Currently, my summer will be doing scholarships, my common app essay, study for September ACT, work at my summer job on the river, visit colleges, and hopefully attend a one-week college program.
@gigichuck Aw thanks! I try to always have something to accomplish, probably the reason why I’m almost always stressed out. I’m more or less positive, but I still strive for happiness and success. :))
I finished my APUSH movie project! I’m currently waiting for it to upload to youtube so that I can just link to it and not have to worry about USBs and stuff. I’m making it unlisted, though, because I hate the sound of my voice lol
@Hamlon Thanks for the reassurance! That GPA thing sounds like a pretty good idea. I did the calculations and it would put me at a 3.8W GPA.
@FreePariah I almost forgot you’re going to SAMS. Can’t wait to see you there. Also, we have a GroupMe chat, not a Discord.
Are you guys planning on applying to a lot of colleges? I’m planning on applying to 15+, hopefully so I can get scholarships to make up for the costs by a lot. Ideally, the rewards will be worth the investment of applying to a lot. I’m planning on starting my essays this summer so I don’t go crazy next year with essays.
Does anyone know any good threads that discuss merit aid? I thought my list was pretty set until my family finally ran the NPC at my schools after I’ve been bugging them for months. Based on their reactions, I think my out-of-state schools should generally be ones where I might qualify for merit aid.
@saxynerd My dad wants me to stick to 10. We can thankfully afford our state schools so I don’t need to cast as wide of a net for privates.

@saxynerd I plan on applying to 10 colleges. I’m freaking out because the cost for applications is over 400 dollars and that’s not including paying to send my SAT and ACT scores to these colleges. But all of these colleges put me in the range to full tuition to full ride scholarships, it’s only a matter of me standing out in the eyes of admission officers.
Which 10 are they?
@saxynerd Money won’t let me do that. :)) I’ll likely apply to no more than 7 colleges.
Also, PSA, UPitt is waiving application fees for anyone who visits them this summer, which I will be.
Also, does anyone have any crazy dream career plans? On Monday night, after I worked a little bit on my NASA stuff, I literally thought “I want to put a man on Mars!”. I thought about everything and here’s what I planned:
Intern at NASA while in college, find a way to intern at SpaceX one summer during college, get employed by SpaceX (by potentially bribing Elon Musk :)) ) right after college, work my way up the ladder and help put a man on Mars by 2040!
I love how I thought this out even though it might not happen this way. I’m definitely going to try.
I will be visiting upitt this summer as well. I really like the school, but feel that it will be too much for me especially because I’m in NY, only if there was some kind of reduction for border states. XD
I have 10 schools on my list right now. 4 of them are free to apply to, which is great because it offsets the costs.
I lost my election for student council president today. It hurts. I’m upset and angry. I’m the only person in my grade who has been in student council longer than a year, yet I lost to someone whose first year of student council was this year. Oh well.
@frazzledazzle the same thing happened to me in robotics elections this year. It stings
In my student council, you cannot hold a VP or P position without being in student council for at least one year. Maybe try to propose this? @frazzledazzle
@julia35002 I don’t think you can change rules after an election.
I want to apply to maybe 10. I get anxiety thinking about the “what if” situation that I don’t get into any school. The thing is I only know of three schools I’m going to apply to.
I also attempted to start my common app essay, but then felt extremely overwhelmed. It’s not that I don’t know what to write but I am afraid to not come off as I want to (if that makes since).
@julia35002 I think it’s too late for that. Plus, it would make it look like I’m a poor loser. I’m just going to run for P of NHS if/when I get accepted.
It is my birthday today! <:-P I can’t believe I’m going to be an adult in a year, I’m not ready.
I think I want to apply to around 5-7 schools. 2 safeties, 3-4 matches, and 1-2 reaches seems like a good balance to have, but I don’t know how many my sister wants to apply to. It might be best if we apply to no more than 5 schools each because of all the app fees.
