@Engstu01: Are you non jupas, international applicant? do u know anybody else who got an offer for BEngineering or Biomedical Engineering in HKU for 2011?
do u think i should email them about when they will be replying? please advise!

Hello guys just came on to say I got into HKUST BSc Biology program on a conditional offer, so everyoneout there worrying about HKUST keep hope alive and just wait a bit more!! My grades in school weren’t so hot last year but I got in @ Mangoaddict hold on im sure you’ll get in!! best of luck to all of you out there waiting i know how nerve racking it can be

I have learnt today that my application to dentistry (BDS) is unsuccessful from the online application status system :(

@ Anemon…
Dont worry man…im pretty sure my MBBS to HKU will be denied…did you apply to any other programs?

@HKUNonJUPASMed
two of my non-jupas friends got interviewed over the easter holidays. they are probably doing non-ju interviews right now. i mean they first do the EAS ones, then the Non-jupas ones, then finally jupas people. don’t think i know any international student who got in…?

“for IBGM they take 30 people. about 15 HK Local students, about 5 non-local HK students (HK people going to school overseas) and about 6 international students a year.”

@minkey

Wow,so local students applying with international qualification are disadvantaged against non-local?

@ minkey - yeah i did UK A levels.

@quietape- i know how you feel… when did you apply??

Hey guys, congrats to everyone who had already received their offers. I’m new here but I’ve been following quite attentively these few months =) I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on this about my college transcript.

I’ve already submitted my application in late March to HKUST, but I’ve totally forgotten about my wace subject courses transcript and the college’s semester transcript from last yr. And then I received an email from HKUST about my WACE transcript, so I immediately sent them over. They did not ask about the college sem transcript and I didn’t think of it until last week, should I upload the 2 semester transcript now?

i got nothing

@ flamingboy93: i applied on the last day of March. how about you?

Starting from a few years ago, students don’t have to choose the field of specialization when applying for BEng. U only get to choose after the 1st year.

@Creuzillion
Where did you get this from? “for IBGM they take 30 people. about 15 HK Local students, about 5 non-local HK students (HK people going to school overseas) and about 6 international students a year.”

I don’t think they differentiate people based on their nationality, but rather on the academic qualifications that you use to apply. I.e. locals/Mainlanders with intl qualifications will be competing against non-locals(internationals) with intl qualifications etc.

MBBS has always been super slow so keep your fingers crossed!

@quietape - i applied lyk vry late Feb, no replies yet tho…:(

@ flamingboy93: don’t get too worried about this. wish both of us best of luck! i’m so badly into UST.

@rainbowrainbow- Nationality plays an important role because they want to increase diversity. HKU isn’t naive- they need to increase the amount of international students, and there are different quotas for locals/ internationals.
Eg. None of my Korean classmates got accepted to IBGM even though they might be just as qualified. Weren’t even offered an interview.
Sometimes it’s nature over nurture.

@jbauer24
have you heard anything back from HKU for medicine yet? also if you don’t mind, would you like to share what qualifications you have got and what you’re predicted?

@minkey
has your friends heard back from HKU for their medicine interview and where are they from? also, did they apply through non jupas?

@lilrhule
hi again lol have you heard back from HKU yet about medicine? i see you have a conditional offer for a BSc at HKUST! congrats!!! what was the offer? Also, how do you know whether you’ve got a offer? do they email you directly or do they update your online application thing? And are you still waiting on your medicine decision at HKU? :S

to anyone else who have applied for medicine as their top choice:
have anyone got any updates on the application process? I have heard that if you’re rejected from your first choice, HKU will then pass your application to your second choice - is that right? or do all the course departments that you’ve applied to have all your applications and are considering you? :S

thanks everyone!! :D

@ HKUNonJupasMed
They sent me an email directly (HKUST) so i would suggest you check your email frequently if you applied there. I still havent heard anything from HKU Med, but honestly i dont think i will be getting in cuz i dont speak a lick of cantonese…lol. I would really love to go to HKU though, still waiting to see if I will get into the BSc programme there. Keeping my fingers crossed though and thanks for the congratulations waiting to hear about ur admissions offer too! :)

@lilrhule:
hi again! i didn’t apply to HKUST but i have for HKU for medicine but still have no reply. i doubt i would get a offer since i’m not bright but i hope HKU still considers me!! lol. also do you know how does HKU handle applications? I have heard that if you’re rejected from your first choice, HKU will then pass your application to your second choice - is that right? or do all the course departments that you’ve applied to have all your applications and are considering you? So assuming that i’m not rejected for medicine, i am still being considered by medicine and my other two choices haven’t even seen my application yet?

@HKUNonJupasMed

Someone from another forum said “They are rejecting the remaining 20% applicants at this stage .Fingercrossed.”

@ HKUNonJupasMed

I know just as much as you do man, i have no idea about what goes on in Hong Kong apart from what I call and ask about. TheGrand may know you can ask him

@verystressed

ouch, being korean myself what u just mentioned is not flattering at all… (since I haven’t heard anything from early january). But, considering that HKU would not reject all those korean for all three choices, will they accept those guys for the BBA program first as opposed to others who might have lower score yet chose the program as their first priority? I knew the nationality plays the BIGGEST role in the states, but naively thought that Hong Kong would be more generous. FAAAK. I really wished I had not sent my IB score at this stage.
