HKU or HKUST

That is so cool! Im doing BA too! Wow, its awesome that your going to do BA, because “everybody” on this thread is going to do engineering or business, so cool to see someone else interested in those subjects! Any idea what your going to major in? And if you dont mind telling, what country are you from?

[Note; below about HKU]

Hey everyone, those who are wondering about HALL ORIENTATION CAMP in HKU.
I have to tell you guys something. Usually ORIENTATION CAMP is for LOCALS ONLY. As they are 10-days or a week or something… and during that O’CAMP, seniors will literally TORTURE YOU. They learn a lot about HALL CULTURE, HALL PRIDE, SONGS, CHEERS, ETC. So this O’CAMP thing is ONLY FOR LOCALS (or those who speak CANTONESE). It is very different that what you guys may think DORM life is (like those in American Pie movie stuff) -_-" yup.

So the ORIENTATIONS that YOU SHOULD JOIN is…

 • Non-Local Orientation Day
 • Inauguration (if u want to wear the green robe from HKU) - formal event
 • International Admission department will usually hold event like Beach Party, BBQ, etc for New Non-Local Students. But details will be sent out later.
 • Non-Local Orientation Day (organized by some HALLS), details later, when you get admitted to those halls!

Hall Life… They develop this Hall Pride thing. But that is mostly for LOCALS. For international, they kinda expect you to be involved in one-two SPORTS or CULTURAL activities. You should be involved in one or two, so that you WONT get KICKED OUT for next year. But as we are international students, they will expect LESS from us.

Also, chooose WISELY. Don’t choose those activities that require you to practice at 7AM or stay up till 2AM! Be nice to your floormates/floor rep and warden! LOL. But yeah, most co-ed dorms are very free. So no problem. But outsiders can only stay till mid-night. There are ways to sneak them in. But you gotta learn that later :P

They will have some stupid rules, but yeah ppl don’t usually care about them. No specific rule bout alcohol i think? lol but you will always find some in every floor’s refrigerator! :stuck_out_tongue: and obviously no curfew! :)

LOL, yeah, after all… HK’s unis are famous for those kinds of degrees! But I truly fell in love with HKU’s BA!!! =)
Which country I come from… well, I was born in HK, but since then, I’ve been travelling quite a lot with my family and I actually got my offer through the non-jupas scheme.
I’m thinking about double majoring, one of them will most probably be L&C, how about you?

@ gd2318- Are you sure about the hall orientation camp thingi because i was going through the hall support supplement, where they have clearly mentioned that they highly recommend to join them.

Is anyone still waiting for HKUST’s decision? It’s taking them forever.

(Note: For students going to HKU)

Please join the official HKU website on fb. On the discussion section, i have created a (Fresher’s '10) topic… lets talk there! Um sure we have a lot of things to discuss!

[Welcome to Facebook | Facebook](<a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up)

EliteGeek: Yeah, I’m still waiting too. What major did you apply for? I’m applying as a transfer though, how about you?

sashasss - Im not sure yet. Have you read anything about double majoring? I thought the idea of having a double major was very appealing, but after reading some articles on it, I kinda changed my mind. You should look into it if you havent already:)

AlecDluz - By “some articles”, do you mean those at HKU’s website? If so, I think I’ve pretty much read all of them… What made you change your mind???

@jiceo1 I’m applying for HKUST’s BA. Not as a transfer though and I’ve been told by them that they’ll be sending decisions from mid-April to mid-June for most people. It’s close to mid-June now and I’m still waiting :(.

^ Oh they told you “mid-June.” I was told “early June.” There’s nothing we can do, just gotta have some patience (… *goes off and listens to Patience by Guns n Roses)

I am still waiting for their decision as well, do we still have a chance?
What is the probability? Less than 50%? or less?
Is it ridiculous that international student may wait till late August for their result?

Well, someone told me that they received a record number of international applications this year. On top of that they restructured their admissions. Maybe that’s why it’s been slow.

Yeah they said they had about 9000 international applicants this year, which is why the admission procedure has been pretty slow… Hope to see you get your letters of admission soon! :)

Btw, is anyone else on this forum starting the bachelor of journalism this fall? :)

Is anyone going to study in Bachelor of Medicine in HKU? (2010)

This forum luks dead for a couple of days… so wats new with HKU?

Tradition says…

 1. HKU
 2. CUHK
 3. HKUST

This applies to all majors/departments with the exception of business.

iPacman: so does HKUST and HKU rank first and second in business majors?

HI guys!!
Sup? I am Sonia studying the IB diploma program in high school. This fall, I’ll be a senior, so searching for colleges and unis is an important process for me now although it’s now summer holidays. I am planning to be a medical student although I also love music and arts at the same time. My first choice university is HKU. Does anyone here know what the minimum requirements for HKU medical admissions are and what HKU really looks for in its applicants? I would love to hear your opinions and suggestions.

Thanks.
Sonia
