@Hamlon It got BAD during college decisions coming out. I don’t know why, but that community is significantly toxic. I equate it to chance me threads. CC has pockets of fun helpfulness (ie. this thread), but reddit is just an unfiltered mess with the occasional joke post.
@Hamlon My Chance Me was my first post and I was really looking for more matches. I believe it’s beneficial to students who are applying to all Reach schools. It can be a strong wake up call.
I recently looked at that r e ddit for some resources but seeing what happened to the moderator really upset me. I think CC has more obnoxious kids than mean kids. But even the obnoxious kids aren’t /that/ bad. It’s pretty easy to ignore them. There are other related sub re ddits that I found that are mainly college students giving tips to incoming freshmen about cooking, what to pack, etc. Those seemed to be more positive.
@oPhilippos That one thread about the twins was honestly the good news story everyone needed to hear!
@dietcig I know. That mod was actually pretty cool. Most of the mods there are a lot less regulating than on here (no offense), except that one prefosh mod that pretty much only speaks in sarcasm and witty banter. I believe that mod was a mother and a admissions officer who literally took the time out of her day to regulate the thread and it kind of sucks the way she was treated.
@ak2018 wait which thread about the twins I wasn’t there for it
@oPhilippos Lol it was actually about quadruplets who were admitted to Yale.
I like r/A2C. I feel like it is a lot more active and they have really active Adcoms that are willing to help. Plus I feel like it is easier to ask questions over there and get a response. Outside of a select few threads on CC, I don’t think it is very helpful to me, but on r/A2C I feel like I can learn something new every time I read a post.
Why don’t we tell the stories of why we chose our usernames? For me, it’s simple- it’s the most memorable anagram of my first name, with an extra letter thrown in there.
I got my username from my first email which was a family email before that. Each letter is an initial for a family member, except “a” just threw that in there so it looks better, and the 4 comes from the fact that there are 4 of us.
My sister and I really wanted an account on Nicktropolis, so we tried to make a username w/ actual names we knew. Lol we failed, so we started dropping letters from the name Hamilton.
My username is literally just my first and last initial with our graduating class year because I’m basic AF. :))
mine was a character from my ancient greek textbook kinda
but it’s really just the greek version of the name Phillip (which isn’t even my name lol)
I completely made mine up as I was registering lol
See, I was trying to be punny at the time so well I can sew and I love music so I’m sewin 2 music (so into music) ahahaha… I’m sorry guys, truly… :-?
Mine is a band with a bad band name. It’s my go-to username when I don’t want to use my name since I know it will never be taken. Ironically they have a song called Harvard.
Edit: This is not an endorsement to listen to them. Their recorded music kinda sucks (gotta have that classic DIY indie sound) but they have really fun concerts. Actually I just realized that I feel that way with quite a few bands…wow I’m critical.
If you didn’t get your ACT scores on June 20th, have you gotten them yet? ACT tweeted that the next batch won’t be released until next Wednesday at 10am. https://twitter.com/ACTStudent/status/877192018170175488
I discovered the “Best Of” tab right now. A lot of parents are discussing the Philando Castillo verdict so I’d really avoid that tab if you don’t want to see their ugly arguments…I’ve already been muting anyone who carelessly retweets the videos on twitter. The discussions on CC especially shocked me because I was not expecting them to come up here. I think I need a social media break to process things on my own.
Well, I’m all packed and ready to go off to Christopher Newport (CNU). It’s going to be a 3-hour drive. I have orientation later today and I’m getting to meet my roommate. I’ll see you guys later and make sure to take lots of pictures.
Did anyone else go see that Tupac biopic?
Hey Guys! My first day here at CNU and the VESSS academy has been great!
After a long 5-hour drive, we finally made it to the residence hall, ate some lunch, and sat through a meeting of what we’re going to be doing throughout the week. At first, it seemed really complicated, but after a bit, it seemed manageable. The big takeaway was that this was going to be a large project: the purpose being to create an authentic NASA mission by Friday. I met my atmosphere group and I have to say they are definitely an interesting group of people. We quickly found our team’s dynamic and while I wanted to be the leader, I just felt like everyone kind of just took the lead instead. When it came time to choose positions, I decided to go with being the launch/orbit analyst just rather than being than being the leader this time. It’s okay though. I’ve been a leader all year in my engineering classes, I think I’ll let someone take over on this one.
Hey everyone! I made a video on ACT test tips for people who are looking to raise their scores. I recently got a 36 and I just wanted to help people because I hate standardized tests but ya gotta play the system I guess. PM me for the link (or tell me if I should post the link here)
Did everyone else finish the school year yet? I still have school until the 30th :((
