For HKUST your teacher will fill out an online referee form after you submit their email on the application. For HKU they have a teacher rec form for you to print and give to your teacher to fill out. You email those directly to the university with all your other supporting documents. That’s what I did at least :D

@Vanilialiu - Why HKU/HK/demonstrated interest in the program - read the IBGM website + course structure and understand how it is different and let them know/ what do you expect from program and how can you contribute/ if you are an international - how well will you adapt to life independently - its pretty easy if its not a face-to-face interview. Act interested, they might ask you if you applied to other programs or universities. A general knowledge of whats happening in the world (politics, economics, business) would be helpful too.

Best of luck and I hope I’ll see you next year.

@Scholarship in HKU: I think you have to submit a scholarship application form. If not, they won’t have asked you done so in their website. I have done a bit of research in both UST and HKU’s websites and I learned that HKU has more scholarship variety…

Thank youuss
I sent my application hella early like sometime in September since everyone said both HKU&HKUST are on rolling basis for apps. Where are you from, btw?

Hey guys,
I’m stuck again with the scholarship application for HKU.
They ask you to write about non academic achievements/qualifications
So what are they asking for exactly? My leadership roles at school? MUN? Student Council?

Confused…

@Vanialiu
I’m from korea,…living in beijing now.
hbu?

I have recently realized that the supporting documents that I posted to HKU in November did not include an enclosure form. (they seem to require it as the cover page)
However, I did have my name, application number and 1st choice curriculum written on the corner of every page that I posted to HKU.

Do you think this would be problematic? Do you think they might ask me to re-send my documents WITH the enclosure form?
I am in a massive panic right now…
Help!

I hope you didn’t apply to HKUST. Being a UST student is tough, the workload here and competition is considered much much tougher than HKU. In UST, you can just forget about having fun. There is no slack time if you want to keep up with averages.

I seriously advice those people whom wants to get into UST to reconsider their options. If you really intend to stay in sch everyday and study, enjoy below average food, then Ust will be really suitable for you especially for engineering students. Otherwise, reconsider ur options for other University. There is no time for engineering students to study, due to workload. That is causing a great deal of problem for international students. Think about it, if joining HKU can give you more time to have fun and study, you could score better than you would in HKUST. Credits are accumulative, don’t risk it.

@verystressed
OMG! thank you for your reply!
You totally made my day, i was worried all day about it.
because if they ask me to send the documents all over again, i won’t be able to make the deadline since my school is already on holidays…

so you didn’t have an enclosure form as the cover page right…?
just to confirm…!

@Eddd: How would you know if competition in UST is tougher than HKU? - those are just people’s perception given that there are less subject choices in UST - can’t accurately generalise for everyone.

Can’t speak for everyone but competition from business majors in HKU are very intense. AND I think its different from how to defined it - that people have fun in HKU too - you can always have fun when you are studying with your mates/committees etc. - And it comes with a choice, people who choose to study (in general) simply get less stellar grades.

Or maybe because UST is simply less selective for International Students than HKU in general admission grades and hence its reflected in the intl bunch’s ability to handle the workload.

I would avoid generalisations in any cases.

I have made a huge mistake-i mistakenly chose mbbs as my 3rd choice in hku’s application although i want to do engineering.my first two choices are engineering…plz help…Also I didnot send predicted grades. My personal statement is all about Electrical Engineering but i didnot find E.E in the application options…

Hi, I am applying both
UST (global business, business, econ and finance) and
HKU (IBGM, business, econ and finance)

I have IB predicted 42

Korean A1 HL - 7
English A2 HL - 6
Economics HL - 7
History SL - 6
Biology SL - 7
Math SL - 7

However, I didn’t send in my SAT1 score because it is really bad… its around 2000…

is it okay if I only have IB score? many seem to have both IB+SAT1, and I am worried
if I will lose my competitiveness a lot…

And for the personal statement, I didnt write about my extracurricular (i sent in my resume instead) or my interest to the specific programs… instead, i basically wrote about my life in terms of the influences and transitions that build me up. (because I thought it is the “information which you feel will be of interest to the Admissions Tutors and will help them know you better”)

But after I sent in my application, I feel uneasy because I think what I wrote may be
considered irrelevant… is it okay if my personal statement is more of a “free essay” about
myself?

And lastly, is it okay if the personal statement is exactly same for both HKU and HKUST?

@dohyun - You should be fine for both cases - since ultimately your academic results are most important - essays are alright as long they are not a major disaster - you do not have to send in your SAT if you do not wish to. Just make sure your final grades are at least 40 and 38 for IBGM and GBUS respectively - for the conditional offer.

@cocomo - From what you have said, it seems like you have submitted bits and pieces? Its better if you contact the specific Faculty to ask what have they received - or just communicate with them. Engineering in HKU only declares major in their second year so writing your statement on EE is fine. The MBBS choice would not affect you, it is for HK students only. From what I know UST only give partial scholarship for the most part for good academic results, if you have STELLAR grades - it might be different.

but i believe some ppl on this very thread got full scholarships from HKUST?

So i believe from what i have read in the previous threads ,you’re in HKU.How much scholarship does hku offer at the most? Also Can I change my mbbs option to some engineering major?

Also ,are there many intl students at hku?

My grades for GCE olevel are 8 straight A’s and for AS level 4 straight A’s.Do i stand a chance? My sat score is 2120.I am awaiting my new sat score tomorow.

thank you for your replyy how long do you think the interview will last? & are the interviewers extremely fluent in english?

Ohh & I was wondering do you know anything about how HKU deals with AP credit? Like here if you score a 4/5 you get college credit for that course and then you won’t have to take it. How bout Hku?
