HKU or HKUST

@onepinetree - I think you will definetively hear from them soon. I applied more or less on the deadline (jan. 31), and received the offer around march 22 (no interview). So it seems like they are very efficient:)

Where did you read that few internationals apply for BA?

Anyways, I do think that its easier to get accepted into the BA programme because your an international student, compared to for instance engineering or business, where the number of international applicants surely is higher.

When did you apply? What do you plan to major in?

Nice to see someone else on this thread interested in pursuing a bachelor of arts:D

hey alecdluz: do u mind if I pvt message you?

No, I dont mind, go ahead:)

onepinetree: There’s really limited info in Korea concerning unis in HK. Probably Hackers is

the only good site that deals with HK unis. There’s also DC inside’s Foreign Uni Thread, but

it’s not a really recommended spot to get info about unis cause the credibility (excluding some)

is really low… Anyways, Hackers is among the three sites that I visit to get info

about HK unis. Others are CC and TSR. But I can surely say that CC is the most active

site. TSR’s HKU thread is more or less dead. Hackers is also active, but the credibility isn’t

as much as CC cause anyone (even ppl without an ID) can type replies or threads.

But if you want info concerning HK unis in Korea Hackers is probably the only place to get

good enough info.

But I’m not an expert on foreign unis so my info may not be correct though,

kyubaek90: thanks for this.

are you pretty much set on HKUST?

do you know anyone in Korea who is going to HK for sure?
I’m just wondering if there’ll be a gathering of sorts in Korea before leaving for HK.

onepinetree: I actually had an interview with IBGM and waiting for their e-mail this week.

I’m pretty much stuck between IBGM and Gbus.

There is a Cyworld Club called “HKKUA” that you can go to.

It’s a club dedicated to HK residing Korean University students.

It seems they meet from time to time.

@AlecDluz sorry, slang I picked up for “Scandinavian”. Haha. Actually, quite spot on. Or well, it was my second gap year, and I taught on and off  Wow, that’s a major move you’re doing right there then. Awesome. May I ask what made HK your choice?
Seems like hall accommodation is going to be pretty randomly selected anyway. I guess I’m okay with almost whatever too. Which are those unwanted ones? Can’t wait for summer, sun and going back to sweet Asia…

When is everyone (international students) planning on making their way to HK?

Hello everyone~
I’m also an international student who is going to HKU this coming fall yay!!
I have applied for Journalism and Media and got accepted in late March.
(special hello to LuceViktoria hehe let’s meet at HKU!! )

Well… about the halls… I haven’t made up my mind to choose my first choice of the hall yet. I think hall selection is harder than uni course selection…:(

I’m planning to go to HK in late Aug but I might visit the school in July. not sure yet
Has everyone visited HK before? It’s goin to be my first time to go to HK! I’m very excited about it, can’t wait to Aug :)

@jiceo1, there are always drawbacks for picking one other the other. Both of them are very good schools, tossing a coin is the most fair way decide without having to visit the schools in person. On top of that, you can always blame the coin for your mistakes  (not that there is one).

I just got HKUST’s official acceptance letter few days ago. Is there easier way to decline the offer without having the send the paper back across the globe?

kyubaek90:
It’s funny because I posted quite a few times on more or less all of the online forums/clubs you mentioned! :stuck_out_tongue: I bet I talked to you quite a few times without knowing it.

Oh btw, if people want info about HKUST, now the university is actually officially endorsing the facebook group started by the people from CC, and a number of people have joined since then. So I have a feeling it will be a valuable resource until everyone meets in HK (except we intl students in china have troubles accessing it :().
anyway it was just a reminder!

@Happyanonymous Heeey! Sounds really cool. HK is great, we’re all in for a real treat for three years  Where do you live now?

@exe163 Well I think you automatically decline if you don’t accept. Or well, they take back their admissions offer if you do, usually. Maybe email your contact person, if you got one? :)

chriskim12: We might as well have. But as for Hackers, I don’t visit the site often.

Just to get some info regarding Korean applicants from time to time. It seems that there are

more Korean applicants to HK unis than ever this year…

@LuceViktoria – Reasons for HK? Too many to list! I think we get to select halls because we are full time students (exchange students are randomly placed). I’m going to HK as soon as we are allowed to move into the halls, probably around august 19th. What about you?

Do anyone know when the HKU residential year of 2010/11 starts?

Everyone!! I got an offer from IBGM!!

But since I’m weighing between HKUST Gbus and HKU IBGM, looks like I’m going to in a ****load of thinking

for the upcoming week…

Congrats kyubaek!:D

Congrats kyubaek… ur a HERO :-)

Do you guys think there’s anyone from HKUST’s admission that hangs around here? I’m guessing probably yes ;)

Alecdulz,Muntasir: Thx. But I’m really stuck on which uni to go to…

jiceo1: Why do you say so??

@kyubaek90 I’ll third that, congratulations! Best of luck in whatever choice you make :)

@AlecDluz I think I read somewhere that residential year starts August 21st. Might have been in that guide we got sent home… I’m planning on making my way over some time in early August, perhaps via Beijing to visit some friends first or just hang around Guangdong and do the same before moving in to campus. I hear the week before classes start is pretty intense :D
