HKU or HKUST

I finally called the office, and the lady behind the line said im on a waiting list for all three choices. I am starting to hate the whole process… endless waiting until july… I honestly thought my scores weren’t THAT bad and that my essay was genuine and frank about my abilities and passion. I really wanted to go somewhere that offers good education with affordable price, and at this point I regret not going to Johns Hopkins which i was admitted to last year, only because such option is expensive. Korean unis are harder to get in for locals, and American unis don’t really like those who took gap years… and I am seriously wondering where my life is going to… sigh. this sucks. I wish i can just visit their office and beg.

@Mango

I know exactly how you feel right now, not knowing where you life would be heading…
And plus Johns Hopkins is sooo good :S
Did you only apply to UST and HKU?

@ Mango
Hang in there man, waiting list doesnt mean rejected. Ur scores are awesome dont fool urself, and if u got into JHU i think you have a high chance of getting in, if you were good enough for JHU i ithink you are good enough for HKU.

Good luck to those who are still waiting to hear back from Hong kong universities! Keep your hopes up :)

@MangoAddict
Don’t lose faith and believe in yourself! That’s amazing that you got into JHU, I got rejected haha. HKU better accept you!!

Hi, I have applied to HKUST for chemical engineering and had an inteview on the 18th April.

Has anyone gotten a reply from HKUST after their chemical engineering interview? and does anyone know when HKUST will give you a reply?

i also havent a thing from UST…everytime i email my advisor, i get “may/june” reply. does anyone here work at UST admission office? (ithink i saw a representative from HKU office, so i though UST must have one as well)
the wait is too excrusiating, i just hope the wait bears fruits…

@MangoAddict

Here are the admission stats
[Bachelor of Business Adminstration (International Business and Global Management), The University of Hong Kong](http://www.fbe.hku.hk/Programme/Undergraduate/ibgm/index.cfm?id=app)
Looks like they don’t take any international students???

info for HKU engineers out there

you do general engineering for 1 semester and get to choose in what to do in your SECOND semester of the FIRST year. fyi: theres an admission quota of 150 ppl to civil engineering, around 120 for other engineering courses. civil is definitely the most competitive, while other ones are quite easy to get into

@minkey: minkey im sorry but what u said doesn’t really make sense or atleast to me :S
u say they take in 150 for civil engineering, isn’t this number greater than 120 for the other engineering course, therefore, making it less competitive as they take in more applicants. also what have u applied for? and have u heard anything yet for BENG in HKU 2011?

@minkey

Non-JUPAS (EAS non-JUPAS included) includes international students. I’m sure IBGM takes international students, because my friend is international and he got accepted into the program in April. He has rejected the offer though, so good luck to whoever who’s still waiting for their decision!

thanks for the support guys. I wish HKU or HKUST changes its mind soon. I don’t have too many college options like most high school seniors in this forum, so the last post I made was more of an embarassing break-down… hahaha.

Do you guys think it’ll be helpful to send additional scores or qualifications that I earned recently and show constant interest in the program? or woud it be better to stop annoying the admission officers and wait for their final decision? I think I’m pretty insecure about my IB score and try to make up for it with a better SAT result, but deep in my heart I know it wouldn’t make much difference to the admission department :frowning: (if the SAT mattered that much why havent they accepted me in the first place ugh) and again, IB was my secondary education so there isn’t an excuse for it…

@minkey: i didn’t apply to IBGM, cuz i knew i wouldn’t make the cut with the IB score I hold. my first choice was BBA, and i don’t seem to find any statistics regarding the course on the website…

@ mango addict
I think you constantly sending in stuff would up your chances, would show you are interested in their schools and you are waiting patiently for their decisions. You know I was contemplating your situation and I realized maybe they have not answered you yet because they may be waiting to see what you grades after will be. Take me for instance, I applied to UBC, McGill and U of T in Canada. McGill immediately rejected me because they need math at an advanced level for their science programmes which I did not do. UBC took ages to reply to me, they said they wanted to see if i would take math, they were holding out for me. But if they hadnt wanted me they would have just rejected me outright. After all that now I just assumed I would not get into U of T, but they accepted me and I was floored.
So the lesson in all this is don’t give up hope dude. I got 1880 on SAT, what brought up my chances were the fact that I did well on my CAPE exams (Caribbean version of A Levels) If u got into JHU you clearly are a brilliant and capable student. I get those days when I dont feel so smart either but trust me most people on this forum think you are great. :slight_smile: Hang in there

@ Mango
Yes yes send more stuff in!! Anything!!
Lol nothing more I can say, so wish you good luck~好運~행운~Bonne chance~

@lilrhule
UBC is always soooo slow, like, it takes years for them to reply an email or answer a phone or even do anything! So I gave up on even applying…

@bing9112

lol… some ppl got their offers alredy. look through the forum

@MangoAddict, I believe your the guy that has gotten 2340/2400 for your SAT Reasoning test,right? It really baffles me why you are note accepted yet.

hi everyone, seems like there has been many many new ones joining this thread!

@lilrhule
hi there! you applied to UBC and Mcgill too?? i applied to both too. i still haven’t got anything back from Mcgill yet…IMO they take longer than UBC did :S UBC released my decisions really fast. even faster than HKU :S
anyway. you have a really interesting background! i hope you get into HKU :D

@lovelylovelylady
UBC replied to me really fast 0.0 much,much faster than HKU and i thought it was amazing. haha

@ everyone who will be going to HKU
applications for dorms are open! what did you guys choose as your 1st,2nd and 3rd choices? :smiley:
mine was

 1. starr hall (everyone seems to want to get into starr…i’m starting to feel my chances of getting in there are diminishing lol)
 2. lee shau kee hall
 3. suen chi sun hall

@ rissa
McGill is noooot the quickest unless they are telling u from early that you don’t meet their programm requirements. I am still waiting for HKU however!

@cruezillion

yeah i was baffled at first too, but i applied through the ib program
and my sat score was just subsidiary. so i understand their decision… i didnt quite achieve the excellent ib points they wanted.

@rissah

Lol maybe UBC likes internationals more than locals xD

@lovelylovelylady
I applied really early…like from september i sent my stuff out…and maybe they answer us earlier because we can’t exactly come to canada to sort our stuff out? lol A plane ticket from Jamaica to Canada is not cheap…
