If doing business, HKUST beats all, why? Cos first of all, the HKUST uni system is pretty much based on an american type system, thus is a major factor into why its MBA program is top 10 in the world.

Thats not to say HKU is bad. All i can say is that on an overall basis it is better ranked, but subject-wise, in terms of business, hands down on HKUST

I just had my interview w/ HKU IBGM. It was good, but let’s say I definitely rambled on. How long does it take for them to reach a decision on whether or not I get rejected? Or accepted, if possible. Or conditional offer-ed.

Hi all,
I’m an Indian student and have applied to HKU and HKUST.
95% in 10th board when I exclude Hindi. (91% with hindi)
SAT I - 1900 (540W, 650CR, 710M)
SAT II - 630M2, 720Phy
Also, I have a few certificates (scholar badges, dramatics, football, chess), president of school.

What are my chances of getting in either of the two?

omg me too! I swear I saw the guy pause a few times cause he couldnt catch what I was saying -___- Plus my webcam froze on a very awkward pose so -.- Have you gotten any news from HKUST? I kinda want to apply to CUHK now too…

hey everyone! i am an international student doing the IB diploma programme and i was wondering how I should send my transcripts and predictions to HKUST. they say you can upload them on the application form itself, but our school does not let students know their predictions for each subject… so should i send them my transcripts separately?

also i have a 41 predicted in the IB and 2050 SAT with 730 math 2 and 750 chemistry. do i stand a good chance of getting in? does HKUST offer admission solely on IB predictions and SAT scores?

Darn. I freak out so easily! I got an email from hkust asking for an updated transcript, but I submitted my current one in October? Did anyone else get that email?

And WHAT does that mean?! Helpp!!
Congrats on the interviews guys! I’m sure you guys represented this forum extremely well:-)

@hmmidk
I only know the dorms in HKU. If you want to get into the ones you have chosen you better start applying soon. I didn’t get into any of my chosen ones 'cos i applied at the last minute. Generally Starr Hall, Tsuen Chi Sun and Lee Shau Kee are pretty chill.

@verystressed
They’re usually after March. Some of my friends got theirs in late May. I heard that IBGM only gives out 20 spots a year so how long could that take…But then again, they might need some time to sift through the predictably huge number of applications.

@Vanialiu-- be happy yours only paused. my skype actually froze cause the earphone had some problems, so there was 10 minutes of pure confusions. Like “What do I do???” freak out. I wasted 5-10 minutes, and that was so stupid cause the only reason I plugged in the earphone was cause I couldn’t hear him. SO he typed out the questions instead. IF ONLY I ASKED HIM TO DO THAT EARLIER. @Lisacom- thanks. Let’s only hope…In the end, when I asked him questions about HKU, I insulted HK, as in “So…HK is kinda small…I mean, relatively medium-sized, yeah, kinda small…so what do students do on the weekend?” He actually chuckled and said “HK is small, but don’t worry, there are PLENTY things to do on the weekends.” -sigh- @rainbowrainbow- I wish they would be faster! He said “a couple of weeks,” so…I hope I get accepted, cause if I don’t, then I will be sad. Very sad.

@Vanialiu-- also, there’s definitely time to apply to CUHK, cause regular decision ends in Feb (15th?). Which other schools are you appying to besides HK ones? Cause you’re from CA, and there are a huge abundance of excellent schools there.

@Lisacom
Thankss! &Sorry I haven’t heard anything from HKUST since forever :(

@Verystressed
I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you Did your interview still last as long or did they cut it short ? D: I reallly hope they don’t want till May… & I was actually hoping for February, darn -.- I applied to 5 UC’s, but that’s about it haha. I guess I’ll start on my CUHK app tonight (=

@Applicant0007, sorry don’t know much about engineering, only business & social sciences. But since according to teachers & hk classmates, business is the hardest. So if 2000 is the average for business, then engineering should be around the same or slightly lower. But HKU does make exceptions, so if everything else is good then you have a good chance. eg. last year from my school 2 students w/ 1900-2000 SAT scores got into the faculty of business, cause they had lots of experience & good interview to make up for it. Since your grades are good & you have good ECs your chances shouldn’t be significantly damaged by it.
HKUSt, I don’t know too much, but should be similar, cause their business is also the most competitive. Just play out your strengths and emphasize those (but not too much) in your personal statement. :)

I just got an email from HKUST from the admissions representative, and I don’t understand why they sent it.

“Upon initial processing, I would like to let you know your application is
complete for the time being. In the meantime, if you have any questions
regarding your application,please do not hesitate
to contact me.”

Has anyone gotten this? Does it mean I’m rejected or not…?

@vania
I think hkust is starting to look at the applications:-) I’m pretty sure you are not rejected and good luck! My email was really confusing as well:-(

Hey vania, do you mind me asking when you send your transcripts in? I did in October and I have no idea why they would want another one:-( thanks heaps!!
