Hey guys,
I’m new to the site and have flipped through the (many!) pages of this topic. Wish I’d stumbled upon this before but oh…

Anyway, I’m going to HKU this fall and I’m an international student. Didn’t find it particularly complicated to apply and got my offer of admission beginning of April.

I was wondering if anyone else is going to HKU and how they’re thinking when they’re going to apply for Hall accommodation (which hall and such, particularly international s’s). I’m finding it kind of confusing myself, haha.

thanks for your reply, well, hopefully, they are still considering me, it’s just the fact that i saw people applying for IBGM got interviews, but i didn’t, therefore, i am a bit worried.
i sent them 2 e-mails regarding to my application, i told them whether they could tell me the result before May cause i needed to reply for other universities and they didn’t relpy at all, obviously, today is the last day of April…:(

hi luce, i am going to hku this fall too… international student… i have got my offer for about a month now but i am still undecided on the hall accomodation problem… havent applied and dont know which to apply… so yea same problem here…

um goin to HKU this fall too, um an international student, was accepted in Econ nd Finance major. I did do a lot of research but still cudnt figure out in which hall to apply. I assume all of us have the same problem!

Does anyone know when is the deadline for HKU to give out decisions for international student? i went on their website and they said late August,is that true?

@Cherry1 - I know a girl who got into the HKU IBGM programe, and she got notified in the beginning of August. I think she had the interview near the end of June

I was actually looking at those three too, because they seem to have the most international and modern facilities as well as some pretty cool and diverse cultural activities (specially Suen Chi Sun). But I don’t know…

How come you’re thinking of those? (:

What are you all studying over there? I’m doing Bachelor of Journalism, really excited about it! ^^

@LuceViktoria - I’m considering those halls for the same reasons: newest and most international! And there seems to be a lot of activities and teams you can join.

Im doing a Bachelor of Arts, but originally, I was actually going to pursue a Bachelor of Journalism! (I love to write, and I used to think of being a journalist as the most exciting job in the world:)). I think I’m going to minor in Journalism & Media Studies, maybe I’ll see you then!

Hi all, I wonder anyone applied to HKUST for phD or MPhil in computer science major. I applied on Mar 10 but still didn’t get an offer or reject. Anyone got an offer?

@AlecDluz Yeah, I had a look on the website and what people have been saying about the halls. Seems like hall spirit is really important over there… Where are you from btw? What are you doing your BA in? I had Chinese & Philosophy as runner up for my choice Can’t believe it’s gonna be HK for three years now. We do, in fact, rock! ^^

Hey everyone!
I’ve been trying follow this thread but this is my first post.

To kyubaek90: Hey! I know that there are a few Koreans that have posted here before but I forget who they are except for you because of your nickname.
I’m also Korean and would like to ask you if there’s an online community on one of the Korean sites where members share/post information. Thanks in advance.

And good luck to everyone.
Btw, I haven’t been confirmed to any of my three choices at HKU yet.
I didn’t apply to HKUST cuz I’m not interested in business, management, science, or engineering.

@LuceViktoria - I think that hall spirit is extremely important over there, and that its mandatory to participate in a certain number of activities in order to keep you room (at least for locals, not sure about the rules for non-locals, but I guess they are the same for all full-time students). Im from Norway:) Where are you from? Do you speak any Cantonese? I have not chosen a major yet, but fortunately, you dont declare a major until the end of the first year. Agree, HK for three years is going to be fantastic!

@AlecDluz Yay, fellow Scandy! I’m from Malmö, Sweden. Unfortunately I don’t speak any Cantonese, except for your occasional yap yi sam, some mgoy and sek fan ^^. I lived in Mainland for 7 months up until February this year where I learned some Mandarin and since I lived in Guangdong most of the time I heard some Cantonese. Visited HK a couple of times too, which is why I ended up longing to stay there longer. Canto is quite difficult though =/ Do you speak any?
As for the halls, I think I’m leaning towards the Suen Chi Sun because it’s got the most choices in activities (I’m thinking dance, photography and tv perhaps). Like you say, seems pretty important to take part in those… Thrilling! :)

@LuceViktoria - Scandy? Guess that means you were on a gap year teaching english in China? Just guessing:P I don’t speak any Cantonese, and I have never been to HK, so thats going to be really exciting! As for the halls, I have “considered” all of them now, and I think most of them seem good, so I’m okay with any hall (well, 2 of them I would rather not stay in, but whats the chance of that happening?). If youre into media stuff, Suen Chi seems like a really good choice:)

@alecdluz: you’re the only person I’ve noticed that applied to school of arts.
It’s my first choice also but I haven’t heard from the school yet!
Do you think that because less international students apply,
there’s a greater chance of admission?
