High School Class of 2018

@soccer1235 I envy you. Honestly if I got into NIDDK Step Up I would’ve done it for NIH SIP because housing is way more difficult than I thought, especially for a 16 year old minor.

Why does my school not have a spring break?! I used to think that spring break was only a college thing because my school never had it. I could really use a week off right now.

@Tobster18 Don’t envy me hahaha but NIH is more easily recognizable than NIDDK and the SIP is harder to get into. Have you checked with colleges in the area?

@carmen00 That sucks! D: Do you get out of school really early, though? That’s kinda nice.

When does school end for everyone? My last day is June 19th.

Also, is anyone checking out colleges over Spring Break? I wanted to see a lot of schools, but since my dad has work all week, I can’t go anywhere until the weekend. I might go see Eastern Connecticut State University, since it would be a solid safety for me that’s not far from where I live.

The last day will be May 25th but I get out May 24th. My spring break was last week, and I should have gone and checked out a few nearby colleges, but I was too lazy to get out of the house :))

@LeopardFire we don’t get out early either. we were supposed to get out on June 7th but because of the snow it’s pushed back until June 12th. We start the week before labor day and end around the time most other schools end. Weird how we don’t have a spring break.

@soccer1235 I have checked but all colleges around the NIH only house students 18 yrs and above. Right now I’m looking at subletting an apartment with a few interns. Crossing my fingers.

I get out June 2nd. But I’d like to get out April 12th…but maybe that’s just me…

School for me began on September 1 and it ends on June 15. We don’t have April break until next week (it coincides with Patriots Day).

@LeopardFire I’m going to Harvard for an astronomy talk on Friday night while I’m in Boston. I’m also visiting (hopefully) the New England Conservatory, BU, and MIT.

School ends for me on May 26th, but since I only have to take 2 exams, I’ll be out earlier

We get out June 2, I have spring break right now though. @sewin2music You are not alone! :))

I get out June 12 and take regents for that whole week and into the next week.

I haven’t really thought of college visits this week. If so maybe a safety SUNY school!

I have an outline for a research paper due in 2 hours and of course i’m on collegeconfidential procrasitinating

I also visited Pomona/CMC and USC these past two days and I liked them (well, not really pomona) but I realized that I REALLY want to get away from family for college. The whole time we were there my parents/uncle were like “hey, if you go here we can visit you pretty often and you can come home easily” and I really don’t think I’d be into that. Also, I realized I really wanted a school with diversity of thought or at least had different views from me. Despite being liberal, I thought Pomona was too liberal for me because I wouldn’t be exposed to any new views. I felt like going to a school that thought exactly like me would result in boring conversations since every conversation would just be like “hey, i have this viewpoint” “I agree” “ok” “yeah”

@carmen00 They do, but it’s only for Semester 2 courses and I’d have to take it before a deadline. There’s 3x courses at my school: Pre-Calculus 11 & 12, and Calculus 12. I didn’t know enough Pre-Calculus 11 at the time to take the exam, I can’t take the Pre-Calculus 12 exam because it’s a Semester 1 course, but I could take the Calculus 12 exam if I know enough Calculus by then.

Lol school ends for me on June 30th. Though exams are a week before.

Oh man if only you juniors knew what shit storm awaits for you in college :-w

@Darknez your name gave it all away.

@Darknez well if that isn’t ominous

Hey Guys! I’ve got quite a bit to tell/update you about.

After calling the NASA Virginia Earth System Science Scholars Program coordinator to keep her posted about the development of my new club, V-NASA, I found out some really interesting things about the upcoming VESSS summer academy. They’re apparently revamping the academy in order to give it a more modern feel to it. This summer will also be NASA Langley’s 100th year anniversary, so we’re in for a special treat. They’re adding a resume skills session where we’ll get our resumes edited by a girl who attended Harvard! So yeah, it’s going to be really cool, but the best thing about that is…

I’M GOING TO BE A PAID NASA INTERN NEXT SUMMER! My NASA connections are going to pay off big time after graduation!

V-NASA Club Update: I’ve talked with all three of the NASA school programs and they’re planning on emailing me the PowerPoints I need for my club. They said they’re really happy that I’m starting this club. I’m planning to have the club’s interest meeting on May 11th! I can’t believe this is my life!
