Hi!
I’m new to this forum =)
I am a second year IB Diploma candidate at an international school in Rome (Italy), I want to apply to HKU for the BBA program…is there anyone who already got accepted? What offers to they make?

Hi i want to apply to HKU for the BDS (dentistry) programme… what are their offers for IB students? :D

hi everyone,

I’m very interested in the Telecommunications program at HKUST and i would like to know if anyone has any recommendation about the application process. I read from the threat that there is an interview, does this apply to master programs? Also, are you required to take the GRE or GMAT?. I got my bachelors in the US but i was born in Peru. I got decent grades, work experience, extracurricular activities and good references. What else could i submit to standout in the selection process? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

thank you

Hey guys, just a quick question, please!
Does HKUST have “early decision?”
So if the school admit me, then I must go to the school?
I’m quite confused now, how about HKU? I know that both HKU and HKUST have rolling admission!

based on your 10th percentage you will be selected.
You are in science stream na? i am currently in 12th cbse but already got admission due to exceptional performance in olympiad at the international level.

cheers

Hi guys!

I’m a Dutch student and I’m trying to apply to HKU, CUHK, Polyu, HKUST and some others.

I’m currently in my last year of my VWO (sufficient according to the university’s websites) And I expect to get 100+ on my TOEFL. My grades are so so 6.8/10 with exceptional grades for math and scientific subjects and so so for Dutch and German. My English is 7+/10 though.

I’m mostly interested in anything business or engineering.

Now my question is, do I have a shot at getting into any of these university’s? Will my Dutch nationality help (good education standards)?

I have been working for a furniture company which imports furniture from Southern China to Holland mainly as Quality Control, I have been to China for business several times. Will this help in my application? I can’t speak any Mandarin or Cantonese though xD.

And another question, I will not get my diploma untill end of may 2011, will the university’s be satisfied if I can only supply predicted results untill than?

Thanks in advance,

Casper Quint

Been almost 1.5 years since I got my admission into HKU, just came across here and will try to give some help to those who need it before my exams…

EngStu01: Also if there are any students going to either HKU or HKUST, please tell me of what kinda financial aid HKU and UST offer.

A: There tends to be one-off scholarships for HKUST, but none or rare in HKU, naturally because HKUST tries to hand out scholarships to attract diversity. You will also have to check for your age, I think as long as your are below 25 you are eligible for undergraduate admissions.

Darthroni: Canadian System admission grades-
A: It REALLY depends on what sort of program you want to get into

yourfriend: hey guys…i hve applied to hku and ust…i hve gt 92% in std 10 cbse and a 1710 in sat-I…wtr the chances of gettng in any of the two?? And % of Indian students

A: Again, it depends on which programs you are applying to. HKUST is more lenient in terms of admission grade, but I would say 1710 is marginal for many programs… HKU tries to aim each intake @20% Internationals, as long as you are academically qualified, they will take you in - not because of your race.

97836: I am a second year IB Diploma candidate at an international school in Rome (Italy), I want to apply to HKU for the BBA program…is there anyone who already got accepted? What offers to they make?

A:The entry requirements for various BBA programs vary in HKU, the most selective two programs would be BBA(IBGM) and BBA(Law). For your reference, they admit from the top 5% of students from the local pool.

90210: Hi i want to apply to HKU for the BDS (dentistry) programme… what are their offers for IB students?

Expect 40 as a conditional offer.

michellepack: Does HKUST have “early decision?”

I’m quite confused now, how about HKU? I know that both HKU and HKUST have rolling admission!

A:Its not really rolling admissions, and HKUST does not have early decision. You will be applying through the Nonjupas scheme if you hold international qualifications and you will probably be contacted from Feb throughout May depending on how they schedule their admissions for the particular intake year.

@Casper: I’m a Dutch student and I’m trying to apply to HKU, CUHK, Polyu, HKUST and some others.

A: In terms of selectivity: HKU> CUHK > HKUST > POLYU for local admissions, for international it roughly holds true too. I am unfamiliar with the dutch academic system, but it REALLY depends on which specific programs you are applying to.

You may submit predicted scores in which you may be given conditional offers.

Hope this helps.

Hi all, I’m an international IB student applying to HKU for 2011 entry. I was just wondering whether anyone would be able to give me some advice on the Personal Statement. Should it be like the UCAS PS, or more like US college essays? Are extracurriculars to be listed in the statement itself or attached as a separate document?

Also, while I have a decent (43 out of 45) IB predicted, I was wondering whether or not it would be advisable for me to send in my SAT 1 scores as well to enhance my application, which are ok though not brilliant (2000 out of 2400).

Thanks :)

(Forgot to add - I have strong IGCSEs as well. Just trying to decide whether sending in SAT is a good idea)

Hi, I’m an international student from the Philippines with just 10 years of schooling under her belt. I’m thinking of applying to HKU and HKUST for BBa.

My SAT I composite is 2020 [690/690/640]
Subject tests are 760 and 750 [Bio-M and Math 2]
Average grades at around 95% for senior year
(93-95% for the past years)
I am the managing editor on the school paper (second to the chief) and the literary editor on the yearbook
Also worked as a summer intern for a local newspaper.
Fluent in English and Tagalog.

Assuming I have a pretty decent essay, what are my chances? :)

Oh, and I am also in a quandary-- I am terrible at timed essays (and at that time I didn’t know you could fabricate information freely) so I got a 6/12 on my SAT essay. That means I can’t fulfill UST’s English requirement. On the site, it says ‘Other evidence of English proficiency may be considered on individual basis.’-- has anybody fulfilled this requirement through such evidence? I am hoping I don’t have to take the Toefl. groan >_<

I want to either get into computer science or the dual degree at Hkust

@akis93: Closer to the UK Style definitely. Motivation to apply to HKU, HK, the program in particular, and your extra curricular, keep it all in a good balance. Send in your SAT too if you wish, but 43 predicted is pretty solid, again it depends on which program you’re trying to get in, but I’d say pretty safe for most, HKU gives out conditional offers

@Sonata: If you can’t convince them, you will need to do TOEFL. I’d say you have a relatively good chance in general, again depends on the program you are applying to. - There are tons of BBA, if you refer to the top programs BBA Global Business in UST and BBA IBGM in HKU, you could be marginal, but I’d say they’ll take you since you are from PH.

Ah, thanks for your response-- in that case I’ll just redo my SAT and hope I kill two birds with one stone.

Heyy, I just got an email from HKUST after sending in my app for almost 2 months now. I don’t think it’s an acceptance offer, but it’s just requiring I submit my travel documents to them by Friday. Does anyone know if I’m still under consideration then? There seems to be a .p7s attachment that I can’t seem to open no matter what program I use.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Hey vania! Woot woot!! I got a letter too! Not clue what it means. But I think the best we can do is to scan our passports and send it in:-)
