@ vania
went on very well
general stuff.
asked me how many hours you study
i told them 7-8
they replied pls reduce,u also need to play and get involved in co-curriculars
lol
i told them that i am a national level chess player.
then they asked me which course
i told them civil or industrial
then they told me that my essay was very good and they dont require any english certificate proof as they could guage english levels from essay itself.
thay then signed off by saying that they will give me a formal letter by jan but assured me of full scholarship including living expenses.
bye bye.
see you in hk
.

wonderful interview.
just get relaxed.
and would love to see my online friend in hkust
so plz do come if u get an acceptable offer.
By the way what is your real name?

did they ask anything about accomodation, i.e. which Hall u prefer? single/shared room?

just fyi, I heard from a friend that if u said that u ‘sleepwalk’ then your chances of getting a single room are high (thats if u want a single room, im not implying that shared room is bad).

are u guys all going to go to HKUST in 2011??

@ damonkey
no,they dint ask me about room as it is too early now.they will get back to me after say 2 months.

i am one of the few chosen ones from my country’s govt. to have a seminar.
hey, will you help me out with it?
haha
just jokin
i will be there for a month.
lets see,coz the last week will be sort of only sight seeing,so in a weekend if u mite be free we may meet and discuss a bit more about hkust.

Omg, caltech is in southern california
I wish I could come visit but that would be an 8 hour drive
and I have no breaks from school until November D:

I hope you have an amazing time here though,
the weather down there is great ;D

ey guys i got a question. I got some 3s on my APs but I was wondering if I shud write them down or not…I mean its better than nothin right? Or not, becuz they might think imma ■■■■■■ for gettin so many 3s?

how did they contact you when you were accepted? OH & did your referree encounter any difficulties when he was submitting your recommendation letter online for HKUST? Mine says that he can’t send it in for some reason & now I’m super worried !
Sighhh, I herad that HKU usually waits for your AP scores in 12th grade to come out, so does that mean I’ll have to wait until July? TT~TT

ey masabulele do u know if hku and hkust allows for people to like apply but then send in additional, updated information? like if i apply now can i send in like my new sat test that i take in october? Also do you think takin 3 SAT II subject tests will help make up a little for my lower AP score?

shud I also turn in my IB scores along with my ap and sat scores? they’re both 5s

Btw does anyone know like which major is easier within the business, economic, finance, and law majors and what the average sat, ap, and school grades for acceptance is?

WOW. Im new to CC and I have absolutely no business being here…
But I didnt know so many intl students would be interested in HK unis!
I study in HKU IBGM (applied as a local student), so maybe Im able to answer some of ur queries.

hey!(:
is it true that hku is going to wait for my 12th grade ap scores until they let meknow whether or not i’ve been accepted or not? there’s no way I can wait until july :(

@vania
they do give conditional offers. if you apply early they may be able to tell u their decision around march. That said, they don’t really have standardised procedures for processing non-jupas applications. One girl i know got accepted in late august, so she missed all the orientation activities.

Is it easy to find a job in the US if I graduated from HKU or CUHK with an engineering degree? And btw,how good is Polytechnic?
Thanks for reply!

I don’t know too much about the US job market, but HKU and CUHK aren’t really well known worldwide, and they don’t have good engineering programmes. Is there any reason why you don’t want to go to a US university instead? Poly is tier 2 among hk unis, so students with good grades don’t usually consider it.

They are too expensive, and the college that I am going to probably doesn’t worth the cost, for example,if I was going to U of Wyoming which is ranked 153th in the nation and it costs 20K/yr,I’d rather go to a school in Hong Kong.

FWIW, I’ve visited HKUST several times, and have been quite impressed - I’ve encouraged two of my children to apply from the US. It really is a uniquely cosmopolitan campus, far more so than any US campus I’ve been on.
