High School Class of 2018

I went 3/11. Not the greatest result but I really shot high. I will be attending the University of Maine Honors College in the fall with a major in physics and double minor in math and astronomy! I also hope to get my teaching certification to teach high school math and science!

Oh, I also got the Top Scholars Program scholarship at the Maine State Science Fair last weekend which is full tuition and fees, $500 a year for research and scholarly purposes, admission to the Honors College (which I already had), and a match with a faculty mentor right from the get-go. Made it so I can live on campus and still graduate with minimal debt! It definitely made going to UMaine a really good idea.

I was 6.5/7 (waitlist = .5) but I don’t think my list was super crazy.

8.5/10 if we’re counting waitlists as .5 :)) waitlisted at Case Western Reserve and denied at Notre Dame. But I will be a very happy General at Washington and Lee next year so it all worked out!

If we’re counting waitlists as .5, then 13.5 (12 acceptances 3 waitlists 1 rejection)

5/10. Rejected at Harvard, Princeton, and Dartmouth. Waitlisted at Yale and MIT. Accepted at U of Nevada-Reno, U of ID, Colorado School of Mines, BU, and Syracuse. I’m choosing UNR. #IRunWithThePack

I went 9/9! But I also had like 5 safeties. I’ve already submitted my enrollment deposit to USC. I got bumped down from full tuition to half, but the communications/journalism school gave me an extra scholarship to cover the rest of tuition. My dream school is completely affordable!

I got into BU, Syracuse, and Lehigh also (my match/reach schools). None of them gave me merit. I was surprised that I got into the Bandier program at Syracuse though. It’s an amazing program, but I got 0 financial aid and my heart is with USC. Fight on!

@carmen00 Congrats! I’m so happy for you! USC is great!

10/17  9 acceptances, 2 waitlists, and 6 rejections. Out of all the schools that accepted me for engineering, my favorites are UCI, RPI, and NYU. I’ll likely be going to UCI

10/13  rejected from RISD, CalArts, and USC. That’s okay though! Accepted to a bunch of other schools and will likely be attending Pratt, SVA, or Ringling CA in the fall!

I officially committed to Worcester Politechnic Institute last night! Good luck everyone!

5/8, 5 acceptances, 2 waitlists (my top two schools which was probably the hardest thing I had to go through), 1 rejection (from Duke which I 110% expected from the start and wouldn’t have even thought about going if I got in but just wanted to shoot my shot). I am 99% sure that I will be attending the University of South Carolina in the fall and I am so excited. I received an $80,000+ scholarship because I am a Capstone Scholar. I’m visiting on Friday and Saturday and hopefully when I get home Saturday night I will be able to officially commit.

Over the course of this time I have visited 13 schools and it seems that they all eventually start to look the same but I got some advice over the weekend from a freshman at one of the schools that I was looking at… Don’t look at the physical appearance of the school but see what it offers and if it is the best fit for you. I feel that USC is the perfect school for me. It’s an SEC school, big, has a major that I’m interested in, decently close, but not too close, to home.

I know that everything works out in the end the way it’s supposed to. I’m glad I didn’t get into my number one school because I would have not been able to afford it and that would’ve probably been harder to hear than not getting in at all. Looking back to August or even two months ago I never thought I would be attending USC but I cannot wait until move in day. Only about 50 or so days until graduation. Lets go Gamecocks!!

Guys I just found out that my dog has a tumor and how am I suppOSED TO GO TO COLLEGE WHEN SHE NEEDS ME

I’m devastated :((

@ski_racer oh my gosh that’s awful. I hope your dog is okay

Enrolling in college is such a surreal experience. Applications made me realize how close college actually is, but enrolling is like…wow, this is really happening. It’s official. I paid OSU’s acceptance fee a few days ago, and now I’m researching housing. I got so excited as a freshman/sophomore looking online at residence halls for schools I was interested in, and now I’m actually preparing to move into one. It seemed so far away at the time and now here I am, partially feeling like I’m not even ready for this yet and almost wishing I could wait just one more year. It’s like it’s just now hitting me that this is the beginning of adulthood, and I’m beyond excited but also kinda terrified. Any other seniors feeling the same way?

I’m 6/6, with my top two being SUNY Geneseo (pretty cheap, close to home, visiting on Thursday) and Emerson College (haven’t gotten my financial aid packet yet, dream school in dream city).

However, I have a dilemma. I’m very into winterguard, and if I stay home and go to Geneseo I have the opportunity to audition for the Gates Chili Independent winterguard with two of my friends, and if I don’t get into that I still have my college’s senior winterguard I could join. If I go to Boston, I can’t do that. It’s an amazing opportunity to do Gates, and Geneseo is a great and affordable college, but I’m worried I might miss out on great networking opportunities and study abroad options if I don’t go to Emerson.

Sorry for the ramble, I just needed to get it out somewhere.

Deciding on either Rutgers, Seton Hall, or Loyola Maryland.

Financial Aid: Rutgers-19K; Seton Hall- 21K; Loyola Maryland- 45K, but gave me federal direct plus loan(covers the full cost of attendance)

Major: Biology- Pre Med

Additional Info: All three of them have a good amount of pre-med opportunities and I wanted to get close or in a city.

4/4! Stanford, Yale, Columbia, and UGA! I’m honestly so so happy and so shocked at how well my application season went, and I’m gonna have such a hard time picking in these next few months! I’m trying decide between Stanford (which has been my “dream” school since 8th grade) and Yale (which I have found in the last few months fits me wayyy better, besides the weather). I’m honestly so 50/50 right now! Hopefully I get that “feeling” that leads me to finally decide on one.

@neonerudite Are you going to the accepted student days? I think that’ll help a lot. Also think of which school is better for you and your short- and long-term goals. Good luck! You have a tough decision to make!

The amount of Yale-Stanford cross-admits is crazy! I had my regional Stanford admitted student reception and there were so many people choosing between the same two. I’d love to talk about the factors you’re considering, but I’ll see you at Bulldog Days/Stanford’s weekend.
