HKU or HKUST

<p>Did anyone receive CUHK or HKUST admission already and is an international student and applied ED?</p>

<p>Hi,</p>

<p>I was wondering if anyone here knew what the standards are for Australian students looking to enter HKUST’s GBus program and HKU’s IBGM program? </p>

<p>I received 95.75 for my score which is equivalent to around 36-37 IB, but Im not too sure if they would convert it like that.</p>

<p>I applied in December and I’ve already received an interview from HKUST and got an offer for their BBA program, however that was my third choice. I havent heard ANY replies from any other universities including Chinese University. </p>

<p>If anyone could share their experience in regards to the Australian curriculum, it’ll be great. Thanks heaps.</p>

<p>@Crabbie. Yea. Apparently they will mail me my HKUST Offer by the end of this month(From the professor who interviewed me a week ago).</p>

<p>@michaelui11: um, i would say 6 is a must in my opinion… it’s law after all. English should be the main subject that they’re looking at. Well guess you can get an interview with a 5 in english if your gcse english was good.</p>

<p>@rethmlai: don’t think they would convert it like that. i heard that they mark down all aussie, canadian grades quite significantly… haha again, i have 3 friends who got an interview with HKUST Gbus last week (weird i know, with all my classmates applying for med, law and global b HAHA) and the lowest was a predicted of 39. and HKU asks for 43 ib pts (and i’m sure about this). hope this helps!</p>

<p>@zhuangzi,
not necessarily,
my offer was not from “ienroll”
it came from an admission officer in HKU…
hm…</p>

<p>guyssssssssss,
HKUST interview for BBA.
What is it like? :D</p>

<p>@Katolalachoi. oh really? Who sent you it?</p>

<p>@90210x
Damn…ok…</p>

<p>thanks anyways</p>

<p>Hi,
I applied mid-december to HKU with IBGM as my first choice major…
but I still haven’t heard anything from them
I have been hearing that people who are applying to the same major I am applying have already received interview offers and some got even accepted.
Until when does HKU offer interview?
I thought they will give out admission result by February, but my app status still says “under consideration.” This is really stressing me out… :(</p>

<p>Hi I’m new here on CC
Does anyone know what kind of IB score you usually need for Quantitative Finance at CUHK, HKU and HKUST?</p>

<p>@Christoffer. Apparently One of my best friends who has a Full predicted (45 plus 3 bonus pts) was rejected from HKU QFinance… well… maybe there were other factors that played in this… But I know that HKU QFinance accepts the least amount of ppl a year (20ppl) so competition is fierce.</p>

<p>@zhuangzi. Thanks, even though my chances probably depreciated since I’ll probably get a score around 40.</p>

<p>will the HKU offers be earlier this year? since last year we can only check our applications in April and this year in Feb.</p>

<p>I found a good website with some updates on hong kong universities.</p>

<p>[Non-JUPAS</a> ?4???](<a href=“http://www.nonjupas.com/forum/index.php]Non-JUPAS”>http://www.nonjupas.com/forum/index.php)</p>

<p>I got accepted by IBGM (wow it took them so long to decide) and now I can go to HK, since my parents would only allow me to go if I got accepted.
So I’ll update everyone on my campus trip! (which will probably be 2/ 3 weeks from now). Fun.</p>

<p>HELP! They gave me this really *** offer because not only do I have to accept/ reject it in 2 weeks (which I understand), but I have to get 5’s on ALL FOUR AP’S, INCLUDING CHEMISTRY!!! I hate Chemistry, and on my predicted score I said 4. I really don’t understand what bearing does Chemistry have on my ability to be a successful business student!
GAH! It’s like, if I don’t do it then I might not get a better scholarship offer & what not later, but if I do then my deposit might get returned for not getting a 5.
:((((</p>

<p>hello everyone…finally could get back to the forum. work can be demanding sometimes.sigh.
** verystressed**
i feel your pain lol. i hate how they only gave 2 weeks to decide. i was waiting for mcgill to give me an answer (takes them ages and still hasn’t come out with decisions yet), while i already had an offer from UBC.so it was a stressful 2 weeks and i had no time to feel happy about getting accepted :expressionless:
but you got in to mcgill right? you must have really good grades :O</p>

<p>momo11
hello are you an international? i think from the last few pages people who applied in around december-ish still havent heard anything from HKU…it takes them quite some time especially now they have to process more applications. (i applied back in september and only got an interview december…)
as for the online status checking thing…dont think they update that as often…i have already gotten my offer last january and i am still “under consideration” LOL
so give it some time (:</p>

<p>@ Rissah
I know! I feel so rushed now…-sigh- It’s either I waste 10,000 HKD or a really good opportunity… and UBC has still not given me an offer. So now I’m desperately waiting for U of T, going “hurry up or I’ll seriously go to HKU!” Which isn’t bad, but there are many unappealing aspects (eg. internationals are outsiders, people are more shallow there, competitive, profs have heavy accents, you need Cantonese to blend in…) considering it’s an international city.
Did you accept the offer?
and haha, no… They’re good but the only reason I was accepted that early is because they had to contact our school due to a little misunderstanding. And I applied super early, in September. I know you’re get in for sure!</p>

<p>hi guys,
if i accept the offer from HKU, does that mean i can’t accept any offers from other univs?</p>

<p>@katalachoi- No. You can pay the deposit for another school. I’m doing this too just in case i don’t reach my conditional offer/ change my mind.</p>
