hey everyone, i applied to HKUST for BSc chemical & bioprocess engineering in January, and obviously i haven’t heard from them regarding to the admission decision, though UST admission offer had emailed me before, saying my application profile was complete. May i know most likely when will i hear from them? Also, i applied to HK Polytechnic University for BSc chemical technology. Got conditional offer (AAA in A Level) and already accepted the offer. Are you all familiar with HK PolyU? Need some advice :)

@cayne92: thx a lot!!

@doublehotchoco: I completed my full application around end of jan & got notified of an interview in Feb. My interview will be on April. I wonder why there is so much time in between. Hope its not a bad sign
By the way, my interview is from the chem n Biomolecular engineering dept.

Does anyone know whether the grades for conditional offer to hkust are usually higher than the academic requirements to get into that course in hkust or?

Does this also mean that if a person meets the grades for conditional offer given by hkust to another person, he/she will have met the academic requirements to enter that course in hkust?

HKU is more well known for medicine and law, while UST is well the university of science and technology, so engineering is slightly better there.

HKU’s engineering offers are higher than UST’s engineering offers. So from this you can assume the students at HKU being of slightly higher standard than UST people (just saying, no offence). The course structure is pretty much the same but in terms of university ranking, when it comes to engineering UST should be better.

My dad teaches engineering at HKU and my brother studies engineering at UST so pm me if you need any more info! =D

Hello everyone. What are the chances of applicants receiving an offer after they have been placed on a waiting list?

So is HKU not a good choice for social sciences?

Hey guys, so I just chose over HKUST over HKU for BSc Economics and Finance… I hope I did the right choice…

HKU didnt give me any conditions for the offer and an entrance scholarship of HKD180000.
HKUST on the other hand needs me to get AAB in A levels (for admission) and a further AAAA for a full scholarship.

Do you guys think I made the right call?

what?? I asked HKUST too for scholarship and they said I have no way of getting scholarship until I get into the uni… they said it will be decided upon my performances… this is now fair… lol. are you sure? oh, are you an international student or HK PR?

did anyone get accepted into the journalism program of HKU?

For international students, if you’re accepted (to HKU, HKUST, or CUHK) will you be notified by an email or do you have to manually check by yourself?

@kevobest: mind telling us what are yr grades & what course u applied to? U mean u r already accepted by hkust?

I think its because u r not qualified for the entrance scholarship. Thus, u can only get those type of scholarships which will require u to do well after u have entered hkust.

@hievery1 yes, i got a conditional offer from HKUST. I did CIE A-level, but I havent finished the course. Im taking the A2 paper in May/June. I took my AS level last year, and got 4As. I cant specifiy the course coz there are some ppl on this site who know me. But I applied to engineering course. I think they will give scholarship depending on my A2 results…

I have a question: how does HKU decide on the amount of scholarship money? Is it based solely on extracurricular activities? Cause my friend who got in also has fewer ECs/ leadership positions/ job experience than I but she got quadruple the amount I did. On her scholarship thing it said 10,000 people applied. Mine said 8,000 people did. So is there a difference between faculty?

Hey guys,
I just got called for an interview by HKU engineering. Can anyone give me some tips and some faq’s that are asked.
Thanks

hi guys, do you know what are some of the easiest majors to get in HKU/CUHK/UST? i know that finance is the hardest lol

After interview (both HKU and UST), how long I have to wait for the decision ?

@kevobest,
I am international. I haven’t got my results yet for A levels too, its dependent on my final results (for the scholarship)
And yes, I am sure… the scholarship was attached along with my offer letter

@Engstu1 normally HKU asks general questions, very few course-specific questions. (that was for mine)
@march10 Im so worried as well… I got my HKU interview on March 3 and Im still waiting. Some people got reply after 5 weeks, some ppl got after 2 weeks. so i don really know…
@helpperman89 did you ask for scholarship when u applied? or they just gave you the scholarship letter together with the offer letter?

Guys, Im still waiting for the reply from HKU, but I got offer from HKUST.
HKUST asked me to apply for visa application, should I wait till HKU replies and then apply for visa?
Im international, don know what to do now.
HKUST asked me to reply within 2 weeks for visa app after I got the offer letter which already has been about 3 weeks. Is it okay if I delay a bit?

@kevobest
It’s been around 3+ weeks since I got my acceptance letter from HKUST, I haven’t applied for a visa yet. I’ve contacted admission people and they said it was okay to apply for a visa even after April.
(I did not specifically ask for a scholarship when I apply - I think in HKUST’s website says international applicants are automatically considered for scholarships, http://scholarship.ust.hk/info/index.html, its under C), University Entrance Scholarship for Non-local Students)

@helpperman89: Did HKUST send you an email notifying you about your acceptance or did you check the status page?
