High School Class of 2020

@twixster do what u would enjoy more :slight_smile:

@Foreboding dear god, i hope that all of those APs won’t kill u

We have our IB meetings sometime in the next month, so right now I’m thinking:

IB English 11
IB History 11
IB Theory of Knowledge
IB World Religions
IB Chem (2 credits)
AP Calc BC
Spanish 4

I have a question about the AP classes I’m going to take for junior year:

My high school has recently started offering the AP Capstone program, and I feel like I would enjoy the classes. However, that would result in me taking 6 AP classes in my junior year, and I’m not sure if I will be able to handle it.

Here is some context: This year I have a high A (95+) in every class (all honors/accelerated, one AP) except Pre-Calc, in which I have a 92. I only took one AP class (AP World History) this year due to band and engineering. Last year, I took AP Human Geography (which I know is an easy AP class) and received a 5 on the exam. I personally feel like every class this year except math is unchallenging, and English is my strongest subject, in my opinion.

If I took AP Seminar in 11th grade, my schedule would be as follows:
AP Lang
AP Calc AB/BC (block)
AP Chem
AP U.S. History
AP Seminar
Band

If I end up deciding not to take AP Seminar, I would take the next engineering course instead.

So, my question is would I be able to handle 6 AP classes and would you recommend that I take the AP Capstone program? Would I even be able to handle 5 AP classes?

The original question is on my profile, but I have not received any answers as of now, so I decided to post it here.

@confusedtryhard Taking 6 AP classes isn’t impossible in of itself, and many people don’t even find it challenging whereas others do. However, the jump from 1 AP class to 6 is quite a dramatic one — not to mention that AP Calc AB/BC double-blocked (a class I’m taking this year) is generally known for its impressive workload. APUSH is also one of the most difficult AP exams, and AP Chem covers an extensive stretch of information.

Now, I won’t presume to know more about your capabilities as you do, or know the teachers and how they assign things. I will, however, advise you to exercise caution. I’m not sure jumping into 6 APs, two of them considered to be some of the most challenging AP courses, would be wise.

I personally would recommend against it. Four? Maybe. Three? Go for it. But six? I’m not sure.

@confusedtryhard ap lang i hear is easy if you’re decent at english/writing, chem is extremely hard, apush it depends on the person

Ya know what

@confusedtryhard

Go for it dude, life is short, AP chem may be a little tough, but it’s fun. Do it man

AP Calc BC is honestly pretty easy. Chem really isn’t hard if you simply do practice problems, and APUSH is just work heavy.

Sorry if I’m late but am I the only one getting these crummy, and scammy college emails? They are like, get my guide on the 6 Tips for College Selection and are like, ā€œCongrats for your high score!ā€

It’s from B and C quality schools. Nowhere that good.

@hhs12 you’re not the only one. I’ve gotten a few from more prestigious schools too, though. By this point, I’m sooo tired of these scammy emails! It’s funny how a lot of them ā€œofferā€ the 6 Tips guide.

@HS student which prestigious schools, if you don’t mind me asking

@memeqween101 Nothing in the top 10 obviously, but I’m gotten emails from Rice and Boston University. BU isn’t in the top 20, but I’d say it’s something. Both Rice’s and BU’s emails actually looked well-done, unlike many of the others.
I’m just tired of the emails in general, haha.

@memeqween101 @HS student I’ve gotten the emails from Rice and BU as well, plus Duke, Reed, Case Western, and Grinnell. Also no Ivies or other super elite schools but mildly surprising. I’m also tired of it. My patience just about ran out when I started getting a second, identical email to the one I’d already gotten from schools like Brandeis and Northern Arizona University.

I’m taking:
Ap Calc BC
AP Stats
Spanish 3
APUSH
Physics
British Literature

Quick question here, what is the most APs one could realistically take at your schools? For my high school, the most rigorous schedule is 5 APs for junior year and 6 for senior if you don’t take an elective.

@Max147

There really is no max at our school. I guess the max is the max amount of classes your allowed to take I guess, which at my school is 7.

I know some juniors in 6, it really depends on the person

@Microsoft_Ninja, we have 7 classes too but there’s requirements for how many classes we have to take in each subject to graduate.

@ltwixster Duke is ā€œsuper eliteā€ by any objective metric.

@Max147

yeah I know, in fact it’s the same across the U.S (mostly). However, most people at my school take 4 years of math, science, history, and english anyway, even though only 3 are required for math and science
