I understand how frustrated you must feel. Have you considered working while in college?
@minimango I have been expecting to do that, but depending on where I go, I have no idea how much I would be making and whether or not I would have enough time to work enough to make a significant dent in my payments. Something that will definitely help me is working full time each summer and hopefully racking up a decent amount in order to pay. I expect that I will be staying home for winter and spring breaks too, in which case I will be working (my job at home is at my ex-uncle’s grocery store (long story haha), so I could pretty much call him 2 weeks before coming home and have him put me on the schedule for a week or so)
Update: Just checked out the letter detailing my academic scholarship, and it looks like they upped how much the scholarship was worth, and I was confused about the semester worth vs the original year’s worth. For the year it used to be 19000, but now it is 22000. Soooo even with that I still can’t afford it. Might have to look into a financial aid appeal.
@Marg532 one thing you can do is a financial aide appeal. Each college might have their own system. The admissions rep at the schools should be able to give you information on how to go about that and who to send it to. If your not able to call yourself, your school guidance counselor may be willing to get the information for you. There are no guarantees that it will help but it may be worth trying and it is something that is common. Each school may have their own timeframe so I would do it sooner rather than later. Good luck.
@Marg532 I’m so sorry that you are going through that situation. I will try my best to find some scholarships that you can apply to.
Also, could we help each other out by finding scholarship links?
@Marg532 oh no :(( that sounds really bad. I would suggest looking for scholarships that give out any amount of cash prize, because altogether it can help out quite a bit. Most deadlines for scholarships havent passed yet so you should definitely check that out
Good luck
@Barekk Yes, I applied for financial aid.

material*
@katebnotkatie Woo congrats!!! I got in EAI. Which major did you apply for? Also, if you want to join our “WPI Class of 2022” GroupMe hit me up. The link is on the FB page but I think it’s buried under a bunch of other posts at this point. We have like a million group chats going (including a meme group chat lol).
Got into Maryland Institute College of the Arts!! My admissions counselor gave me a personal note about my portfolio and everything, it was so cute
We have senior celebrity night at the beginning of March at my school (which is sort of like senior superlatives), so we got the nomination ballots today. I was really excited because there were a bunch in the past I wanted – and I was gunning for “Most Likely to Write the Next Great American Novel.”
But our choices this year are the worst categories possible, and they’re designed so that the popular kids walk away with everything. Most categories are like, “Best Smile,” “Best Hair,” “Best Eyes,” “Best Style,” etc., because the senior council is filled with the popular kids (naturally) and they want to win the most. The only awards for the more academic kids are Most Likely to Be President and Teacher’s Pet… the second of which is literally an insult.
I know this is really petty, but I’m so disappointed. Last year they had things like “Ms. [School Name],” for a student who was heavily involved in extracurricular leadership and “Most Likely to Solve the Greenhouse effect” for a student who was devoted to science. I was looking forward to that senior event, but now I don’t want to be involved with it at all.
@writergirl0316 wow, that’s stupid that they changed that. Those sound like really fun categories! I didn’t even bother to vote for senior superlatives because we had the typical boring categories (as always). We even had best car. Like, that’s basically a “who’s parents are rich?” category. If we had better ones, I probably would’ve voted.
I won “Most Likely to Suceed” for the girls and I think it’s hilarious because for one I got deferred from my ED school and also I have literally the worst case of senioritis lol. The valedictorian won for the guys and he was deferred from MIT so really the category should be renamed “Most Likely to Be Deferred” :)).
Lol I also could’ve been in the “Most Likely to be Deferred” category, but “Most Likely to Succeed” is another glaringly obvious one they missed. @sciencenerd123
I won most likely to succeed for girls which is a bit ironic to me because I’m at the point where I’m turning in essays a week after the due date and I can barely get out of bed and the only school that I’ve gotten into is my safety and they haven’t even notified me of getting a merit scholarship or getting into the honors program. But apparently my reputation is just that much better than me lol
My school doesn’t do superlatives, which I kinda like tbh.
We don’t do them either
