Madison today, I liked some parts but not others at all. I’m hoping to tour some more schools to see what type I like.
I’ve been looking at prom dresses with my mom and got a pretty necklace I may use depending on if it matches my dress. We don’t really have a theme but I’m super excited because this year it is at our new stadium and should be super pretty.
@Hamlon I think you should wait, because I feel like doing an interview now will only have them kind of not remember you when it comes to your application. I also feel like by waiting and doing other college interviews at the same time, you can kind of get a feel of how to answer certain questions and whatnot if that makes any sense. That’s just my opinion, but if you feel that you’re completely ready, than go for it.
