I am not very confident of taking a law degree actually cos of my english standard haha…maybe i will think about it after reading the business course first…Actually I am still considering HKU or UCLA in US. in a dilemma now…

Just curious, which country are you from? :)

I’m from Taiwan, but I’ve moved around the continents. Oh I see! I applied to both US colleges and HKU as well; and I also got into UCLA. For me a great factor in my decision was money issue, haha. HKU would save my family a lot of money. But of course not only that, I also like HKU Good luck in deciding! Both are great schools and they’re quite different from each other; the location alone differs by a lot.

hey everyone,
I am really worried, I was wandering if someone could tell me whats going on or if what is happening to me is normal. I applied to theMBBS and BSc Programmes at HKU from October and still ihavent gotten any replies. When i check it still says under consideration. Im really worried, if people are not answered this late does this mean i automatically didnt make it?

@lilrhule. I have applied to BDS and I don’t have any news yet too. I check my e-mails and application status everyday. I think you just need to wait.

dunno if any of you guys can help me out here, but i was looking through hku and hkusts’ terms dates and it seems that hkust almost doesnt have any summer/winter breaks. have i read the dates wrongly, it seems really strange that they dont give their students any major breaks

Hi i am also a MBBS non jupas applicant for HKU 2011 entry, have you’s heard any news yet and where are you’s from. If you’s don’t mind to share; what are your current grades/qualifications that you’s are holding and what subjects are you’s doing for A Level. Also, I’ve heard that they only accept those who can speak cantonese, is this right and can you’s speak the language? Also, did you post your scores of the subjects to the admissions dept as I can’t send mine off because I don’t have my overall scores :S Also, where have you’s also applied for medicine apart from HKU?

@ Anemon. thanks for replying really appreciate it @HKUNonJupasMed I actually dont speak cantonese only beginners Mandarin so i may not get into the MBBS programme either… at this point i would just like them to decide whether or not I am getting in so that they can move onto my second choice BSc as that seems more realistic for me at this point in time. What im trying to say is i think the decisions for MBBS is stalling my decisions for BSc.
And as for qualifications i did CAPE which is the Caribbean Equivalent to UK A Levels.
I got and A* in Bio, Chem and Communication Studies and a C in Physics. I also did CSEC the Caribbean Equivalent to GCE and got all A’s on the 8 subjects i did. I also did SAT…got 1880 on the reasoning test, 720 on the Biology Sub Test and 650 on Chem…My grades havent been so hot because of some personal probs lately but going to Hong Kong is actually a childhood dream for me and Im really hoping I get in. I got into University of Toronto with not so hot grades so if urs are better than me dont sweat it…im sure u’ll get into HKU :)

From what I have heard, your first choice holds on to your information until they do not want you. So your second and third choice may never see your marks and stuff. This is kind of a dilemma.

Hopefully…i dont speak cantonese though so i highly doubt i will be getting into the MBBS programme…more or less I’m just waiting to hear about BSc for either schools…@ jbauer 24 do u speak cantonese and did u apply to MBBS?

@lilrhule: You may contact the respective faculty office to check if an earlier decision can be made. You said you are accepted from University of Toronto so you can also tell them that you have received admissions from other universities and that you need to make a decision. Just give your reasons. I believe this will speed up the process.

thanks for replying and after reading what you have written, I think you have more of a chance in getting a interview/offer from HKU than I do. Where are you from and are you chinese? I bet with your grades you would get a offer and are you still doing your a levels now or are you on a gap year? because from what I have read, it seems that you have already done your a levels in which you got AAA*C which are great results!

also to those MBBS medicine applicants fro HKU, does anyone know are we meant to look on our email for news and notifications or the application status online? and i have only just recently found the online application status so is right that the page is very plain when you log on and that there is only 3 lines saying what your choices are and where your app is at? :S

@ HKU Non Jupas Med
Im from Jamaica, an island in the Caribbean. Im half afro-Jamaican and half chinese Jamaican, my moms grandparents migrated to Jamaica from Guangdong China. So technically i’m Half Chinese. Umm and in the case of A Levels, what happened is that because Jamaica was a colony we used to do English A Levels but when we became independent we created our own Exam basically it has some Caribbean Subjects u can do but we have to do Internal Assessments at our school which include labs, research stuff (not sure if this is done in England) and also the Exam is split into two Units which is taken over Two Years. the results i had earlier are for Unit 1 which i did last year so im doing Unit 2 now. and thanks for the encouragement…i hope u get in too all the best!

@ jbauer
Im in high school… just finished my last year of 6th form (upper)…i dont know if you have it in your country but we do in Jamaica, because we adapted the british system and still continue some aspects of their education system…

To MBBS Prospective Candidates: You almost must have HK Citizenship to get into the MBBS program. If I am not wrong in the past 3 years there are close to none admitted(I think one three years ago from the Mainland) for candidates without HK citizenship. The key reason being the MBBS program is heavily subsidised by the government to nurture doctors in HK for HKers. Other than that it is consistently one of the top three most selective programs in the history.

Things may have change though regarding admissions.
Good luck
