High School Class of 2018

@acomfysofa I’ve been done for a month lol

@acomfysofa I’ve been on summer break for a month too

Did you both just finish early in May for AP or whatever so you’re starting school in September, or are you both starting school in the beginning of August?

Over here, school is from beginning of September to end of June. If you’re in Grade 12 and taking IB, school ends in May for them.

@acomfysofa We got out the end of May and go back mid/end August.

My summer activities are literally nil because we have summer lessons every year and are only left with 3 weeks for holiday. Just realised that. I wonder if I can put summer lessons on my app :-?

Hey guys. I feel like I have no updates to talk about since all I’ve been doing is working. I need to start volunteering again though. I miss my kittens at the shelter!

I’m starting to organize everything for college applications. I finished organizing all my essays for schools that use the common app so hopefully none of them change their essay prompts. Starting next week, I hope to focus on one college and its essays per week. I also need to check out my applications for schools that don’t use the CA since I am applying for the honors college for many of those schools. I just want to finish all my essays by the end of summer so then all I need to worry about are LOR and the September ACT. I just want to finish everything as soon as possible because I know I won’t want to do it while I’m taking college courses.

I forgot to tell you all that I was accepted to my first college on Friday (June 23)! They called me and said I should receive my acceptance package today. I am not going to name the college but I will tell you that they have a 60% acceptance rate!!!

Congratulations!!!

@ak2018 @Hamlon Just keep in mind that reddit isn’t just about college admissions. If you have interests in anything else like sciences or space or whatever, reddit is the place for that

I’m excited to be starting up a fundraiser called Doge 4 Family House. Goal is 1,500,000 Dogecoins which is about ~$5,000. It’s going towards an organization called Family House in San Francisco, California that offers families with a child or children being treated for a serious illness at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital a place to stay in San Francisco. You can find the website (which I mostly designed and made along with someone else) on Google if you google: doge4familyhouse. It’ll be the first link

very charity. much wow. such internet.

I’m excited for my first college visit on Friday! (visiting Elmira College to qualify for a huge scholarship I got from there, plus $2,000/yr more for visiting.) Any tips about how to make the most of a college visit?

@Marg532 Pick your tour guide’s brain. Hearing what students have to say about their school feels much more authentic than browsing a college website or brochure. Do some background research and if there’s still any concerns or unanswered questions, write them down and save them for your tour.

I was talking to this girl at work about school and some how AP’s came up and I was like “yeah and with AP scores coming out next week” and it really didn’t hit me until then that next week we’ll have our AP scores. I am kind of anxious because I want that weight lifted off my shoulders even though I have an idea of how I did.

Has any senior portraits/pictures for your school been scheduled yet? They just scheduled mine for the Monday before school.

@madison2000 I just had my senior pictures done yesterday! Our school doesn’t do it, but lets students get pictures taken by studios and independent photographers. I got mine done by an independent photographer just starting out her business and happened to be my sister’s good friend from high school! It was really fun, and I think they’re going to turn out really great.

@marg532 So did you get the official black slip over or black tux pictures or just more casual pictures?

Getting the casual pictures with an independent photographer is a very big deal where I’m from and almost everyone does it. I am debating if I want to do the fall where it’s really pretty out (probably mid October) or if I want to wait until the spring when I have my cap and gown to be able to take pictures with them. Decisions, decisions…

@madison2000 If you’re getting your pictures done at a studio, I believe they should have caps and gowns for you to try on. But I think you should wait until Spring, I know a lot of people hold pennants in their cap and gown pictures with the university they will be attending. I want to do that but I’ll just take more pictures in the spring wearing my university merch.

I scheduled my pictures on August 15 which is the week before I go back to school. I’m taking the traditional yearbook photos with the off the shoulder top, cap and gown, a formal picture with a dress and either a dance picture or something more casual.

God AP tests I wanted to forget about those, maybe I can forget about them if my scores are bad.
I’m doing my own senior pictures because all the places near me what like 200-300 dollars! I have a decent Nikon and my dad has a nice portrait lens and he said he’s actually take them for me.

@Iridescentgaze For my pictures I mean more of what you would see for like engagement photos where they are outside and they are very casual and not really portraits. My school does two portraits fall is the normal of the shoulder top and tuxes and then in the spring before graduation we do formal cap and gown pictures.

Is getting very casual pictures around your hometown popular where y’all are from? Almost everyone at my school and all the surrounding schools do it.

@madison2000 Oh, I misread. Casual photos aren’t super popular where I’m from but I’m noticing an increasing amount of students contacting independent photographers for casual pictures. Not sure where you live, but try doing it both in the fall and spring if the option is open. If not I would go with fall because the scenery will be more beautiful.
