Yea my sister ended up in CUHK to read law. What other courses have you applied to at CUHK, apart from their BBA?

Btw, I have seen their 2020 campus master plan and I gotta say that the new upcoming colleges/buildings in CUHK have very beautifully architecture, not to say their current campus is already very scenic. HKU’s new centennial campus is also stunning as well. As for UST, their new Lee Shau Kee campus will have some very beautifully designed buildings too, albeit at a smaller scale. Not too sure if that’s due to their smaller endowment.

I am almost done with the applications for HKU and UST, but I haven’t chosen the majors yet. The thing is, I really like math and science stuff (and good -not excellent- at them), but don’t want to make myself suffer amongst super smart Chinese kids whose intense nerd energy will rape my soul. Plus, I have always been interested in Business and Management, so I haven’t quite made up my mind between engineering-science-ish majors and Biz.

My IB score is 37 (Korean A1 SL, English A1 SL, Math HL, Bio HL, Chem HL, Econ SL) and I’ve got SAT 1 & 2: 2330 for a single sitting (730, 800, 800), and 800 for math 2C and 700 for Bio M.

Will these stats make me get into BBA (Account.&Fin), IBGM, or Engineering in HKU? and as for UST, Global Biz, Molecular Biomedical Science, or chemical and environmental engi?

Although my SAT2 Bio isn’t so great, I’ve got a 7 for IB Bio. But then, I don’t have much Biz-related ECs maybe except that I’ve got a 7 for IB Econ… So I’m confused cuz I did only recently find out that I am not so committed to the field of science and engineering as much as I had thought, and became sooo immersed in materialistic manner of life and suddenly found sparks of interest in Biz.

Does anybody know how long for HKU or UHKST to have the SAT scores from college board?
I just placed a request to college board to send out my SAT scores, they will send it by “regular air mail” (althought I paid extra US$29 for Rush Delivery) , we can’t track the mail and college board doesn’t know how long HK colleges will have the mail.

Now, I’m kind of nervous about too late for the deadline.

And, do we need to send the AP score to HK & UHKST? Thru college board or they will accept the AP scores on my official high school transcript?

@Rag1992: Approximately 1 to 1 - Dorm life varies a lot depending on who’s on your floor and your roommate - so I can’t say for sure in UST’s case. But in HKU, you do have to participate substantially more.

@joecheung: It is true that by local standards, HKU > CUHK > UST, but internationally, HKU > UST > CUHK

@Mangoaddict: Your SAT scores are amazing, but you will be looked upon on your IB scores primarily since thats your main secondary education. With your SAT scores you should safely make into all of the programs, but your IB scores would not make the cut for HKU’s IBGM, and just a bit off for UST’s Global Business. UST’s admission tend to be a little more lenient though so they might just take you in.* It also depends if the adcom from both universities choose to take your SAT results as an alternative evaluation of your academic potential.

@march10 - AP scores are required from the collegeboard.

@Darth - Expect it to be the most competitive to get in, in the whole university

@Kazaki - To be honest, I think 2-3 is really an understatement… I sleep at 2-3 on regular school days… lol and this is my evidence for trying to get a break at 7am on a saturday morning :D

My SAT scores took about two weeks to get there via the cheapest option. Don’t worry though, the deadline is for your application, not the supporting docs. If your application is submitted already then you’re fine.

Hi! I’m a student studying in an international school in beijing.
I’ve applied to HKU+HKUST late nov for econ+finance program.
I am predicted 44 (IB diploma)… with a relatively low SAT 1 score of 2130.

Do you think I should send my SAT scores despite it being less competitive than my IB scores? I already told them my SAT score through online application, but I just didn’t officially send the scores yet.
Also, I am planning to take SATs in Jan, and hopefully get a better score on it.
So, should i not send my scores for now, and wait until Feb to send my newest scores?

Another thing is that, loads of students from my school applied to HKU.
We have roughly 60 senior students and around 12 students have applied. Of course, for different courses…and some are HongKong citizens…
Does this matter? Do they have a limit on how many students to admit from each school or are they only looking at individual students and their performance in school.

@Katolalachoi you should send in your SAT 1 scores, just inform them that you would be takeing the exam once again. If you haven’t still registered for January SAT I I would personaly suggest you take SAT II instead as your scores are already acceptable and SAT II will give you more of an edge. About the applicants from your school, I personally doubt that it would matter much as they will select the competative ones over the others. Also 12 is not that big of a number to worry about specially if they are applying for different courses.

@Ragnarok1992 & @TheGrand
Thanks for your replies.
I have already registered for Jan SAT1 and I don’t think I will be prepared to take any SAT 2s… since I’ve got to prepare for my mock exams in january.
Where are both of you applying to? For what courses?
Do you know anything about scholarship essays for HKU? They have a really vague essay question…
:)

@katalalachoi I am applying to HKUST for biology courses. Well the HKU question seems a lot like a prompt for a personal statement. So I think you should try writing it in a similar manner. Explaining your passion and a few of your experience that go with it should be more than enough.

I’m a Dutch student trying to get in a HK university.

I have applied for HKUST, HKU, Polyu, Cityu and CUHK.

My average is 7.1/10 (Dutch system), for your conveniance I translated my grade into anAmerican letter grade which would be about an A- (3.6/3.7 GPA). And I recently got my TOEFL back which is 108, would this be sufficient for any of these universities? The programmes I applied to were mainly Engineering and Business.

@Scholarship in HKU: If I’m not wrong, nothing extra needs to be written for the scholarship application - I could be wrong though. Scholarships for overseas students are less popular in HKU than in UST

@Casper: If it really equates to 3.6/3.7GPA - since what the adcoms do is translate the Dutch directly to their admission standards instead of equating to an American GPA - you should make the cut for the Engineering programs. Do have in mind that City, Poly and CUHK’s composition of international students are substantially smaller than UST and HKU (it could be changing, nonetheless, and some of their campuses are pretty too haha) -

For business - if you are talking about Global Business/IBGM - I’m not too sure about that, but typically you would be expected to be in the top 5% from the local pool. You might get a little edge as you are Dutch too. Your TOEFL score is sufficient.

Omgg, I just got an interview request by HKU for January 3rd regarding my application for the IBGM program. I’m panicking a little bit right now, but does anyone know what questions they’ll be asking me and what I should prepare for? ANY HELP WOULD BE SO MUCH APPRECIATED THANK YOUUSSS.

Hey guys! I just have a quick question and I was wondering maybe some of you can help me out? So are we suppose to send a couple reference letters?
