High School Class of 2018

@snowfairy137 my school is Trump nation. The day after election day was rough for me and some others, while kids wrapped in trump flags and wearing trump shirts were running through the hallways. Idk, I just keep my political opinions to myself unless I’m having an actual discussion with someone. I mean, it’s annoying, but I’ve grown tolerant of others.

@camen00 that sounds like a really toxic environment I’m sorry

@carmen00 Are schools in the US political like that? At my school, most people have no political affiliation. Though if you praise Trump then people will think you’re nuts :))

@acomfysofa My school is heavily liberal. It’s so bad that people like me (conservatives) are afraid to even speak their minds. I think I said this before in the thread but that is why I created my school’s first Teenage Republican’s club and its been rough. The fact that I am black, Republican, and support Trump definitely gets me a lot of hate in my school. Many school systems across America definitely have dominant political ideologies.

Diversity is nonexistent in my school out of the 350 kids (7-12) there are less than 5 kids who are colored, no Asian kids, and a few latino kids about 5 or less.

1000 kids and I can think of less than 20 non-white students. Ya, no diversity here too. It doesn’t really bother me tho everyone is pretty friendly.

Going to sleep will be up in 4 hours to write a paper wish me luck.

@Iridescentgaze One thing I have realized, though, is that entitlement and cultural appropriation at my school doesn’t necessarily make my schoolmates bad people. The vast majority are incredibly nice and I’m still glad to be friends with them, but that doesn’t mean I won’t call them out. I just hate how so many people complain about how my school is the “worst ever” when the environment is all they’ve ever known. I imagine the same environment as my school would happen at places like UMich or Vanderbilt because of their rich white kid student bodies, but it seems like those schools have enough diversity for racism to be reduced to a shallow level.

@carmen00 lmao ironically my school is very politically connected ofc because it’s a rich kid school in a swing state, but still generally respectful of varying political views. the only time I’ve ever really had an issue with my (liberal) political opinions was when I responded to this one conservative kid’s political meme with a liberal meme and he blew up at me lmao (my meme was about trump vodka and his was about bernie sanders ice cream why did he get so mad idek)

There’s a kid in my study hall who has worn multiple articles of clothing throughout the school year that have the confederate flag on them. Right after the election all of the conservative bigots came out of the shadows (liberal city surrounded by conservative small towns that feed into my high school) and it was scary for everyone who’s a minority. My friends and I were very sad after the election, and there was a massive division between people who were upset and crying in the halls and those who were celebrating.

Welcome @APUSHME !!! Chapel Hill along with App State are on my college list in the same categories or reach and safeties.

Awesome! what state are you from?

North Carolina, so I’m trying to stay in surrounding states.

Hey @APUSHME UVA is on my list too. I’m in-state.

Wow, the political environments at your some of your guys’ schools are eye opening. I’m kind of in this in between stage of regular ol mestiza (mixed indigenous and white Mexican) and black so I am told a wide variety of unsettling comments. I regularly vent to my mom about microagressions but there isn’t anything too major at my school in California.

I got a 100 on my trig test! My teacher said I put the rest of the class to shame lol. One person got a 42 on that test! It was hard, but not that hard. Many got grades in the 80s. I also got a 104 on my world history test (my teacher loves to give bonus questions.) My trig final will be brutal, but world history doesn’t have any essays since we have our research papers due the week before. My other two classes are English and Spanish. English will be a breeze since that class has been a joke all semester and Spanish should be fine since I get 100s on basically every test in there.

@julia35002

My old high school (around 1200 kids total) also had little diversity. Almost half the kids were Asian. I remember not having a single black kid in any of my classes (for 2 years).

Give me updates and wonderful news, guys! What’s the best thing that you’re looking forward to this summer?

Sleeping @arinuma

@APUSHME Welcome!! With stats like that, you’re gonna have a great college app season!! We are having a protest at my school today, so I’ll fill you all in on details later if you’re curious.

I hope all of you reading this have a great day!!
