HKU or HKUST

@crabbie1234
Both. They sent me an email saying something updated, then I logged in and checked my application status.

Anyone knows whether hkust awards students scholarships by their results when compared to the whole school or by their results when compared to the faculty they are enrolled in?

Hi guys,

I got acceptance from HKU for Mfin. But I am still doubting whether the Mfin program in HKU really helps me with my future career. Does it help me to get into Investment Banking upon my graduation ? how good is the Mfin program in HKU ?

Anyone has opinion about or experience Mfin program at HKU ?

Still waiting for the decision from HKUST Msc Econ. I hold an offer from MSc Financial Economics, Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Cheers

@vania: Ill keep it short since I’m still on vacation. You may not switch into bba law or bba ibgm within hku. And as I mentioned, Econ and finance is quite difficult due to the competitive students. You may be a little disadvantaged if you can’t cope with the academics since that will pull down your gpa slightly, nonetheless, rmb that gpa doesn’t matter beyond one’s first proper job. Good luck with the waitlist, several people did mail me regarding their waitlist for the program, I encourage you to show your
Continued interest in the program by mailing and calling them up, make your case clear and gve compelling reasons, gd luck

I think you should really clarify the substantial differences between Econ and fin and a regular bba degree. There is only a max of20% overlap. Do check syllabus guide of those programs carefully.

@TheGrand

Thanks, senior. & the wait goes on =)

guyz help!!!
I have accepted the HKU offer by emailing them the scanned offer letter sent to me , and i have also mailed them the printed scanned letter .

But I have not yet received the original offer letter they sent me through mail!!!

Should i mail them regarding this?

I’ve been hearing that the decisions for hong kong universities go on till august?! seriously?? i applied in mid dec and still no response :(

@Jy93

T.T dude, i feel your pain. Its slowly killing me…

@geezee
It doesn’t matter. Just chill. And a suggestion: don’t mail them about this cause the admissions people are super busy now. Just ask them if they’ve received your email and the one you send.

just quote the email from HKU

"You will be informed of the admission results by mail once the decision becomes available

Application results will be announced by the latest, end of August. "

hope it helps :)

IBGM accepts only 12 students globally, but how many applicants are there to this program on average? It doesn’t publish any statistics on this…

@Jy93
Yes they go on till end of august. no news is good news ^^
@very stressed
They take around 12-13 students globally, the whole program has 30 students and there are about 10000 non-local applicants to the IBGM program. hope this helps!

@minkey- 0.0 TEN THOUSAND? Really? That’s… a lot. I would be surprised if 1000 people applied, cause I didn’t think it was this popular. Wow. That’s a very small acceptance rate. Hope to see you there next year. :)

Hi, does anyone know when HKUST will give out their offers? I mean the latest…is it also August like HKU?

@verystressed
lol i was surprised myself, saw it on the acceptance letter. the acceptance rate is smaller than harvard’s. maybe they exaggerated.

ha yes if i make up my mind i ll see you next year :D

How do they expect us to still be waiting by august?! most other universities have a deadline for accepting offers by june at the latest…

@minkey- that would be 10000 applicants across the whole FBE but certainly, there are lots of applicants each year

Hello everyone!!!

I am one of the admissions officer appointed by HKU to answer your queries. I search for blogs like these to answer some of your questions. So let me start off by some that I read just now!

1: HKU IS STILL GETTING APPLICATIONS. About 10000 students from China apply to HKU every year and only 300 get accepted. Yesterday we completed the final interviews for the schools in China. So be patient you are not forgotten.

2: AUGUST IS NOT THE ADMISSIONS DEADLINE!! I think you are mistaken by the emails. August is the FINAL date for your acceptance. We WILL send you your results by APRIL. You will have to reply before May. And then we get to the waitlisted people who have to reply before August.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask them.

Also the thing about AUGUST is wrong because it the deadlines for hall placements and orientations are in late JUNE. So dont worry. Just be patient. We will get back to you in APRIL. If you are lucky you will get the good news!!

Goodluck from my side!!
