HKU or HKUST

Nevermind the above post. Just got the hall offer by mail. Got an offer from Suen Chi Sun, which I put as my second choice, so happy I got one of my choices:)

Anyone else going to Suen Chi Sun?

Hmm my offer was confirmed quite a while back…
And I got the hall offer like a week ago.
Doing BBA in Acc n Fin. Oh n starr hall was my second choice hahaha. First choice was st john’s college.

@AlecDluz ooh, I’m going to Suen Chi Sun too, see you there (: I’m hopping off to HK tomorrow actually, but will only be there on Friday to register, then spend a week in Mainland China, then check in with all the others on the 20th (since that’s the earliest possible). When are you going?

It’s so strange to think that it’s all about to start so soon. Wow.

@LuceViktoria - Going 23 (planned to go earlier, but my summerjob kind of kept me for longer than planned). Gonna be exciting. See you there:)

hei all, i am a student from indonesia who takes Australian’s HSC curriculum.
is hkust very selective to accept students? especially in engineering programs?
and also, do they always accept students with good grades? (a bit silly question)

As someone who has lived in HKUST for over 15 years (family of faculty), I have to say that HKU is significantly better than UST in most aspects. Unless you’re considering business, finance, accounting or a certain reputable program in science-engineering, there’s very little reason to choose UST. We have mediocre teachers in many humanities courses, an unresponsive administration, and an extremely irritating student body. More determined students tend to go to HKU or CUHK, leaving the party types to UST. We do have a large number of extremely talented students from mainland China, but they tend to stick to themselves and are not good at adapting to the local lifestyle here.

The campus is beautiful, but then it is located too far from from Yau-Tsim-Mong, where much of the unique culture of Hong Kong belongs. Since there are few opportunities to go around Hong Kong, the social life here consists mainly of shouting contests around the campus. I’m writing this at 1AM, and a group of around twenty students have just walked by several residential buildings, shouting slogans at the top of their lungs.

Also, if you’re looking for political activism, there is absolutely none here. The only time our students ever stood up together and complained to the school administration was when it forbade the students, justifiably, from wasting huge amounts of resources (literally tons of paper and plastic that are changed every two days) decorating a long walkway that connected the main building to several residential buildings.

How good are HK unis for humanities and social sciences, namely, political science, international relations, and economics? and how popular is it? I keep on getting the perception that it’s all heavily focused on business, management, and med…

Hey everyone… I’m entering University in the U.S. this year and I was wondering if its difficult to get into HKU MBBS after I graduate? is it similar or more difficult than getting into med schools in the U.S.? Do they care which undergrad you come from? Would I have to take an exam equivalent to the MCAT? haha sorry for so many questions… its hard to find insider info when you can only read a little chinese :P

^I am under the impression that HK Med schools only accept students using the British system. Namely the UK undergrad and HK undergrad. I have a friend (from HK) whose ambitions are HK Med and for that very reason is not applying to US schools. I’d like to know some solid info too…

hey i was wondering for the HKU chemistry program

i am taking the IB atm
and i have a predicted score of 31

HL Chemistry 6
HL Biology 5
HL Geography 5

SL Maths - 5
SL Chinese 6
SL English - 4

do you think i have a chance?
also i’m taking the SAT

i’ve done the SAT 2 chemistry
and got a score of 670

i’m quite confident with my ECs. can anybody help me out here?

do u think i have a chance?

hi every one,
i m from india. studying in grade 12
want to go to the hku or hkust…
have excellent academic records
giving my boards in march 2011
can someone tell me if its easy to get scholarships in hku or hkust for me

i desperately need them to make ends meet…

damn, I’m still waiting for my decision to be released…

dont worry dude ,you will get selected be optimistic…btw-which country do u belong to…i am an indian…damn crzay about hku or hkust

I’m in Year 12, taking IB in an International School in HK (South Island School). Aiming to enter HKU to study BBA (or if I can, BBA IBGM). Also interested in studying at HKCU or HKUST, but I’m not sure what these requirements are. All I know is that they call for a 4 at any A1 English. What about the overall score?

My current subjects are:

Chemistry, Business & Management and Chinese B at Higher Level.
Biology, English A1 and Maths at Standard Level.

No predicted scores yet.

Scholarships for HKU and HKUST are not easy to come by. Most students in Hong Kong don’t get to go to university, and there’s significant domestic opposition to the acceptance of foreign students, especially with scholarships.

Hello!

My name is Vania and I’m an American citizen considering to apply to HKUST for global business. My SAT score is 2070 & I have three 5’s & one 4 for my AP Exams. I was wondering if my chances of getting into the BBA program for global business are slim, and if scholarships are offered. Also, are there very few American citizens studying in HKUST? I am chinese but I speak mostly mandarin even though I am part cantonese, so would the social life still be rather lonely such as I have read for most of the international students? Thanks for the help!

thanks dude.
will work hard to get a scholarship.i guess if i truly deserve it the ppl over there will award me one.
around a 100k will suffice.
thanks anyways

for the first part i dont have any answer.but as for the social life ,i think you can have a great time over there as you are a bit versed with chinese and cantonese. see,i am an indian ,know only english, still maintained a gr8 social life in hk,so no worries.ppl in hku and hkust are very well versed in english and there is no worry.

Haha, well that’s great to know!(: I keep imagining myself hella lonely though, but I’ll definitely apply to both schools. Thanks!

HI VANILALIU, may i know about you…where are you from? and what are your career aspirations…etc etc…nice to remain in touch
