Advice for getting ECs sorted out? I have so much I want to, but scheduling pick ups and drop offs interferes with this. Also, some of you all are so lucky your schools offer so many APs as Juniors, my school is an absolute mess when it comes to APs with only a few to offer and having dumb requirements to take them or messing up with scheduling for them.
We’re sophomores
So am I…?
You said something about juniors though lol
@Microsoft_Ninja Oh I was referring to the people scheduling for Junior year and lots of APs are available for them that year meanwhile my school barely offers APs
Hey sophomores! The free CMU Artificial Intelligence program application, for rising juniors and seniors, is up! Go ahead and apply here: https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/access-artificial-intelligence
Class schedule (enrolled in International Baccalaureate program - still in Pre-Diploma 10 though)

Any other IB students out there? Give me a holla!
@“becoming.atlas” I’m not an IB student, so I apologize, but your schedule looks awesome! Best of luck!
Have a good day!
@“becoming.atlas” My school has IB so I know that schedule looks great. The course names are different, though. Good luck!
Is anyone taken the AMC 10 or 12 this year?
I’m doing the AMC 10 this year.
Hey guys so I was wondering if my junior year schedule is rigorous enough for top schools. I know it’s nothing compared to most of your guys schedule, but it’s the hardest one for juniors at mine.
AP Bio
AP French Langauge
Honors precalculus BC
Honors Statistics
English 11
US History
Biology
@collegeready33 Is there anyway you could self-study some extra stats on top of your honors course to take the AP Stats exam? Colleges look at your schedule in the context of what is offered at your school, but self-studying an AP would probably help.
@trumpetmathgeek I’ll look into that thanks!
Hey guys, been a while since I posted here!
I have my schedule for junior year planned: noncompetitive HS, taking most rigorous courses offered.
AP English 11
AP Chemistry
AP Physics 1 (joke class with terrible teacher, and only year of AP Physics offered)
AP US History
DC Trig/DC College Algebra (basically dumbed down precalc, but recommended prereq for AP Calc as a senior)
Honors French III
Band
I can technically skip Trig/College Algebra because of my ACT score, but I would have no math class to take as a senior. My school is phasing out IB and phasing in AP and so this is kind of a terrible transition year
Does anyone else’s school only single accelerate in math? It seems like it makes me uncompetitive for engineering for something out of my control.
@cherryturtle My school also only accelerates one year in math. It’s a non-competitive public high school, but I went to a pretty competitive middle school that accelerated two years. I started in algebra 2 as a freshman. We only have AP calc AB, so I’ll take that next year, and go to my local community college for a second year of calc senior year.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to manage that situation better? We don’t have any honors math and the only AP is calc ab… Pretty frustrated with my lack of options because I’m prepared for more. Online isn’t an option for me either.
@ltwixster There are three kids in my grade who are double accelerated because they were in a special circumstance program in elementary school. They used to be accommodated by taking Trig/College Algebra as sophomores and then IB Math HL, and they would just have the first semester of Math HL as review while people who entered with Algebra II were learning new content. Now, they’re just screwed, and since we don’t have a community college they’re having kids take the “lower tier” post Algebra II option as sophomores before rejoining the regular honors track.
My school’s senior option is also AP Calc AB so I relate. They’re not interested in adding BC as a Math HL replacement so it’s just kinda bad in general. At least if your school had BC you could take AB one year and BC the next
I also go to an uncompetitive high school that typically doesn’t double accelerate (I was pushed up a grade in math to algebra 1 in grade 7, and one other kid doubled up with geometry and algebra 2 freshman year). My school only goes up to AP Calc AB, so I’ll take that junior year and do either AP Stats or Calc BC online senior year. I’ve been using VHS Course Collaborative for all of my online courses (Geometry, Honors Comp Sci, AP Macro/Micro). Courses typically cost $450 a semester, but school districts are sometimes willing to cover some, if not all, of the cost, assuming they cannot offer that course. Next year I’ll be taking AP Chem online because my school doesn’t offer it. Many people on college confidential go to exceedingly competitive high schools, so its easy to feel frustrated when your school simply doesn’t offer all of the same opportunities. Don’t feel discouraged, do what you can, whether that be self-studying AP’s, taking online courses, pursuing dual enrollment, or just acing the courses that actually are offered by your high school.
@trumpetmathgeek AP Chem online sounds incredibly difficult, considering that the class normally has a heavy lab requirement. My school usually requires two years of chemistry as a prereq to AP Chem but some of us that have high grades in Honors Chemistry 1 are skipping Honors Chemistry 2. The only online class my district offers is summer school personal finance to fill a graduation requirement.
Did anyone else apply to their state’s governor’s school? I did and I don’t hear back until April which is super stressful!
@cherryturtle The AP Chem I will be taking online is interesting because it appears that they actually send you a lab kit in order to complete labs recommended by College Board.
