HKU or HKUST

Hi all,

Does anyone know how hard it is to receive a direct offer (unconditional) from HKU? cus I’ve read that some applicants got in without any conditions, and I wonder if the faculty of dentistry would give out direct offers?

Thanksss!!

@Archit1993, applied 20 days back to both HKU and HKUST, when can I expect to receive any sort of decission from them?

@Applicant0007:how much did u get in ur boards?? I applied last yr around 26dec… i gt mah telephone interview around last week of jan and my conditional letter on 12th feb… so u can expect to get an telephone interview soon… HKU replies very late…

hey guys, I applied for BBA in HKU and Global Business in UST, and I’m wondering when I will be asked for phone interviews. I submitted the online applications around 20th of December, but technically speaking, all the supporting documents were sent around early Jan. I can pretty much sense that Global Business is going to require a phone session, considering its rigor, etc. However, I haven’t got any e-mail regarding the interview. I am becoming soooo desperate. I heard that certain departments do not call for interviews, but does it apply to my BBA in HKU, as well? Because - obviously- HKU did not ask for an interview, either.

@katola…something: is that true? my scores do not fluctuate so much (by subject basis they do, but the total score seems to increase) but I have taken SATs quite A LOT. I was planning to go to universities in Korea, which don’t really care how many times I took the test, so I took like… 6 times. well that puts me down. I wish 2330 shines through, though.

@MangoAddict

HKU demands single score setting and you don’t have to send all scores to HKU. I took SAT like 5or 4times,too.
And don’t worry about interviews. HKU and UST are slow. I think that is just basic characteristics of univs in hongkong. I heard some journalism applicant-korean-s received interview offer, but it is normal for BBA to receive interview late.

some kids even got accepted like in Aug. WTH

Hi people=)

applying for BBA in HKU and HKUST w/SAT 2200, 3APs each score 4, and 2SAT2s
Korean, and I have some friends worldwide applying for HKU UST CUHK
soooo worried about my admission. this yr’s competition’s getting REAL WILD. omg

if anyone wants to share news, plz contact me via MSN messanger or e-mail!

@archit1993 - 95% in 10th cbse when i exclude hindi, otherwise 91%
I have applied for engineering though.

did anyone who applied to CUHK before december 15th get offers yet? i applied for economics and I’m supposed to hear from them in january…
both UST and CUHK asked me to submit a transcript of my SAT scores so i just didn’t send them any -.- I do IB diploma, so that already meets one of the admission requirements right? I wonder if SAT grades will count alot…
i have some friends with same IB prediction and higher SAT grades than me… so i am starting to worry a bit.

@katolalachoi

I got the offer from CUHK for my first choice - computer science. Since CUHK is having the same case with HKU and UST, the admission is very competitive this year especially for the early consideration round. You should send the official transcript to them by CollegeBoard quickly! They will not further process your application if you didn’t completely submit all your supporting documents.

Further information will reply you in message. All the best for you!

@DavidLau
I applied to CUHK too and my app is “under consideration.” This sucks because I’m starting to doubt myself…Am I going to get accepted? Rejected? AHHH!
-crossing my fingers-
btw, could you tell us your stats?

Applicant0007: U will surely get in and if u maintain the same record u will get a full scholarship for ur entire course of study… I missed out the full scholarship by 1.2 % …So i was offered 50% scholarshp…my scholarship terms n conditions were:
80% in maths and 90% overall for full scholarship…
80% in maths and 85% overall for 50% scholarship for 1st yr…

6 of them applied from india last year as far as i know and all of them got the same terms and conditions…

Hope u Get in…!!

The online application status checking system is totally trivial. They don’t really quite update for it. The system still remains the same status even I got the official offer letter already. Don’t be fed up. Since it’s still around mid of Jan, you might hear the good news from they very soon :)

Unlike most of you are IB or A-Level applicants, I’m holding the Malaysia UEC which is equal to the A-Level standard in our system. I got 7As out of the total ten subjects. I do have SAT, IELTS as well, but I just submitted my SAT II result as my SAT I result was too bad for me to support my application. In addition, I do have Bronze Medal in Asian Science Camp, national top 1 result in Computing and IT subject and tons of involvement in sporting, astronomy research, etc. I think those might be the crucial points to spring me up.

From my point of view, CUHK very focuses on individual performance in interview. During the interview, I talked a lot about my excellent ability in computing and lots of stuffs regarding my self-study and research in IT field, it was really attractive to the professors from CSE Department and they on the spot confirmed my admission. Thus, keep in mind to show yourself out of the whole cloth during the interview. All the best! :)

UST is extremely slow, I’m still desperate of waiting for their outcome of admission. Hope my admission to CUHK will push a little bit for them :frowning:

Got anyone here received any news from UST already?

@Archit - What course did you apply for?

@DavidLau
I have no idea about the Malaysian system or British system, but those stats sound pretty amazing. And am I eliminated already cause I didn’t get any interview at all? (I haven’t even heard from them).
HKU, on the other hand, is much better at keeping me updated.

Applicant0007: I applied for global business, bachelors in eco n finance, BBA…

Its very competitive to get in global business…

Archit1993: So whats your honest opinion about my engineering chances in HKU and HKUST? I have SAT’s also. Around 1900 and SAT II, around 650 in M2 and 730 in phy.

I know 2 of them who got in HKUST last year for engineering…
Gettin Admission in Hku is more competitive than UST… So HKU might be a prob but considering ur marks i would say that u have full chance of gettin in both…

But HKU does not provide full scholarship…

@archit1993
Have sent you a private message. Please check.

@verystressed

I don’t think so. Like any other HK Schools, interview is not a ‘must’ to CUHK, some of the applicants did receive the offers without having the interview. Yes, unlike HKU, CUHK usually appears as extremely slient until you get informed for the interview or direct offer.

Stay Tuned. Good luck for you :)

Hi Archit,
I have applied to hku and have my interview soon can you tell me wt ques do they ask?
Also i have a 92% in std 10 in (2009) and i 1900 in SAT( do SAT scores matter that much in hku??)
I gt 90 in sci and 94 in math so should i apply for any scholarship now? i hve already comp the application…
Thanks…
