I know how I feel at 62, with declines in body and mind compared to how I was, even five years ago. I wish the presidential rules had an upper age limit rather than the lower. I look at myself and many of my colleagues and we accomplished a lot more when we were younger. I remember seeing 25 as the limit for one of the DC jobs (I forget congress or senate or something similar), which I can empathize with, but I think 35 for president is too old. I’d say topping out at 65 makes more sense.
^The Canadians got it right! Trudeau is 43.
Just think how old the SCOTUS justices are…

Over their dead bodies “topping at 65” will become the law.
I once watched a show on the TV in which Ms. Clinton’s daughter was interviewing her. Ms. Clinton really lets her guard down during this interview. The full trust between a mother and her daughter really showed. It was like a typical mother-daughter chat. (Not a teenager daughter though. LOL.)
I found it is somewhat amusing that Trump accused Jeb Bush of being “lack energy.” Maybe the latter does not have the habit of taking a nap in the afternoon like G. W. Bush. I heard (not sure if it is true) that whenever it was possible, G.W. Bush always wanted to go back home to sleep on his own bed when he was a President. He is definitely unlike his father who was rumored to be workaholic. Hey, we only wanted the workaholic one to be a one-term President but wanted the non-workaholic one to be a two-term one. Also, the father was a super achiever while at Yale, but the son did not “shine” as much as an UG at the same school. Since this is CC: this actually shows that the achievement while being a student matters very little for someone eventually “reaching the top” in his life and some other personal characteristics may matter more. (Not intend to be political here. Just an observation only.)
Donald Trump is constantly attacking the looks of women who do not support him. And sometimes viciously so. Yet not one woman has said in response that he is not exactly the “perfect 10.” Even Heidi Klum who would have had more than good standing to do so. Why is that? When it comes to that level of dealing, women should fight fire with fire.
There’s nothing wrong with taking naps in the afternoon; I approve of the practice for people of all ages and occupations, whenever it’s possible!
The women have too much class to engage in that game.
HarvestMoon, maybe they just don’t want to waste their time stating the obvious?
I don’t think Hillary looks like she’s had work done, but I think Fiorina does. There’s just this shiny, pulled look to her … like a Real Housewife of Somewhere. Hillary, no doubt, does benefit from all kinds of perks – hairdresser, makeup artist, personal shopper, stylist. Or at least I’d hire all those people if I were in her position, along with a personal trainer and chef!!!
If he’s wealthy enough, a man’s looks don’t matter at all, in any context. (See the news story the other day about Jerry Hall supposedly now being in relationship with the very attractive octogenarian Rupert Murdoch.) Even in a law office, as I really started to notice after I transitioned ten years ago, female lawyers are expected to look polished and wear well-tailored clothing all the time, whereas male lawyers can get away with slouching around looking like slobs, with wrinkled khakis and dirty shoes and half-untucked shirts with frayed collars and cuffs.
Of course Hillary has a personal shopper. Can you imagine her flipping through the racks at Nordstrom? I’m sure that a few times a year she makes a call and someone comes to her house with a bunch of things for her to consider. Given that she’s always wearing top-quality, professional outfits, I imagine the incremental cost for her to do this is not a concern.
Agreed and that would be my first thought. But then I am thinking that no one has yet pointed that fact out to him. You know the “emperor and his clothes…”
I disagree; I don’t think anyone he attacks should descend to his level. I thought Carly Fiorina had it exactly right when he first insulted her looks, then tried to backpedal by pretending he wasn’t insulting her looks. “I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said,” she said coolly, and then stopped talking.
Hillary doesn’t look like she’s had botox. Fiorina has a mouth that looks like she’s had some but maybe that’s just how her mouth goes. I live in a place where a lot of people have had work done or injections of one kind and another and there is a mouth thing that doesn’t happen in nature.
Still reading through the thread but not having to worry about other things in life also helps. Hillary doesn’t have to grocery shop or fill the tank or get oil changes or clean the bathroom. She has incredible stamina for her work and the luxury of focusing on work.
Carly Fiorina’s response to DT was perfect. But others have either simply not responded at all or said something ineffective.
Trump once said in an interview that his hair looks the way it does because he wants to be memorable. It’s a business/PR strategy thing. His hair, while terrible looking, is something that creates a lot of chatter in the media, and that’s what he wants.
She is 68 years old today. Happy birthday, Hilary.
I agree that Carly Fiorina’s response to Trump’s comment about her face was absolutely perfect. And he knew it, too.
Someone posted on my Facebook feed a comparison of Trump complaining about a three-hour debate and demanding only a two-hour debate, while Clinton faced questions from the Congressional Committee for 11 hours. (Not political! Just funny!!)
I agree that I’m not in love with the idea that our choices for president are over retirement age. When did the Democrats become the old white party?
I have no issues with naps, my hubby takes a 15 to 20 minute nap around 2 every day. If I did it I’d sleep for hours and be groggy all afternoon, he pops back up and is hard charging the rest of the day.
I take the stress of grocery shopping and putting gas in my car over the stress of running for president any day of the week. I made it this long choosing my clothes, and doing my own hair and makeup, people probably wouldn’t recognize me if I looked pulled together all the time. All I think is, don’t they want to get on comfy clothes and put their hair in a ponytail some days?
