High School Class of 2020

I probably won’t know my full schedule until May :(( :-w

Hey y’all, don’t worry about going to a non-competitive high school. Colleges are fairly well-versed in these kinds of disparities between schools – not to mention that they’ll have to look at your school profile along with your application, so you’re not going to look worse off because of something out of your control!

Labs are my favorite part of AP Chem. The rest of the class is pretty boring imo.

@ltwixster Not taking BC Calc won’t matter so much for when you apply to college. Colleges only care that you take the hardest courses offered and you challenge yourself. It only really matters when you are placing into freshman math.

Thoughts on this schedule for Junior year:

APUSH
AP Lang
AP Chem
Honors Precalc
AP Marcoecon
Marketing
Photography

@Max147 It’s not so much about admissions and more just a frustrating trend at my school. I’m not very challenged and most of my peers aren’t very motivated. Because I’m two years ahead in math this year I ended up in a precalc class with seniors. They couldn’t care less, and it’s just hard to sit through. I’m not really too worried about college at the moment because I’ve got a good GPA and great PSAT score, which is hopefully a good indication for next year, and I’m pushing the limits of my school’s curriculum. That said, I’m really just bored and feel out of place. Most kids in my area who are really motivated and interested in school go to privates.

What are your guys ecs?

Mine are debate team captain, diversity committee head, pianist, varsity track and field, varsity tennis, programmer, founder/editor in chief of a scientific magazine, marketing intern, blogger for women interested in STEM, teachers assistant at my church preschool program. I do a lot of stuff, but I’m interested in STEM and business which isn’t well reflected and they definitely aren’t as good as most of your guys ecs haha.

@collegeready33 I do mock trial, FBLA (leadership this year, probably pres next year because all of the other leaders are seniors), and a whole bunch of musical activities: my school’s concert band, wind ensemble, and brass choir, a competitive youth orchestra in a nearby city (lots of college kids/music majors in the winds and brass), brass band, and I spend some time volunteering with my community band (mentoring elementary students in the summer, playing concerts at retirement homes, etc). A lot of my time is spent on AP coursework and I know I lack being “well rounded”.

What AP exams are you guys taking this May? I’m self-studying psych and I’m taking macro and micro because of my online course. It feels crazy that it’s almost March… lol this year is going by quickly.

@trumpetmathgeek I’ll be taking the AP Bio exam in may, that’s it.

Don’t worry too much about being well rounded, because that’s not actually what colleges want to see. Be really good at what you’re good at and enjoy doing and you will be more than fine.

Anyone else just about done with this school year? I am so ready for it to be over. Been on this thread from pretty much the beginning of the year, and we only have two and a half months left (not including AP exams). Anyways, here’s my schedule:

APUSH
AP Lang
AP Stats
AP Environ.
Honors Precalc
Honors German IV
Chemistry

@firefly3141 It looks awesome! Good luck!

@ab2002 Great schedule! I’m done with it too. I’m really looking forward to my summer swim because I have a lot of great friends there. I’m happy you’re almost done with school, but we have four months till the year ends.

@trumpetmathgeek I’m just taking the AP World Exam in May. Good luck in Psychology and Econ!

Have a good day!

Lmao I am so pumped for the AP Psych exam. I am more than sure I am getting a 4/5 on the exam. AP Euro is a bit questionable. I am honestly just hoping for a 4 at this point.

I’m self-studying AP Psych and AP Envisci

Rather interested in how well I’ll do

Good luck to y’all and your AP exams! For my part, I’m taking APUSH and AP Calc BC — I’m hoping that I’ll do well, but we’ll see.

Do you think this is a good schedule for somebody who wants to go to USC, and major in economics with a theatre minor? (Junior year next year)
AP Stat
AP Us history
AP Gov
IB SL theatre
Honors Biology 2
AP Biology
Honors Business Law
Study hall

My school doesn’t have any AP economic classes. Also I got all A”s last year and have 2 AP classes (Euro and World) and I have A”s in both of those and every other classe except Honors Chemistry where I have a B+ that I am hoping to get to an A.

@ManOfGod Looks pretty good to me

@ManOfGod It does look good. Taking IB Theatre shows you’re invested in it; good for you!

@trumpetmathgeek I’m taking the AP Comp Sci Principles exam in May. We start performance tasks in a couple of weeks, so those are coming up very soon. It’ll be my first AP exam/performance tasks so I’m not quite sure what to expect, but my teacher is an AP CSP mentor to other teachers and she’s been teaching computer science for years, so I definitely feel more prepared with her than if I had another teacher.

It’s been a couple months since I’ve been on here. It was a much needed break to be honest, but I decided to drop by and see how things are going. So, how have all your classes been going?

I’ve been doing okay. I have all As except for an A- in PLTW Human Body Systems, which, I know, I know, is really good, but HBS is the class I put the most time and effort into but every little thing seems to dock my grade a good deal. I’m very close to an A+ in world history, but I don’t want to get my hopes up too much…

As for next year’s classes, I tried signing up for AP Lang, which for some reason is listed as a semester course at my school, and they won’t let me because when my guidance counselor checked, there were SIX PEOPLE signed up for AP Lang in the entire school. This is what happens when the teachers basically tell us, “This class never happens. We don’t know what it’s like. Take AP Lit instead,” so they don’t publicize and so no one takes it… 7 people (including me) is too few for the class to happen at all, so they’re making the other 6 people who signed up choose other classes instead. Also, they’re offering a new dual-credit American History class next year (I started a thread about that, but there aren’t any responses so far), so now I have the choice between that and AP. I’m not sure which would be better.

Anyway, that’s what’s going on for me. How are you all doing?

Hey guys! I’m just joining this but honestly for me sophomore year has been so tiring. But anyways here is my schedule for next year:

IB Biology HL
IB English HL
IB History HL
IB Music HL
IB Math SL
IB Spanish Ab Intio SL
Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
Theology III (I go to catholic school)

Side note: I’m really scared of doing full IB diploma ugh
