High School Class of 2020

I got in a major car accident yesterday. We got hit by a semi, and I honestly thank G-d for saving me. If it was one second before, I would have died. The truck flipped, knocked out two lamp posts, took a chunk out of the median, and destroyed the entire right side of our car. I’m just happy to be okay.

@ab2002 glad you’re okay, I hope nobody else got hurt

Hey class of 2020, who’s planning on applying to Ivies? If so, mind sharing stats?

@ab2002 woah that’s intense, glad to see you’re still here! Did you suffer any injuries?

@nvb123 I plan to apply to the ivies! My top choice rn is penn.

@collegeready33 Hey! Same, I love Penn sm, I want to do the LSM program!

@nvb123 Cool! Right now I’m really into applying to SEAS.

@collegeready99 Nice! Mind if I ask your stats?

@nvb123 I made a post earlier this year you can check my post history for it

@nvb123 I’m gonna apply to a lot of reaches. Based on my school’s acceptance history, everything is either a reach or a safety. My list will probably include Brown, Penn, and Harvard. My stats are: 35 or 36 ACT based on practice tests and my PSAT score. 4.12/4.5 GPA. Class rank is about 5 to 10/300 at a competitive public high school where about 25 kids go to top 20 universities or top 10 liberal arts schools. My main ECs are lifting, football, saxophone, volunteering at a hospital. I’m working at a summer camp this summer and I hope I can do some biotech research next summer. SAT II: Math 2 800, Chem probably like 770, Bio 800. APs: Self studied bio should be a 5, gonna take US History, Chem, BC junior year. Econ, Stats, Physics, Psych, Spanish senior year. Should get probably 5s on maybe 5 or 6 on future APs based on my grades in those subjects right nowadays how my older friends have done and the rest should be fours if everything goes well. My backround is 200k+, Asian, and from the Northeast.

@Max147 that’s lit man. Your grades and test scores are great, you look on track for great stuff. Just hope being asian doesn’t pull us down… btw do you think a 35 ACT is good enough? I got that on my first one and I am not sure if I should retake.

Is it just me or is it that our class is one of the more competitive/smarter classes in recent years? Thoughts?

@Jay16K Possibly… I feel like every year everyone is getting smarter and more competitive. The numbers support this too, since there’s more and more people applying to top universities every single year…

@ab2002: I’m really happy you’re okay! Wishing a speedy recovery to anyone who got injured (if there were any).

@nvb123: I’m planning on applying to Harvard (as well as Stanford)! With campus tours and stuff, we’ll see how I like Columbia, Princeton, and Cornell. My stats are 4.0 GPA UW, 36 GPA, SAT IIs tba, our school doesn’t weight.

APs already taken: Human Geo, USH, Calc BC
APs to be taken: Bio, Chem, Psych, US Gov, Lang, Lit, Stats, Environmental Science, Art History (we’ll see if I take more)
IB classes to be taken: IB Euro SL, IB Spanish SL, IB Math SL, IB English HL, IB Biology HL, IB Psychology HL

Extracurriculars: I’ve shadowed a sarcoma surgeon, volunteered at a library, organized a food drive at my local temple, volunteered at a hospital, and I plan to volunteer at an orthopedics hospital, the state university hospital, and get an internship at a cost-free hospital meant to provide medical attention to the impoverished. I’m super involved in debate (state runner-up, 3x national qualifier, NSDA breaker, captain for next year) and HOSA (5th at state competition, vice president for next year). Attending TASS at Cornell this summer, and I’ll continue applying to summer programs that catch my eye. I also want to get a publishing deal before graduation, but we’ll see about that lol

Other: Family income below the poverty line, Asian, female, planned double major in biology and political science, fairly underrepresented state.

@phanakin Cool cool! Your double major seems quite relevant based off your ECs, and your test scores/GPA are incredible, perfect for such good universities.

BTW, to everyone on this discussion, I am planning on expanding my networking company to a tech/biotech focused high school consulting firm for startups, and I am seeking to build a team of highly qualified young entrepreneurial minded individuals! Something like creating a board of high school age directors to help expand the organization and make greater impact. Please PM me or message me in this discussion if you are interested in working with me on something like this! I would love to get on a call with any of you to discuss opportunities. Ideally, having a diverse group of highly ambitious directors from across the US/world (and with varying skillsets) is the goal!

@nvb123 35 is good enough, unless you strongly feel you can get a perfect I wouldn’t retake it. 35 is the 75th percentile of accepted students at any top college. And I’d need more information about your organization but I am definitely interested.

@Jay16K It seems like it’s getting harder to apply to top colleges but it’s all a numbers game that colleges play to increase rankings and stuff like that. It’s a very long explanation but just know the number of spots at top colleges is growing faster than the number of top students.

@phanakin I think you’re definitely one of the most competitive applicants I’ve ever seen. Great numbers, and two clear focuses which you’ve invested yourself deeply in. And that is a crazy long list of APs and IBs. I’d be shocked if you didn’t get into one of your top choices.

@nvb123 I would definitely be interested in ur organization, but I need more info thx

@dreamer1518 great, thanks! Can I get some of your stats, ECs, and connections?
